honestly props that you can even admit that your previous internship was through a personal connection a lot of people that make videos like this wouldnt be caught dead admitting that.
How many Leetcode problems did you do. I struggle with Leetcode. I can’t solve mediums in 20min. Mediums take me like an hour to solve (if I can even solve the problem)
just do as much as you can and if it's a harder problem, just make sure you understand the solution. not necessarily the exact code but the type of problem so you can recognize it later!
It still amazes me how many people know and still learn C and C++ lol. Also, can anyone tell me of Swift is too niche for a person to learn as a career?
advice for males watching this: if you're a guy, you should take this video with a pinch of salt. I applied for their internship, there was a coding assessment on site, they asked 4 questions: 3 mediums, 1 hard. for females the cutoff was successful submission of 1 medium but for males it was 3 mediums. if you're a guy don't take advice from any females who has joined big tech companies after 2018, most of them are diversity hires. it is what it is, you can target startups if you don't like it, there you can truly grow as a developer. enjoy coding
There is no degree for programming. Programming is a skill not a course. It just so happens that computer science has the most content for programming although you will find some universities offer full stack development in the name of computer science
They're not mutually exclusive. or, they shouldn't be. 'the brains' required comes from a deep understanding of CS fundamentals. That understanding itself is far more important and more valuable than the skill of being able to program. Programming becomes less and less of a skill as time goes on, to the point I wouldn't even plan to learn it period. in almost 2025, if you aren't already a SWE or working to complete a degree/cert, please save yourself the trouble and make sure this is really what you want! -unless ofc you want to commit to CS or another technical field. If you don't get the CS degree, or go to a reputable school in some way to learn CS, it'll be insanely difficult to learn and gain an equivalent level of knowledge as someone who did study, it would be so impractical. A degree program is designed by experts who have decades of industry experience, knowledge about the field through research and cs being what they do every day, etc. and these professors/faculty have carefully planned how best to introduce the depth of information to someone from nothing over several years. As a self-learner, you're going up against that and putting your faith in whatever online resource/content creator to be your everything... it's not only unideal, it's pointless.
Oh totally, I'm in the same boat. I went ahead and applied directly for the CEO position at Alphabet. Now it's just a matter of acing that little interview!
