Yellowstone off-trail snowshoeing and how I make a video by myself

- This video will show you a way to go hiking off-trail in the Yellowstone winter. But please don't do this by yourself unless you have experience. In fact, in all months of the year, go off-trail in Yellowstone with at least one other person, until you have plenty of experience.
I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I inherited a pair of Alaskan shoes from my dad 43 years ago. They are heavier than my metal ones but are the way to go if not on a packed trail.
We appreciate what you go through to bring us your videos, keeps me dreaming that maybe someday I can make a trip there and spend several months there ✌🏻👍🇺🇸
And camp in the backcountry.
That's my dream as well!
Confused as to why there would be grizzlies in middle of winter. Aren’t they hibernating?
Love you content & the way you enjoy Gods creation 🙏
Some of the male grizzlies should start coming out. Some tracks have already been spotted but not by me.
@@StanMills ok thank you for helping us understand 👍
Beautiful fan an fawn hike! Loved seeing it ,a lot of snow , your tracks are nice. I love being out there enjoying the back country in the winter , with traditional snowshoes makes it possible , thanks for a really fun video to watch, god bless thank you muck.
Always a really special place because that is the very first hike I’ve ever went on in Montana
@@teresabarbao8593 yes, in the spring and we saw a grizzly and a black bear on your first hike. You have come a long way in knowledge and experience since then.
Stan thank you for creating and sharing the blessings from your neighborhood. We are so fortunate to have your art remind us of the grace and beauty connecting us all.
MR. MILLS ------ thank you for a very informative video in beautiful YELLOWSTONE. so enjoyable to so many.
Thanks for sharing how you do your videos. Love seeing the unvarnished snow. Beautiful.
Thanks again Stan. I am even more inspired and amazed by your following and how you go about it. Much respect for you. I'll be out in Yellowstone this September on the trails from 16-20th. Maybe I'll bump into you. Take care and God bless.
Very interesting video, Stan. Thanks for sharing with us the beautiful scenery of Yellowstone in the winter and for confirming what I've always suspected as to the method by which videographers get their video shots in the outdoors. One aspect that still puzzles me is how a "video-hiker" gets those aerial shots while their hiking (there's no evidence that they are controlling the drone and they profess to be all alone). Thanks, again.
Not sure. Do you know a video that I can look at to see? I did a couple videos outside of the park about 10 years ago and had a drone following me to shoot video. But now days I hate video from drones and click off as soon as I see it.
@@StanMillsI'll have to find one. I think that Eric Hanson (formerly of Backpacking TV) does this in some of his videos. When used to illustrate the horizon and surrounding beauty, I like it. When used to view down on the subject - not so much.
How much time does it usually take you to edit a video, Stan? I am amazed at how quickly you are able to post them. This video was only shot two days before you posted it.
This one took about 1 hour.
Thanks for the reply. Great video, as always!
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Stan - just wondering where you are located on this hike. Parked beside Hwy 191, then crossed the highway to begin your hike? I remember a trail over on that side of the highway from the parking area but unsure if im right. I absolutely love that stretch of hwy 191. It's gorgeous! Thank you for the video!
Same side of the parking lot. Went up Fan creek. The Bacon Rind trail is on the other side of the highway.

I know exactly where your parked.
Interesting , I always thought you used several cameras figuring it would be a lot of work using just one. I was partially correct. 😊
A GoPro and a Canon SX70 for wildlife.
What brand of traditional snow shoes and bindings are you using? Ive been using my msr's up here in Northern Idaho and researching traditional ones to get. Keep the awesome content coming. Love the Yellowstone ecosystem!
Alaskan Traditional from Country Ways. I get the kit and put them together myself.
Stan, love your channel and videos. I would be in interested in knowing if you can be hired to take someone for a six or seven hour hike in the park.
I have not. There are a lot of permit issues and liability issues involved with that. But thank you for asking.
Very Nice !😊👍👍
I didn't know people could just hike through there and not get fined 😮
Can’t hike in Bear Management Areas certain times of year.
🦬🦌🦅🙏👍😎🇺🇸
Thanks Stan, how about a donation to your church?
Thank you very much. That would be a nice thing. But I don’t belong to a church or religion. I am a Christian that has God central to my life. I spend my life with the Bible and listening to the amazing Holy Spirit that God gave me to learn about Jesus and to grow in faith every day. In other words, I don’t really listen to people’s interpretations of what God says any more (religions), but rely totally on the Holy Spirit and the Bible. I do spend a lot of time with friends talking about our amazing God also. Thank you and have a great day and may God bless you.
Thank you, Stan! I love what you do! I am also enjoying your photography pieces of that beautiful country. I sure do miss my travel time up there...sure would like to get up there in May, a time that I have not been able to be up there. Thanks again...sure makes me feel like I am there. I love the winter in Yellowstone!
May and June are the best times for seeing wildlife. June is probably the best month for hiking. May normally has a lot of snow pack still, but maybe not this year. Hope you make it up here.
Thanks for responding!
Do you have any way which I can contact you?
You can send email to stanmillswildlifeart@gmail.com
Love watching your videos hows your day?
It is going good. Hope your day was great also.
@@StanMills it was pretty good don't you love Yellowstone in the winter?
🗽 I think I would use touring skis. If it went down a slope, I could save energy.
.
Awesome!! Thanks! 👍🇨🇦😎
When do the bears come out of hibernation
Some males may be coming out. That is why I am looking. There has already been a report of a grizzly out.
Storm Coming Yup
Yup, Good news for more moisture (snow pack).
