  • From the 1981 album Ghost in the machine, Spirits in the Material World. This song has a typical Stewart Copeland groove with bassdrum on 2 & 4 and no snare in the verses. It has a lot of ska/reggea influences. He's also playing quite straight forward here. The tempo of the song might make it challenging but also a lot of fun.
    hope you enjoy it!

I always thought this was a weird song. Something about the rhythm. Kind of catches me in an odd way that I never connected fully with.
What time signature is that in. This song almost seems like an experiment. That should’ve been left off the record.
    Anyway, nice drumming !

Thanks for the comment Jim! Its a cool song to play and the off beat groove in the beginning can definitely be deceptive!

Left off the record? You gotta be trolling. This is one the best songs in the history of music on earth.

Stewart has said in two recent interviews, one at the end of 2023 and the other at the start of 2024, one with Rick Beato and the other with WIRED, that this song is his hardest to play. That's saying a lot coming from him. The song I don't care for is Too Much Information on Ghost in the Machine personally, but just the fact that this song is such a master class in musicianship that Stewart says its the one he struggles with the most proves it belongs, and he said its not because he doesn't like the song, but because its all on the upbeats and is an unconventional way to drum which is challenging, and the guitar part is all on the down beats, also not too easy, and I am glad they played it during the first Seattle concert during the reunion when I went, because they did drop it and did Hole in My Life instead I think part way through the tour. I like that song but am glad I was at a concert they played this gem. They also played Murder by Numbers which I am so happy to have been there for, a song they also substituted further in the tour.
