I've never understood the appeal of Dhalgren. I've owned it for decades (the same version you're holding). I've tried to read it several times, but each time I come away thinking it an absolute mess and just give up. Delany's best book (for me anyway) is Nova, which I've read several time.
I loved NOVA. On my second read of DHALGREN I almost gave up several times, but upon finishing it I find it stays with me, so...I don't know. There's something there, but I don't know what.
