The reason why often red cars fade out, it's because red takes more uv's and tend to fade out for that reason, and secondly in recent cars it means that it's been repainted, because original paint it's better than that

I’d say the way buyers are snapping up cars under £2k at the moment that’s got to be a £1295 car. To be fair it’s actually one of the better Megane’s I’ve seen of that age.

Keeping the MOT certificates is probably at least now just something thats carried over from before you could check online but i do still consider them part of the cars documentation so will keep them with the rest of it. Someone having them can also mean they kept that kind of stuff organised and likely cared about the car too.

We had a 56 reg Megane Expression 1.6 16v, bought it at 60k miles. It was a base model but was a good car albeit it suffered from the usual dodgy French electrics issues yours has - the front window regulators broke and the rear windows had a mind of their own, especially in wet weather when they’d go up and down when they felt like it. I ended up removing the fuse for them in the end.
Mechanically it was very good though, in the near 90k miles we did in it in 5yrs it required no more than regular servicing. It was spacious, comfy and regularly transported our family of 5 around and never dropped below 42mpg. Unfortunately it developed a gearbox whine at 150k and that combined with a failed MoT for two wheel bearings meant it went to the big scrapyard in the sky.

In answer to your MOT record question, it’s a bit of both. I know I can find it online, and I’ve done a car vertical check anyway, but to me it is a bit alarming when you don’t get any paperwork at all. The old mot records beef out the paperwork a bit which always gives me a bit of a hint that the car may have been cared for. Weird I know!

My wife has an 07 Clio. The window did the same until the regulator gave up and needing replacing so check that. Water in the scuttle is common and for the reasons you said. Ours nearly killed the wiper motors and if an ECU is in there like the Laguna it can kill it and write the car off! Great video do like seeing the cars you get in 👍

Open the front underfloor door pockets, I suspect they will be full of water, hence the condensation. As you said, the drain holes under the scuttle block with dirt and leaves and the water comes into the car. You need to take the wiper blades off, remove the plastic scuttle trim and clean them out with a net curtain rod.

This means the only place to put a dashcam is in the corner, stuck to the dashboard which I hate with a passion! Like you I think they need to be stuck to the windscreen wherever possible like aftermarket satnavs (although not like those idiots that stick them literally in the middle of the drivers view).

Hold the window button until the window gets to the bottom and keep holding for at least 10 secs and the direction should reverse.
The water doesn't have to be heard sloshing about to be there and you could have a submerged wiper motor. Lift up the scuttle cover to check for water before the wiper motor and arm joints end up knackered
For that sort of mileage the petrol engine probably doesn't have much more life in it. The only Renault engine to have for a runabout is the 1,5 dci - will run forever if serviced regularly.

When you release the bonnet there should be a 'tongue' sticking out through drivers side grille, which you can pull to release the wind safety latch. The car feels nippy also due to quite low gearing, close to 3500 revs at 60 MPH. The cambelt is a bitch to replace -therefore most of Meganes end up at scrapyard with snapped belt and twisted valves.

In my opinion having MOT records just shows the owner has most likely taken better care of it if they've bothered to keep hold of them. Obviously, could turn out to be completely wrong but it's the little things that make a difference and MOT records on paper is definitely one of them.

    • @EnglishTMTB
      @EnglishTMTB Рік тому

It's an interesting point but I'm not sure I necessarily agree...
Mrs, for example, is OCD about keeping it all together, but doesn't really know anything about cars so left to her own devices would only take it for a service when the car prompts, takes garage advice on worn parts etc but no preventative maintenance unless I prompt it.
I could go either way on printouts of MOT records - on the one hand, it hints at that OCD type bent that makes it more likely that all receipts for maintenance would've been kept...
This obviously has its uses - but would I necessarily want to pay a "FSH" premium for a car owned by a Mrs T left to her own devices? No - without a bare minimum owner, that car wouldn't be on the road at all... The only time FSH is useful to me is when it shows an owner that knows their cars and is willing to pay to keep them faultless.
No SH at all isn't necessarily indicative of anything... But it does mean that I'm going to have to budget for some PM to be done just for my peace of mind.
I've bought cars with full and good SH, I've bought cars with full but unimpressive SH and cars with next to none.
Between modern cars prompting owner for services and MOT testers insisting on dangerous parts being changed (and with many a good tester, refusing to subject a car with no evidence of cambelt change to the emissions test) you've got a fairly decent chance that bare minimum has been done for a reasonable chunk of the cars life.
Oh and I'd never buy anything these days without doing a Vcheck - doesn't cost a silly amount more than HPI but does tell you a silly amount more.

    Why?
My old car had the satnav suctioned to the windscreen and over time the suction cup started to melt onto the screen - by the time it came to remove it, it really didn't want to... In fact, it put several 4" cracks in the windscreen when it finally let go.
