    Hello! I am an American and I never noticed your "Americanisms"...just your lovely English accent. I would adore a Q&A session so here is one vote for it.🇬🇧❤🇺🇸

      @theslowtravelsfamily  6 місяців тому +9

      Hi! Haha I don’t notice them either but perhaps that’s because we both use them 😂 I think it’s fellow English folk who comment on it as it’s unusual to hear certain words coming from someone with an English accent. I don’t realise many but I know Peter always picks up on trash instead of bin, sidewalk instead of pavement, eraser instead of rubber, whiteout instead of tipex, gas instead of fuel 🤣 Thanks for the q&a vote ❤️ any questions, feel free to leave them here. Have a lovely weekend!

      Hi, I'm American and I don't think I could identify any differences, however the only thing I can hear is a lovely accent😊

      HAHAH! I get you. I do notice the word differences when I watch other British shows like the Great British Baking Show and Portrait Artist of the Year...but I haven't with you and I suppose that is because I am so used to hearing those words used here across the pond.... Anyhow, I do want to know if you teach History because you know so much about the properties and Trusts, the Lords and Ladies of the Manors and the flora and fauna of each area you travel to.@@theslowtravelsfamily

      Q - would you ever think about putting together a guide of recommendations for someone visiting? Going to the UK is a bucket list item of mine and I love seeing all the places you visit - especially the hidden gems!

    I would love a q & a video. I'm curious about what day-to-day life is like in a small countryside village. Shopping, schools, social life, employment, health care, groceries... to name a few. Would love to hear.

      Thank you so much 🥰🙏 and for taking the time to watch them! I’m a photographer, working mostly with tourist boards and hotels so thankfully I get to travel around a lot. In regards to places I recommend to visit,they’re the locations I share here 😊 although there’s lots more I haven’t yet had the chance to create videos for! I’m working on creating guides to each county of all the places I recommend which I’ll be releasing slowly later in the year as and when I can get them ready 💛 hopefully you get the chance to visit more places in the UK! Happy weekend 🐣

    I am American and I love watching many many vlogs from England which has resulted in me using so many words I often hear in them - but not "on purpose." The other day I used "chuffed" in a FB post and when I went back to read it before posting I was surprised. However I didn't take it out, I put (pleased) after it so my friends would know what it meant. Chuffed is not a word you EVER hear where I live but I hear it often on vlogs. I like it though!

    • @theslowtravelsfamily
      @theslowtravelsfamily  6 місяців тому +5

      Haha I love how we pick up language from those we listen to/are around. Chuffed is such an English word!! I don’t think I’ve ever heard it used anywhere else. Maybe your friends will unintentionally start integrating it into their daily vocabulary too 🥰

    Hello Dear! I'm American too, though Dad's father was born and raised in Nottingham. Anglophile from way back (started watching Masterpiece Theater when I was 14), but I don't notice your Americanisms either. The pronunciation can vary as well, especially for folk who have regional accents or use a lot of slang. I recall first hearing Elton John songs, and was confused when quay sounded like "key" and garage like "garridge", lol. I adore Tudor homes, and the ceilings and floors in that first one are phenomenal. Even my husband was impressed with a 1632 copy of Shakespeare in one's library. I like that your videos always leave me wanting more. You are delightful. Would love to see a bit of what you experienced in Ireland. It's a rainy, windy Easter here in Southern California, which is actually a treat after years of drought and heat waves. Cheers!

    I'm surprised you kept your English accent after so long in an American school. That's lovely. I thought you just worked there a few years but you actually grew up there. Amazing. I am an American and I have lived in UAE for over 30 years. Do you ever visit Saudi? Did you keep any connections from your time there? So interesting!

    It looks like Rosings, Catherine De Burg's house in the 1995 adaption of Pride and Prejudice. My favorite adaption for what it's worth 😊 Maybe I'm wrong though. Edit: I knew it!! Hehe I just got to the part where you told us this little tidbit 😅

Of course the family trips are fun with Heidi and her explorations. Re the q&a, I've always been inclined to get to know the creator over time, as he/she feels like sharing something, as you did in this video in regards to your schooling. Thanks again for sharing.💕

    I Love Charlecote Park, one of the nicest country mansions in the UK. The Lucy family had excellent taste. The beautiful little panel shown at 3.23 is an example of the uniquely Italian art of "pietre dure" (hard stones). It consisted of marquetry work using marble and semi-precious stones. It originated in Florence in the XVI century and is still practised today. Just a question; why didn´t you film inside Belton House? Wasn´t it allowed?

    • @theslowtravelsfamily
      @theslowtravelsfamily  6 місяців тому +1

      It’s a lovely house! Yes!! The NT volunteer I was talking to said that particular piece was incredibly expensive and rare and came from Florence. It was brought over to England and there was a bidding between the King and the time and the Lucy family. Ultimately the Lucy family purchased it and it’s still in the home today! As to Belton house, I did mention at the end of the video but the house was closed when I visited and was opening this weekend so I’ll have to return and film inside the house and orangery ☺️ Belton will make an appearance again soon! Happy weekend ❤️

I think your contributions in these difficult times are sorely needed, especially for the Anglophiles and lovers of nature and history who cannot "be there". Thanks for taking us along! ❤

    Greetings and salutations from 'across the pond', as I've heard it said! I am an American as well and was rather surprised when you mentioned 'Americanisms', I didn't even notice, totally went over my head. I do want to personally thank you from the very bottom of my heart, that you don't swear, curse, or make oaths in your videos. There's so much of that on the internet that it's positively exhausting. I absolutely love your videos! I'm a big Tudor and English cottage fan and it's a delight to watch these tours. Keep up the marvelous job! God bless you!
