Michigan State had a good football team that year - Big Ten Co-Champs. However, Alabama was just plain angry. I don't ever remember seeing so many players carried off the field. I'm sure Kirk Cousins remembers a few of those hits.
@@martinmccormick2166 We lost 3 games that year. The most losses of any season since the Saban dynasty began. The most losses of any season since (including bowl games) is 2.

Man that was a mean and nasty D that my Tide had that year !! But their is one big difference between Bama and everyone else his name is Coach Saban,,,
My favorite play of this entire game - 1:02:12. When your QB springs your best WR free with a lead block to put up another 6 points....it's a good day at the office. This team may have seriously underachieved due to injuries and perhaps some level of complacency after the 2009 season, but....man this was at the beginning of the Saban era of dominance over college football. I'm also reminded of some of the memes that came out of this game, with Dantonio asking Saban, "How did you lose three games with that team!?" And then Saban retorting, "How did you win 11 games with that team!?"
This was the regroup season for Bama. A record of 10-3, losses to South Carolina, LSU and eventual national champion, Auburn. First time to my knowledge that a college football team has a first and goal and then punted. That was Michigan State in this game. My friend Larry at church had the best line about what Bama's defense did to MSU especially Kirk Cousins. "Their weren't enough doctors to treat Cousins. Poor guy he never saw what was coming". What came was back-to-back national titles for the Tide. This game was a foreshadowing of what 2011 and 2012 would be.
I was there...MSU QB Cousins later said in his pro career that the hardest hit he ever took was from Bama's Courtney Upshaw. He stated that it felt like a "carwreck." Lol.
We weren't so much lazy as we were injured that season. We weren't far removed from the sanctions and we didn't have the depth like now. We had Ingram hobbled with ankle surgery, Julio tried to play the last half the season with a broken hand, GMac battled two seperate concussions, Trent even had a sore hamstring for a stretch. Defensively we had lost a ton from 09. Saban himself said before this game we had all of our starters helathy for the first time all year and we saw what we COULD have done. You have those seasons every now and then. Hell, even with all that we won 10 games and beat the hell out of the co champs of the Big 10 so it was ok. We knew the next few years were setting up nicely.
I remember this game very clearly. Michigan State was at the mercy of a team that not only had Auburn and Cam Newton beat, but borderline blown out, and lost a heartbreaker. So Bama was a mad, furious team, and took it our on Michigan State. Plus the Tide had some issues with injuries and were finally healthy. Poor Michigan State falls victim. Kirk Cousins was taking a beating from Bama's linebackers, the the defense was taking the same from McElroy, Ingram and Richardson.
Alabama hasn't had a massive offensive line like this in years now. Maze should have been drafted pretty damn high. Most if the starters on defense are from the State of Alabama. 2 or 3 aren't, Hightower is from Tennessee. Alabama's star receivers are from Alabama as well.

ALA lost at S CAR 35-21. ALA only had 36 rush yrds , but out-gained SC. ALA lost at LSU by FG. ALA led AUB 24-0 in 1st half, but lost by 1 pt. Too many turnovers vs LSU & AUB.
Funny that at 1:20:00 they talked about Don Treadwell the Mich State DC and what a great job he did when the head coach was out with a heart attack. How he well deserved to be the head coach at Miami Ohio. Treadwell was horrible at that job. 8-21 at a school that usually has a winning record.
Someone wrote an article that Alabama's 2017 team was Alabama's worst since 2010. Well, this 2010 team was pretty good in this bludgeoning of Michigan State.
What curse? MSU started numerous African American players in '66, including their QB and defensive captain. Most of them refugees from the segregated South. Alabama, of course, had Bull Connor, the state Police at the Edmund Pettis Bridge, George Wallace and...no black players at all. I guess the curse of bigotry and racism?

Losing to Auburn after leading 24-6 in the first half doomed the next team Bama played that year.
We were also finally healthy and hadn't played a complete game all year..until this one.
