Its trash
@@bobsbigboy_ No, it's not.
Vespertine is a masterpiece. Nothing touches it for me.
LMAOOOO
Except homogenic of course
Its all TRASH

"Björk, rhymes with jerk."
Me: Yeesss, he knows😂
Björk is my number one artist
Only Death Is Real she’s my favourite female artist easily. No one comes close to the level of artistry and intelligence she has
Is your name a reference to GOT :)?
I just found out about her
Same
Hang on but your pfp?
I am not judging your opinions but I am confused?
Guys maybe just discuss this 47 minute long amazing guide someone has put hours and hours of work in, instead of ignoring it and just requesting the stuff you want to see. Cheers
Jesse aan de Wiel - I was going to say the same thing myself.
I think, requests like that show that people love what he is doing and want to see more.
@@rustemagayev8256 Yeah, the original comment is just kinda stupid tbh
Not to take away from Björk or anything, but it's amazing to see someone with a Ravedeath, 1972 profile picture
Hot boy talking about Bjork for 40 minutes? Babes, I found the holy grail!
@Jac K that's THICC BOY
Smart boy talking about .. anything .. for 40 minutes...
Bjork sucks
@@bobsbigboy_ that's right! you know who doesn't? Björk.
@@kd013n Björk sucks
Bjork is a DaVinci of her time. A true artist. Years from now, people will look at her work, and talk about her like we did DaVinchi. So unbelievably underappreciated. A true innovator of not just music, not just art, but self expression. Thank you Bjork
This is true
Holy shit. What a statement
I love her.
STR8 FACTS!!!!!!!!!
lol ok
I consider Hyperballad to be the greatest pop song of all time tbh
Is Volta a bad album or a bad Björk album?
Personally, I quite enjoy the album.
Agreed I think Volta was pretty good
I enjoy it too. It is not a bad album but kinda weak for björk's standards. I'd dare to say Volta (björk's weakest, least consistent album) is better than some artist's bests.
It's good album. Looks bad in comparison to her classic albums beforehand.
Was I the only one who had trouble not crying while being reminded of all the beautiful moments in Björk's career?
hehe
the Sugarcubes are so underrated, their song Birthday is my favourite vocal performance from Björk ever
One of my absolute favourite songs
that song is so so so great
I'm so glad that you're showing biophilia some love! It might actually be my favorite björk record alongside vespertine. They both give me that warm, peaceful feeling. I especially love the slower tracks like moon and cosmogony!
Thunderbolt Biophilia is a fantastic album. Sure it's a bit more experimental and takes a couple of listens to fully digest but it's worth it. It was brilliantly crafted and had such an interestingly unique soundscape. I love the slower cuts as well. Virus is one of my favourite songs.
June Asiimwe Virus is amazing too! Love listening to biophilia while out in nature! :)
Thunderbolt I haven't tried that listening experience yet. Perhaps i should. It's an album that makes you feel in touch with nature & the universe.
I totally agree with you! Biophillia and Vespertine are my favourites and now Utopia with them. she makes delicate sounds feel so powerful with raw emotion whilst still having an ethereal tone. just mesmerizing
I love the productions by Current Value. Tim Elliot has always been one of my favourite producers.
I love Björk so much. I walked down the aisle to Frosti at my wedding. It sounded awesome in the teeny chapel I got married in. Great guide!!
Also, can you do more discography guides on female artists? I’d love to see who else you’d pick!

deep cuts hype!
About damn time and not to shabby
All Neon Like is in 4/4.
deep cuts so, what is your take on Utopia? What do you think so far?
(also great video and really good insights; been listening to Björk myself since her Sugarcubes era and saw her live 1st time for the 'Stick Around For Joy' tour)
I know this guide is a few years old, but I'm genuinely enjoying it this evening. Last summer, after appreciating Bjørk from afar for years, I suddenly became a super fan. I bought most of her catalog and took it with me on a week-long camping trip. Listening while driving down lonely forested two-tracks in Michigan was the perfect way to immerse in her work.
That sounds like a really really amazing experience.
This video is what I needed, thanks.
you're welcome Eliza!
It's incredible looking at her discography and seeing how solid she crafted each album. Im still discovering awesome bits in each album.
Homogenic, Vespertine, Vulnicura...
Björk is one of my all time favourite artists

This video had me open up so many tabs to check out later. From lyrics, blog articles, songs and album art. Thank you Beloved
Björk was once described to be not as being ahead of her time, but being from a different timeline entirely. I adore her and her music and she has easily one of the most captivating discographies of any artist in history.
Good contrast
From a really huge bjork fan. Thank you for not making this video 10 minutes long. She is such an artist to talk about
Brilliant video. Björk is one of my favourite artists and to hear you describe her music with such eloquence and precision makes me very happy. I admire how fiercely she sticks to her creative vision and doesn't conform to what the masses think she should do.
I hope you can do a video for Kate Bush soon. Cheers.
June Asiimwe Yeah I second this
LOVE this channel to death dude, you deserve more subs. these guides are my absolute favorite, cant wait for that autechre guide you hinted at a bit back!
Björk is Best Girl
No doubt about it
Matias Gonzalez what???? Don't talk anymore
translation: Björk is better than the Spice Girls
Violently Sappy Bjork is better than Bruce Springsteen
Hey scamthony scamtano i know youre watching this!
Please collab on a utopia review.
This would be perfect!
A side note: Bjork wore the swan dress to the Academy Awards (the Oscars) when she was nominated for best song. I think that is why it got such a huge reaction out of the media: because the academy awards are so revered.
oliver, my dude, my pal, could you do one of Talking Heads
yes. yes I can. and will.
neat
thanks my homie
yay
his name is Olive, Stefan.
That would be a little short no?
Guide to Frank Zappa? Would kill someone to see that.
Kill one person for every album.
Dunno if you guys dig podcasts, but if you check out Discography`s first season! Goes through all the official albums
He did a Miles Davis guide, it's almost there.
A guide to The Roots would be really cool.
SlimVeggie oh shit tht would be awesome
Your ability to analyze the complexites of Bjork’s music is impressive, intelligent, and insightful.
Domestica (vespertine b-sides) is also worth checking out
James Gunn said on his 2011 Ameoba 'What's in my bag' that "..vespertine is the best album to fuck to." He couldn't be more correct. Excellent video.
Homogenic would be perfect with the original mix of All Is Full of Love instead of Howie B's remix. That's my opinion.
Alex D I totally agree. I think it the original version fits much better with the soundscape of the album and is more powerful.
That's what I've always said! If the original mix would've been the ending note of the album, it would have elevated Homogenic to the highest of stratospheres!
Omg, all is full of love is literally the thing my ears orgasm to every time
I always thought it was “med-OOO-la” not “MEdjula”
Stephen Burgess I think that’s just his accent.
Also without homogenic there'd be no kid a. Fact
Please, some day, A Guide to Tom Waits
Well
Please do Mount Eerie/ Microphones please!!!!
While listening to All Neon Like, imagine the figure on the cover art moving, she does, she walks towArds you fixed in the same spot.
Maybe i was high. Maybe i wasn't. but i know what i saw
I wish you brought up how jazzy at its core Debut is but thank you for the video.
Oliver, thanks a ton for making such high quality guides to music artists. Can you also make a list of albums that would get you into experimental/art rock genre? I would highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
You're very welcome! yup I'll certainly think about adding that to the list for next year's content
deep cuts You can also make a guide to Sigur Ros (just saying, it’s up to you since you have other video assignments as well to upload).
It's sacrilegious that you did not speak about "Family" for over 2 hours.
I used to be really into Björk, I loved Post, Vespertine and of course Homogenic. From there I couldn't really follow I have to admit. Also what I realize again while watching this, Björks creativity asks for lots of attention. It's not a light listening, kinda exhausting I feel.
Why?
Give debut a proper listen if you haven't, I think it is the most accessible / lightest album of hers
Very true, every time I listen to a new Bjork album I have to be doing nothing but listen because he work requires all your attention
The only two Björk albums I've really listened to are Homogenic and Medulla, and I was so goddamn floored by them that I haven't explored her other work yet. So I really appreciate this clear, well-thought-out talk about her albums and their context in her discography and life.
I'd be interested in

I think homogenic is a once in a lifetime album, i doubt I'll ever hear anything that tops it.
Your guides on Swans and Radiohead were amazing. I’ve never really listened to Bjork but your guide has convinced me to check out her stuff. Thanks for the best music related content on youtube.
Guide to Tricky??? Not that everything in his discography is perfect but I think it would make for a good exploration.
Isaac Duff yes please

Listening to you talk about music is getting me through homework, love ya Oliver.
I absolutely love Björk and this video is so well done! You’ve earned my subscription
Hyperballad is the most unique love song ever, I can't think of any other artist that has tackled it from that angle, and love song lyrics are typically tired out.
Death Grips mentioned. Someone tell Melon!
There's no one in the history of contemporary music who has made the music she has, she's light years ahead of everyone with that superlative voice, that amazing depth and range in music, and the ability and sensitivity to bring it all into any form of music she chooses...even a pop song.
I will be happy to watch some guides to Mike Patton, Justin Broadrick and James Plotkin. At least, one of them... May be John Zorn and Bill Laswell also.
ohhh... So many interesting musicians to make guide to//
You have amazing channel. Hello from Russia!
isn't the Homogenic cover styled by McQueen but shot by Nick Knight?
Yes, the kimono, the massai necklace and the wig she wore are custom version from McQueen’s 97 fall show for Givenchy.
Homogenic’s album cover was shot by Nick Knight. The dress was designed by Alexander McQueeen
Fabian Arce that's what I thought when I heard him.. like I didn't know Alexandra dabbled with photography
My man, can you do Talking Heads next?
This
I know I shouldn’t be here .
But this looks more important.
I have to go back to gwoogle cwassroom.
Thank you for making this! Venus As A Boy and Jóga are the songs that got me into Björk but her discography is so dense (and occasionally a little esoteric), I'm really grateful you've provided a means to digest it all a little more easily.
Alsoooo, I'm really hoping you follow through on the Guide to Steve Albini!
I've only listened to Vespertine and Vulnicura, so thanks for this video! Excited to start from the beginning.
you got a lot to enjoy Scott, I'm jealous
Possibly a Guide to some jazz musicians? Davis, Coltrane, Coleman, Mingus, etc.
The works of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez would be a dream come true for a Guide, though I wouldn’t blame you for not wanting to cause there’s SO MUCH
In any event, great video as always!
Really good job, some great choice of descriptive words too. Nice that you mentioned Tanya Tagaq, I saw her live in 2013 with a violinist, it was one of the most incredible live performances I've ever seen. By the way, it's stalactites that drip...
Oliver, thanks so much for this. I dropped everything I was doing as soon as I saw the video was up. I admire all your detailed hommages to all of the artists that you've made guides to.
I am so thankful for this.
Too bad you didn't mention Kukl, if you did, her collaboration with Death Grips would make much more sense hehe
Listening to the description you make of some songs I just felt tears coming, because it was perfectly what I felt listening to them
I think that's a proof of how her songs are strong in universal, honest, beautiful emotions. Her words, these sounds, I can't get bored of them, and I sometimes do get the feeling that listening to Björk is like having a real connection with nature, love, universe, transcendance.
It may seem ridiculous, but this feelings are not far from being religious
Hyperbolic (but sincere)
It’s actually pronounced
“Buh-jork”
I lostened to Homogenic and it's already one of my favorite albums ever. It's better than Vespertine in my opinion.
it would be cool to have some of the music playing throughout the video as examples of what you're talking about-some animations or clips would be cool too
anybody else stopping the video every few minutes to listen to the tracks he is talking about?
Happy birthday Björk!
52 years young.
I really enjoyed listening to you. I've followed Bjork since Debut, and it's been an amazing journey. A new album from Bjork is always a big event for me. Great stuff!
Do Oasis pls. I know ‘Oasis sucks XD’ but I think their 2000s albums are their best and are highly misunderstood records
drawing restraint 9 is a very difficult film, and unless you're a fan of storyless, strange art films i wouldn't recommend it. if you are, it's great! i love barney's work and DR9 is oneof my favorites of his.
Don’t worry, you say “Björk” the right way! Good on you!
You should do a guide to Animal Collective
These guide videos are great. So far I love the artists you picked. And even if I known them all pretty well, you still shine a light on some aspect that was unknown to me. So thanks for that and hopefully we can see many more of them :)
Fabulous genuine work, as always. Greatly appreciated! If any suggestion for further dwelling is allowed I would adore shows on enigmatic female performers and vocalists like Camila Moreno, Jenny Hval, Rykarda Parasol, Jessica Sligter, Anna von Hausswolff, Tess Parks, Peaches, Dead can Dance, Cranes, Nico, Lou Rhodes, Stina Nordenstam, Blonde Redhead, Chastity Belt, Carla dal Forno, Emma Ruth Rundle, King Woman, Violeta Parra, Grouper, Slowdive, True Widow, Low, Circuit des Yeux, Nina Simone, Jess Williamson, Beth Gibbons, Lingua Ignota, Diamanda Galas, Jarboe, The Dead Weather, Jackie Lynn, Haley Fohr, Rockettothesky, Martina Topley-Bird, 55 Cancri é, Vashti Bunyan and the like.
Thanx a bunch for a great show!
Few times did I have such strong emotional response to art as when I watched Stonemilker's video for the first time.
Absolutely wonderful guide to Bjork! I've been a Bjork fan since Homogenic was released (I was 11-years-old at the time) and it was absolutely wonderful to re-live all of the key Bjork moments that you talked about in this video. Bjork's catalogue has definitely been one of the most fun sinking my teeth into out of any other artist. There is also much that I have not yet discovered. Mostly from Volta and onwards. After listening to Volta and going to a concert from her Volta tour, that was kind of my pinnacle moment and I drifted to other artists from there. After your video, I feel like I kind of owe it to her to listen to the stuff that came afterwards. I discovered you from your Progressive rock videos and spotted this Bjork video. I must say that I agree that Homogenic is a near-perfect masterpiece. There are SO MANY albums that I could say are my favorite, but Homogenic is perhaps my favorite-favorite. PERHAPS. :]
You got Oscars and Cannes mixed up, but otherwise an excellent guide! :)
okay this time it's actually true: i have NEVER clicked a notification faster
it wasn't true all the other times? :(
actually i suppose i've never left that comment on this particular channel, so it seems you have been spared my obsessive deceit
Guide to Steven Wilson/PPT!
I loved this so much
You have no idea how happy I am that you made this
A guide to Kate Bush in the future, what about that?
I'd love a guide to Autechre.
luckily for you that's the next planned guide :)
Fantastic job! I really enjoyed this. I’ve been a fan of Bjork since Debut. I adore her first 4 albums, but the rest has been a mixed bag for me, with hidden gems along the way. You’ve brought up so many great points that I plan to revisit some of her recent work, which left me a bit cold. Great job and for what it’s worth, I would watch an hour if your content is this good. I see many folks have suggested Kate Bush - that would be great. Madonna would be great as well. I’ll have to look through your stuff. This is the first vid I’ve seen.
I'm desperately in love with Biophilia. I want to live inside "Virus". "My sweet adversary..." One of my all time favorite tracks. I also love it's connection with science, and how the songs were used for apps to help kids in Iceland learn about different processes in nature.
did you ever find anyone who watched Drawing Restraint 9? i’ve been looking for it for like a year now...
I saw it in a museum years and years ago. I have the fold out poster from the pamphlet hanging on my closet door right now.
A guide to Tom Waits would be cool
Jack Lawrence Kool Keith too
Biophillia is one of my favourites from her!! I’m glad I’m not alone!
Deep Cuts is the true busiest music nerd
Great video dude... any way we could get Fripp guide?
I just subscribed to you. Because, as a Bjork fan, yes, you touched on the things that get to my heart in her music. Thank you. :) Now off to check on your other reviews. ps. you sure have a wonderfully literate expression. It's hard to 'talk' about music, but you nailed it here.
Became interested in Björk by way of Medula but it was primarily through Volta that I really became a fan of her work as a whole, so those two albums for me are my favourites, but I get why people really rate Post, Homogenic and Vespertine as some of her best work.
my television is about to explode
Vespertine has a very special place in my heart
this is fantastic oh my god i subscribed! could you do a guide to kate bush?
Bjork is my spirit animal :) Your 'A Guide to Bjork' is phenomenal. You understand music and you giving some amazing insight to her music, Absolutely deserve my subscription :)
I fell in love with her voice from the first time I saw The Sugarcubes perform on Saturday Night Live back in the day.
