    Your channel is motivating me. I am post injury recovery and pushing slow. I am older now so the recovery needs to be slow. Watching you grow in strength and endurance had been inspiring. Thanks

    4694m elevation gain!? That's impressive. Well done. In Australia that heat is normal in summer, but those metres of climbing are hard to get here unless you do repeats. Awesome ride.

      I think it was just under 4000m to be fair. I know I don't know how you cope with the heat!! My English blood and skin just can't take it haha.

    Back in the day I did the Aravis (easy) with a couple of American's, and then we raced up the Colombiere and I won. Nowadays I'm a one col a day, helps you work rest and play kind of chap and I like to go hiking/swimming as well.

    Hi Katie, another excellent video! Understanding that you were given the place by a sponsor, do you know how much a place costs to enter l’Etape? I’m super keen to enter next year and just want to work out coatings etc for it.

    • @alpanian
      @alpanian 6 років тому +1

      120 EUR to enter. Be quick when signup starts. Usually a few days after official tour itinerary announcement! I did it. It was epic!

    • @KatieKookaburra

    All those people walking up the hill though. You would think in 2018 that people would get proper gearing to reflect their climbing ability.

    • @Ian-ho8lb
      @Ian-ho8lb 6 років тому +2

      Nicole, of course gearing is important and most people probably had the correct gearing. However, riding for 9hrs (my on bike time) in 30c is a tough proposition especially if you get your fuelling wrong. People were falling off and throwing up! '000's didn't even finish and the slowest official time was 13 1/4 hrs! Chapeau to everyone who completed the ride.

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  6 років тому +1

      It was unbelievably hot! I'm used to loooong days in the saddle and I had to stop in the shade for a while. Well done to everyone had a bash!

    • @lautoka63
      @lautoka63 6 років тому

      You do get used to the heat. Toulouse used to be about 34C many days in summer: the one day I hesitated on it was 38C & a small voice in my head was saying "That's hotter than my body; how do I get rid of heat?"

      A 32 big gear on the back and 34 on the front, then drop to 28 and stand on the pedals now and again did the job for me, but I was also surprised how many walked up

      @Platalol 6 років тому

      Yeah, I won a second place, but my friend couldn't come, so i rode it alone. I didn't got information/invitation about possibility to ride with other people from ATR/winner contest/you, i was feeling, if I don't paid the full pack (hotel/transfer...) I'm not part of the group. Well at least I could come and train in the mountain for my next transcontinental race, the brutal way.
