I graduated in August 2023 applied to many jobs. I've gotten a few calls and one on-site interview but never got to go forward with any of them. Realizing my goal should be to create projects on my free time and also give myself more time in general (i work an 9-5pm job which is bad for interviews). I hope i can land something soon once I create some projects.
oof 3 years is a long time... a few of my college classes had us build projects in HTML CSS and JS, so I was already familiar with it. in my final college class, I built a react application. after graduating, I started from the beginning (foundations) to learning in depth React - it took me about a month, but I was learning every single day. in short, I already built projects in HTML CSS JS and React in college.
Hi Joowee, thanks for posting about your journey. I have been watching some of your videos on your channel they have been really inspiring and motivating. Hope you are doing great
I am self taught and already have a full stack web application that has one user. I have been thinking of pursuing a CS degree, and i am learning JavaScript to make the web application beautiful. I know i won't learn much but its worth. Love your content.
thanks! don't be too hard on yourself... learning to code by yourself is not an easy task you'll learn a lot as you keep moving forward and face new concepts I think a CS degree is a good idea to help you in pursuit of a job in the future
I graduated in may with a somewhat of a similar route you took. Learning from online resources such as udemy to create more of a presence on my application, but I cant seem to get a single interview no matter how many times i revise my resume.
hi, I think it's a lot more difficult now to find an entry level job compared to before... seems like a lot of people are struggling to get interviews it's hard to know without looking at your resume though
I don't think I'm a good person to ask for this because I don't consider myself a resume expert I'm sure there are other channels that specialize in giving resume advice I don't want to sound rude, but if I review your resume, then I'd also have to review everyone else that asks and I don't want to put myself in that position
I already knew the basics of html css and js from some of my college classes, so it took me ~2 weeks to go through those sections in freecodecamp and the odin project
Hi sir, i am Highschool student and working as a fullstack engineer for 1 year in my country. But my parents and friends told me that i have to go University to get lot of knowledge. Should i go to university? Can you explain why or why not 😊 oh thank you for excellent video ❤
hi, I'm actually planning to make a video about this in the future :) I think if you already have experience, then there's no need to go to a university for a CS degree. The hardest part in this field is to get a job. I don't think you should quit your job to get a CS degree the classes you take in a CS degree doesn't necessarily transfer over to work (it's more theoretical knowledge). but if you really want to get one anyway, there are online colleges that people can take while working (at least in the US) if your country has that, you can consider that option as well it's amazing that you're already working as a software engineer in high school! keep on going!
I graduated back in December, I have been mainly trying to expand my knowledge in Java development because that’s what we used in my capstone but like you did,I feel a bit lost. I’ve gotten a few interviews but no offers because I always seem to bomb the technical part of the interview, so as often as I can I try to learn more. Definitely feeling the pressure of not having a tech job this far out from graduation.
it's awesome that you're getting interviews! it seems that it's a lot more difficult to get interviews recently if you're failing the technical interviews, then doing mock interviews with others may help what kind of technical interviews have you had? is it mostly leetcode-based?
@@jooweee For the most part, no leetcode questions, mostly niche knowledge based questions about the particular language that is related to the job. An example I had recently was a company asking the difference between finally, finalize and final in Java. That was the final question in a list of their attempts to make a question that would be easier for me to answer lol Lots of questions that just have the nature, you either know it off the top of your head or you don’t. It’s just hard to prepare for questions like that, at least it has been for me But getting interviews has gotten much more difficult I would say as well. It is just good to know I’m not the only one going through hardships in this sphere.
I'm on the same page as you now but I never went to college I learned everything on udemy like that anime website working on one at the moment great video

Fact is what I like about your video You are sharing the real thing out there. It's good to have some vloggers who are genuine and among those you are one bud... Keep posting and sharing.😄 Also can you share your portfolio link. I'm a huge fan of anime and I need to see that anime website project of yours so bad.🥲
I actually need to update something on my portfolio before I post the link. the last time I updated my projects was when I was job searching :\ this is the link anime-site-gamma.vercel.app/
thank you! so much more inspiring than videos about cs geniuses who had 5 internships in college😭
oh wow first comment! I'm glad this was inspiring :)
it's hard to relate to those with a bunch of internships
I appreciate how straight forward and honesty. Thank you for sharing

it's definitely more difficult to try to find a job and create projects while working another 9-5
hope you're able to find one, you got this!
You seem super genuine and you're definitely giving me hope as an upcoming CS grad with an empty resume 😅
oof, empty resume is kinda scary 😅may need to start asap
it's more difficult now than before, but I hope you're able to find a job!

thanks! good luck :)

I also applied to mobile (iOS), back-end and full-stack positions involving (C#, python, java)!
not the right word, but your content is very 'natural'. Really like it!

The difference between 2.9GPA and 3GPA for the minimum = 0.1 a very small difference
yeah it's small, but the minimum is a requirement
Hiring for 30K in Cali is already criminal........just slavery to try asking someone to work for 30K to do nights and weekends, oh hell naw. lol
bad pay and bad working environment lol, but tbh it broadened my perspective because I didn't know there were companies like that
