    Ive been writing poems and short stories on Instagram for a few years now and thought about publishing them into a collection. Not even to sell to a lot of people but just doing it for myself. It’s all really intimidating and scary but this helped a lot! Thank you so much and I wish you success!

    • @Elizabethvanderblank
      @Elizabethvanderblank  8 місяців тому +1

      That’s such a great question and I’ve been pondering it now for a few days…
      Honestly, you won’t know; because it directly ships to the customer. So you might never find out. And the customer might not know it’s a mistake?
      Could order myself author copies, but they are typically all consistent in a batch. So that won’t tell you much. And then I have a lot of my books that I’d have to sell locally haha
      I assume Amazon has a good return policy though. So my guess is that it would not be an issue

    This was very helpful, Ive never thought that I would write poetry, but I just started doing it as a cope mechanism, and I ended up liking what I wrote, I have few poems and some short stories, kind of inspired by Edgar Alan Po. I hope to self publish it this year when I write few more! :)
    Do you know if publishing it with a made up name is gonna make any legal problems or something, for example if my book makes money and I wont be able to get it since it's not my real name 😆

    • @Elizabethvanderblank
      @Elizabethvanderblank  4 місяці тому

      Never say never 😉 congratulations on your new found enjoyment with poetry!
      I love Poe!
      Not official legal advice: don’t use someone else’s name for your pen name, kdp asks for a lot of info for payouts such as your real name & social security number & bank info etc. So that’s arranged on the platform.

    Locking it into a play list, i started poetry this year soon to reach my 33rd poem and was thinking of making a book. Do you feel that a good range or would that be too short for a poetry book

    • @amoonslove
      @amoonslove 7 місяців тому +3

      For your first time, it should be fine depending on how long your poems are! When I published my poetry book “I’ve decided to love myself” by Iman Mohsin- my book was created with short snippets and poems with roughly 35pages. I created it on Google docs and contacted a publisher. It was such a surreal experience to see my book be published! I absolutely loved every bit of it! So go for it! Best of luck!! 😄

      I'm grateful for the inspiring story and support. I definitely have to experience it.

    • @Elizabethvanderblank
      @Elizabethvanderblank  7 місяців тому +2

      That is a great question!
      Personally struggled with the length of the book & feeling if it was “good enough” or “long enough” it was a huge hurdle!
      Eventually, I realized that if I tried to force it or make poems just to add length it stifled the creative process.
      Long story short, if it intuitively feels like it is ready, it probably is! You get to decide and determine if you feel like the feelings / message has been conveyed.

    The complex nature of power structures
    The qualitative analysis of moral paralysis
    Converging in a multitude of administrative substructures

    what is immediately apparent in pictures
    Compared to men
    women are fundamentally lesser

    Karma spun from ancient days
    At the heavens praying up in space.......
    Encoded in my DNA
    Love and hate within the frame

    Reverse my heart and what it feels

      They were loosely around the same theme, then divided in to subsections that were related. Much of my editing was focused around creating some kind of flow & order to the poems, so that separately they were there, but also contributing to the entire theme & order of the book. I eliminated completely non related poems.

      First, I think it depends how long the poems are. If they are long or short format, the numbers would be different. The best advice is use other poetry books as a reference for about how long they are, then you can plan accordingly for the length. I personally preferred around 130-210 pages.
