Here the town close to us they have been renovating old building for shop and lofts in the downtown. Has been a real money making endeavor for those owners.
Basildon has been struggling as a shopping centre for a while now, too many folk do their shopping 'on line', and the centre is pretty run down. I lived in and around the town for 20 years, although I never did like the place!
Basildon looks like a good place to be from and a good place to avoid if possible. There are a few towns like that in the north of Germany in the Ruhr region. Built up to accomodate workers and families from new local industries that may, or may not survive. That fountain certainly must have caused some talk!
I would have difficulty recommending places for tourists to visit along the north bank of the Thames. It was fairly prosperous when Ford, Marconi and Rothmans had big plants here, but now it is pretty much a dormitory town for the poor souls that work in London.

Someone was standing on the roof of a train this morning. Stopped all trains and our line started at Pitsea.
Yes, I saw the delays, affected the morning peak.

Love the music 😘♥️
Sous les cieux de Paris?? ☺️♥️
I love a train journey off peak.
It did make me smile, under Paris skies, in Basildon. I guess I won't see the place for a while!
