Thanks so much for your comment, Mark. I've had a UA-cam channel for a while, but I've only recently started making videos a little more regularly. I've been considering doing a series where I talk about some of the different skills you might want to have, and situations to expect as a gigging or session keyboard player. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested, so I really appreciate hearing from you.
... very true video, I've benn playing left hand bass around 5 years, and I replaced several times the bassist in my band because he was sick... I like it... very good video (y)
This is so essential!!! Thanks for the video Michael.. I'm a beginner. Do you have any beginner lessons... I don't know how to start with left hand bass... Thanks in advance... may God Bless you...
Thanks, Geoffrey. When starting out, I'd suggest focusing on playing just the root note of whatever chord is being played at the time. Also trying to be as rhythmically solid as possible. Cooler variations and bass-lines will follow, but the meat and potatoes need to be in place first. Depending on what instruments you're playing with, and how big the group is, you may not need to worry about the right hand much at all, as bass and drums are the foundation of the groove.
Michael--I really like this video. I've been playing left-hand bass for over 25 years and can endorse everything you said. Thanks, Mark
