It's nice, simple enough to not strain your brain, but strategic enough to be quite enjoyable. It's much easier to play it on something electronic though like a smartphone or tablet.
A quality go set would be a nice addition to that a varient to rhat game is a connect 5 game. Go is like this but it's played on the intersections of the grid and captured pieces are removed instead of flipped
I've ever played Othello with my friend. She taught me how to play Othello and the rules to follow. Many years later after that day, I forgot how to play Othello so I searched on UA-cam to watch again. And now I finally know how to play Othello again, thanks to you for teaching me how to play Othello! Have a nice day guys!
This is my favorite game of all time that I've been able to play more than a handful of times. I also enjoy the similar looking but very different GO, my not great Chess, Risk, and Mastermind. I quickly lost people who would play Othello with me because I would win. I'm not a boastful winner but I do have extremely competitive friends and family who are unable to accept the loss and try again or move onto a game they're already good at like Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly. I actually use Othello in dating as I find a person's ability to understand the game, play, how they react to the game play, winning or losing, and if they'll play ever again to be the most telling of who they are as people. For example I played the game with a guy on our second date and his utter rage at every tiny capture of his color, along with remarks he made told me he was at best a misogynist. Another, seemingly kind, funny, somewhat intelligent, man threw the entire board, pieces and all across the room after the second round of play. He only played twice because it seemed to him that black would always win since the color goes first. For the second round he played black and still lost resulting in myinstant breakup with him, the need to buy a whole new game and the later discovery that he physically abused the next person he was dating. I would love to see a video on game play and personality types. Please keep introducing people to the game. I'm not sure if the same theory works for Othello as it does for GO but you can tell what type of personality a person has by their style of GO gameplay.
Exactly. Most novice adults who play a few times automatically figure out that the corners are vital. So, this video gives no useful tips. None. This U.S. champion presented only game rules (that take "a minute to learn"), and did so in 4 minutes.
I know the world champ personally, he has a wealth of othello knowledge. But he isnt able to share any tactics in this basic 4 minute tutorial that they have allowed him
it is! here's some backstory of the origin of the game's name, quoting wikipedia: The name was selected by Hasegawa[15] as a reference to the Shakespearean play Othello, the Moor of Venice, referring to the conflict between the Moor Othello and Iago, and more controversially, to the unfolding drama between Othello, who is black, and Desdemona, who is white. The green color of the board is inspired by the image of the general Othello, valiantly leading his battle in a green field. It can also be likened to a jealousy competition (jealousy being the central theme in Shakespeare's play, which popularized the term "green-eyed monster"), since players engulf the pieces of the opponent, thereby turning them to their possession.
I thnk you mean Geek. A Nerd is someone who knows everything about something FICTIONAL Like a Star Wars Nerd. I Geek is someone who knows everthing about something FACTUAL, like a Maths Geek. I guess I'm a Geek for even knowing that ;)
Im sorry did i miss something It dosnt tell you how to play. How do you start? Ok blck first but do what? What do you do add pieces or flip how many can you add is flipping one turn or is included? Not too helpful for just starting
I would like to know if when you are making a move can you make move than one move if it is in a straight line? For instance there is one pice on the board with an empty space behind it then you have another piece of the same color with an empty space between it. Can you move twice?
Played othello for the first time today. Cool game. Immediately realized how important the corners are.
U touched my heart by saying that
My husband and I just retired. This game looks like it’s right up our alley. Thank you for the excellent presentation.

Very nice professional video for Othello featuring one of the very best players in the world :) and my personal friend :)
Thank you! Much easier to grasp the game concept through video than through manual. Now we can start playing at home. Game on! :)

Welcome to the World of Othello :) definitely a game that will activate your brain
Thanks for your tips, this video was really helpful. I was able to learn how to play this game.:D
Now I can play othello with my friends
excellent presentation - thanks!
Orthello is one of my favorite games.
When he said he was going to give us some tips I thought it was going to be something a little bit more meaningful then take the corners

I am familiar with the game but didn't know how to play it. I wonder if they named this after the Shakespeare character.

Great for first time players!
I found this game in a Airbnb and the instructions were only French or Spanish
i forgot how to play so i watched this
You forgot the rules of OTHELLO, wow, u must have a serious memory problem
In early days, I thought the coins flip over on its on
lol me tooo....the commercial showed it that way!
Different game. I think you meant Touche, a similar game.
Ikr!
hi greetings from Bolivia
When having a world champ teach the game, did you really have to waste time on including how to assemble the board?
When said world champion is sponsored by the company, you bet...
Well, it wasn't much and it was helpful anyway so you keep the board steady.
I must have played 100,000 games of Othello, but never on an actual physical board. Looks very painful.
Craig Eillison haha yeah that's painful indeed
I thnk you mean Geek. A Nerd is someone who knows everything about something FICTIONAL Like a Star Wars Nerd. I Geek is someone who knows everthing about something FACTUAL, like a Maths Geek. I guess I'm a Geek for even knowing that ;)
Craig Eillison so, can you play on normal board now?
if the hollowed board is too painfull then just use the flat, magnetic board one
nope... I've never seen a normal board. Usually play against WZeb or on XP before Microsoft dropped it in W7 :(
Why is it painful?
I minute to learn, a lifetime to master.
Thank you!
What would happen if you in midgame stole all of your opponent's pieces?
Seems a bit like Go
Hi David
Hi dan

each player gets 32 discs, not 30
The 2 discs he excluded were the ones placed when the game starts.
TGG SR he said place 28 discs on each side after the four initial discs were on the board, 28+2=30
Dude he’s the greatest player in the world I think he knows what he’s saying
@@a_sock_puppet__vods7969 there are 64 discs in Othello, do the math, he's wrong
connect 4 go bro
COMP1100 BAY BEE
so true
Thanks
How many times can the player give disc to the opponent, when they use all of theirs?
I would like to know if when you are making a move can you make move than one move if it is in a straight line? For instance there is one pice on the board with an empty space behind it then you have another piece of the same color with an empty space between it. Can you move twice?
What does this mean?
You only move once. One exception: if your opponent does not have any valid move to play, he must pass and it is your turn again.
Co nay Kho choi qua😓
😊
duper bro
When turning turk is still an option but your own leader is not...🇪🇬🇮🇷🇨🇳🇷🇺🇻🇳
Seems complicated
Othello is a glorified Connect Four
Anyone here after seeing the Chinese series.........
Well I think I am the only one 🙄
