I followed your flannel tip directions and I am happy to say I got excellent results with my first quilt and now I am on to two more quilts. I am keeping that old flannel sheet forever. Thanks for expertise.
Thank you for the tips. This is my first time using spray basting.I have 17 top sheets. I was going for 20 top sheets. This weekend is my coworker birthday. I'm giving her a friendship quilt. Again thank for the tutorial.
Hi, Laura, love your style! Thanks for the tip to use flannel. I've done 8 quilt tops, dreading the sandwiching, as always did them on the floor. Now I'm in an RV but I have a 6' folding table. I'm going to try the spray basting, too. Maybe I'll get these tops done yet!
I just had to let you know, I shared your lovely tip about the wavy line for quilting, with one of my sewing groups, 'Madam Sew' . It went over very well and they allowed me to put a link to this video in my comments. I could not take credit for your suggestion. Please feel free to do more videos on any other programed stitches you come across that are good for quilting. This one was a real hit with myself and many of the others. Thanks again
I’m now a believer in spray basting, thank you Laura I tried it on my table one time, and got spray on the table. Ugh! Your flannel sheet is the answer..
Hi Laura, the flannel tip is brilliant, I will certainly give this method a go. All your videos are well worth watching. Could you tell me what the quilt is on the back wall and is there a video for it.
What a wonderful video. You do an amazing job with your tutorials. I do have one question. Where would I find clamps that can hold the flannel taut for two 6 ft banquet tables that are pushed together. My husband advices a "big box" store but your large clips look more suitable for fabric and such. Thanks again!
I have spray basted several quilts but your information was really helpful. I especially liked the tip of using a flannel sheet to lay the quilt out on. It really works- I will be using that method from now on. Thanks!
Great vid, thank you so much ... Did you spray the top & put it on the batting or did you spray the batting....I am thinking it would be better to spray the top rather than the batting as don't want all the spray going into the batting plus it would stick better...not sure..
Hi Laura, I'm loving all your videos. Do you use this same method with a large quilt if you have to do it alone? Most of the demos I've seen on spray basting are done on hands and knees. There is no way I can do that. This looks doable for a smaller quilt, but I'm not sure how I would manage with a large one. I'm very new to quilting and haven't even completed my first quilt yet. You are inspiring me though!
Glad to hear that, and thank you. As for doing a larger quilt, try this...fold it in half lengthwise and in half width-wise, you now can work on a quarter at a time.Hope that helps
Can I use this to quilt without a frame? I have quilted 2 without a frame and always basted them but it takes 2-3 days to do a thorough job. Will it hold up to being folded and unfolded. scrunched up alot while traveling and quilting? Possibly 4 months?
Yes, I have left it for a few months and when I went back to it is was fine. I have scrunched it up and it was fine. I do like to pin base the edges just for extra security, it helps it not roll back:)
I do like to wash my quilt in a cold delicate wash with a mild soap and a little liquid softener (one that you would use on children's clothing) and I dry it until it is almost dry and then lay it flat to finish drying :)
🌺🌸 Hi and thanks a lot for this very useful tutorial. I work very slowly and I’m wondering how long the spray can hold without basting pins. Also, do you use a special kind of needle, like a Teflon one so it does get gummed up?
Is it necessary to wash the quilt after spray basting, or can you use it right away after your done quilting and binding it? I really like your style of teaching. Thank you.
I spray to my sewing machine by error. I ordered a silicone spray and received that one that you are using. And I spray in my sewing machine thinking that are silicone spray and now there a sticky layerr. Need help. Heo can I remove that tacky layer from my sewing machine?
You are right be wary of any product that sprays under pressure because of the chemical used as a propellant in the can. I used to use these sprays outside with a chemical filter mask.
I followed your flannel tip directions and I am happy to say I got excellent results with my first quilt and now I am on to two more quilts. I am keeping that old flannel sheet forever. Thanks for expertise.
awesome tip
I want to,try this out and I’m glad to read that you experimented it and liked it. 🌺🌸

I so appreciate your tip on the flannel covered table top. This is a game changer for me. Thank you so much. I subscribed to your channel.
Wow you made this look so easy. I will try this tomorrow and that’s for the tips of relaxing the batting!!
Thank you, Laura, for making things easier and instructions are clear.
Love your videos!
TY for you instructions slow and informative very understandable, would i use same for polyester fill?
Hi Laura, the flannel tip is brilliant, I will certainly give this method a go. All your videos are well worth watching. Could you tell me what the quilt is on the back wall and is there a video for it.
Great video. You mention you are going to quilt as you go the 3 pieces. I would really love to see that video. Thank you.
I 2nd that 😁
You’re a beautiful person and made this process easy! Thank you.
Im New to quilting. And I'm going to try this. Great job showing how to do this.

ok we will not tell him he is correct... but I did get them form the hardware store.
What a great tip - using flannel on the table! Thanks :)
thanks, I do love an easy clean up:)
Hi thank you for this helpful demo. One question, should the spray be used in a well-ventilated area
Thank you for sharing. That was very informative being a beginner at quilting!
I have spray basted several quilts but your information was really helpful. I especially liked the tip of using a flannel sheet to lay the quilt out on. It really works- I will be using that method from now on. Thanks!
Can you store the spray basted backing, batting and top if you cannot get to the quilting right away? Your video very informative, thank you,
that is a good question, I have keep mine up to a month. It is washable so I don't think it would be a problem.
Great vid, thank you so much ... Did you spray the top & put it on the batting or did you spray the batting....I am thinking it would be better to spray the top rather than the batting as don't want all the spray going into the batting plus it would stick better...not sure..
I spray the fabric:)
Good question
Wow, thank you very much for this video. I will follow your example. I love the flannel idea.

Do you have a video of the quilt as you go process?
no but i is a good idea, I will put it on my list, thank you
Have you ever used Quilters Select Basting Powder?
How big do you cut your Hobbs Batting compared to the backing fabric?
Does this product gum up your needles? Can you use it on yarn?
Can I use this to quilt without a frame? I have quilted 2 without a frame and always basted them but it takes 2-3 days to do a thorough job. Will it hold up to being folded and unfolded. scrunched up alot while traveling and quilting? Possibly 4 months?

You said that you wash all the quilts after using. Do you use delicate cycle? What about liquid softener and/or drier softener towels? Thank you
I do like to wash my quilt in a cold delicate wash with a mild soap and a little liquid softener (one that you would use on children's clothing) and I dry it until it is almost dry and then lay it flat to finish drying :)
What kind of spray are you using?
Thank you for the tip about covering a sewing machine!
🌺🌸 Hi and thanks a lot for this very useful tutorial. I work very slowly and I’m wondering how long the spray can hold without basting pins. Also, do you use a special kind of needle, like a Teflon one so it does get gummed up?
I have just found out that 505 will last 4 months on polyester and 6 months on coton/ natural fabrics. 🌺🌸
does the spray basting gum up the sewing machine needle
use the new nonstick needles by Schmitz
nice demo!
When do you put on the backing. N
So easy to understand, thank you for the help. Now the hard part is we have no fabric stores near us. .:(
How do you get the batting to be so smooth and wrinkle-free?
Do you have the video of the quilt as you go?
Do you put your label on the backing of the quilt before doing this step?
I like to hand sew my labels on after I am done the quilting :)
Doesn’t moving it about in the machine move the layers? Brenda uk
My recent first time doing it this way I didn't find it shifted at all. Easy peasy! Xx
how do you have your flannel fastened down?
I just used clamps
SewVeryEasy thanks for responding. I saw how after I sent the question.
Thank you!
Laura what type of spry basting do you use?
I have used them all, and do not have a favorite.
Is it necessary to wash the quilt after spray basting, or can you use it right away after your done quilting and binding it?
I really like your style of teaching. Thank you.
Thank you Patty, and I do like to wash all my quilts after I am done. I like the thought of it being really clean. However you can use right after.
and does it gum up the sewing machine needle
Thank you Laura 🧡
Thank you.
i love the quilt behind you, what is the name of the pattern?
I'm sorry I do not know as it was made a very long time ago:)
I spray to my sewing machine by error. I ordered a silicone spray and received that one that you are using. And I spray in my sewing machine thinking that are silicone spray and now there a sticky layerr. Need help. Heo can I remove that tacky layer from my sewing machine?
yes, try sewing machine oil or dish soap or Goo Gone or you can get a Glue remover called DK5 amzn.to/3eeqJ6H
@@SewVeryEasy Depending on the surface, rubbing alcohol might work for an issue like this. Be sure to test any method in an inconspicuous spot first.
I love your vids thank you
Thank you , I am glad you are joining along
I worry about your lungs inhaling that spray. You are a great teacher, hate to loose you to "glue lung emphysema".
I keep my windows open but thank you for letting others know. I will mention next time, thank you
You are right be wary of any product that sprays under pressure because of the chemical used as a propellant in the can. I used to use these sprays outside with a chemical filter mask.
thank you!!
thanks
Hi can I say how remove basting spray?
Machine wash and it is gone:)
