It is unknown whether the pickups are singlecoil or humbuckers. There is speculation that the bridge pickup is a single coil and the neck pickup is a humbucker. No one knows for sure. Jaydee guitars who apparently built these new pickups has said that the only way to know is to destroy the monkey pickups by taking them apart.
The Gibson SG was more or less rebuilt by John Birch: several new pickups, lacquered fretboard, “zero” fret nut, etc. John Birch also made Tony’s first 24 frets SGs toward the end of the ‘70s, some more custom pickups, etc. Around 1980, John Diggins (Jaydee) built a new guitar for Tony, on his kitchen table, that became Tony’s #1 to this day. That was also the end of the John Birch relationship, and Jaydee built countless guitars for Tony to this day. Despite what Gibson says, Tony is not much of a Gibson player.
I had considered doing this at home,....As far as I know, there are no warnings that say DO NOT try making this guitar at home,....But it would be a lot nicer possessing one of these signed Tony Iommi Monkey SG`s,....or would it possess me? ( enter the thunder clap and chords of doom....)
ThemFuzzyMonsters unfortunately they are not made by Diggins. They came from John Birch now under John Carlings control, that’s where the mistake is. Diggins made the original monkey pickups and these are not exact replicas.
JayDeeSG Are you sure? Those look exactly like old JBs or new Jaydee’s ... and absolutely not like Carling’s recent output. BTW - Diggins made the Old Boy pickups; not the Monkey pickups (although he was at JB around that time).
ThemFuzzyMonsters absolutely sure, I was told by Toby Diggins and in fact it’s been verified by John Carling that he supplied 50 sets to Gibson. Also, I’m pretty sure Diggins worked on the monkey pickups for original modification per conversation
We definitely need an in-depth video...
What’s up with cream colored SG back there? I dig it
Jacob Parks yes now that is nice

The pickups are neither, they’re p90’s at least as far as I know
@@fargonianproductions2767 p90 pickups are single coils. These however are unkown.
I hope that there will be a demonstration video of this guitar
It only cost you your soul!!!
If would be cool if you show the guit next time 😂
When the fuck is it available?? Whoops
It was a John birch custom rebuilt SG, in fact he built it on his kitchen table 😝

So what year is Monkey? Apparently, years ago Gibson confirmed it was a 1965.
Give it voice!🐒
Why don’t they have a demo? Lame
I'll take one please.
They need to let the speaker grab the mic or have two lol.

You could also have Jaydee make you one ... www.jaydeecustomguitars.co.uk/
... and the pickups would be more accurate.
You guys need a new camera
So everyone needs to chop off their hands and switch em around huh.😭
They're making 25 left handed models and 25 right handed models
@@pigdick2233 Yea, i read about it later on, that is such a low number, won't be able to own one.
John Diggins pick-ups ... the rest is actually not too special.

ThemFuzzyMonsters they are also different dimensions on the Gibson reissue. If you research you’ll see the pickups are smaller on original

Hmmm! So you think the “apprentice” is Carling? That would explain how they got the “JB” engraving rights.
Do you think they used P90 shells?
