Mel and Danny's chemistry is unbelievable. That's why the Lethal Weapon series will live on forever in Hollywood. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan have good chemistry, but nothing beats those old dogs....
You can reasonably expect to make lieutenant between 7 and 15 years of becoming an officer, and a captain between 9 and 20 years, depending on your department. bullshit walks

The fact that I got to see all 4 of these in one day in theaters a couple years ago was GREAT. I hadn't gotten to see the first 2 as a kid in theaters.
Well maybe if people only saw them as two humans living together versus a ebony and ivory. Soon we will be placed into sections or class. Irish and Africa living together or Pols and Indian. Good folks don't see separation defined by skin, gender, age, or heritage. Just the heart.
You're right, but police chiefs are usually meant to be dislikeable to the hero to make them seem funny to us. Like Inspector Todd in Beverley Hills Cop.
Even more painful than having one of your old cops kidnap you to get into the station and steal all your guns and then having to electrocute Somebody by knocking them onto a train track?
Lethal weapon movies are brilliant. Seen this seen on several occasions, and some, always makes me laugh, same as Leo / uncle benny in the dentist scene. I know three and four weren’t as popular but I love all of them. 👍👍✌️✌️
This wasn't the best Lethal Weapon movie but I loved it because it showed progression. Bit like this, and Riggs getting "Too old for this shit" really closed the series our right.
Why can't they be fired? Or be put behind a desk. So, there's not some desk sergeant position open for them? Somehow, in the whole LAPD there aren't 2 lieutenant spots open? All of them are full? Even if that's true, there are two captain positions open? Why can't two lieutenants be promoted, and then promote these two to lieutenant? And even if there's a legit reason to jump these two past lieutenant, what are their responsibilities as captains? They're told that they're being promoted to keep them off the streets; which is true, since lieutenants and above are typically more or less stuck behind a desk. Yet they're promoted and walk away without being told what they're in charge of.

I like the way the guys all tease Murtaugh, here about his birdman newsclip, and in LW 2 with the condom tree after his daughter was in a condom commercial.
To be fair, given their track records, they probably should have been meritoriously promoted before this. However, that would have meant them giving up their partnership as each would get sent to differing officer billets.

Four things i wondered about when Riggs and Murtaugh made Captain: 1. How much of a pay increase did these guys get? Im thinking at least 20 percent. 2. What kinds of perks did the senior rank provide? Maybe an expense account... 3. Any extra responsibilities they have to do? Or are they just doing the same old stuff, as before, reporting to their Captain..but just keeping the same rank. (My guess is probably doing the same stuff, because i cant picture The Chief putting Riggs in charge of a precinct. Murtaugh, maybe..but unlikely, because of Riggs and Murtaugh are a team. However, if theyre out in the field, theyre likely to be in charge of a mission.) 4. Who is considered the more senior Captain? I'm thinking Murtaugh, because he's likely the more senior officer as a Sergeant. But, im pretty sure rank wont be an issue between them. I know its just a movie and their tenures as Captains are brief..but im just curious..
It seems less and less likely as time goes on that they'll do a fifth, even though recent enough the discussions have taken place. But if they did, I'd be at the theater opening day.
