My comment mirrors that of “twocups”, as we ordered an EX30 as soon as the early model prototypes were announced last year. After it became obvious that this was like the sign over the bar: “Free beer TOMORROW!” - a sign never taken down - we bought a ‘23 BOLT EV, which suits our needs perfectly as we rarely take trips over 180 miles, 🔂, so more than enough range from our Level-2. We have an old Civic, gathering dust, “just in case.” THANKS for your trips reports, especially the “how to travel” tips. Valuable AF! ❤️👏🎯
A friend works at Volvo. This friend says that the biggest hurdles in moving manufacturing from China to EU and US is workforce regulations and software. The manufacturing processes are not designed for "normal" humans, you will get injuries and bodily issues. And the software is also a major major issue. Volvo must build and redesign the manufacturing processes and technologies.
Canceled a couple weeks ago, I could see this coming, still trying to get my $500 back! Picking up my new 2024 Polesta 2 AWD Plus-Pilot tomorrow at Noon. You can't currently beat the Polestar deals!
Rain-sensing windshield wipers and a de-icer function on the bZ4X enhance its functional design while maintaining a clean, stylish exterior even in harsh weather conditions.
Do not have a reservation but have the EX30 on a short list. Actually the new time line is fine with us. The MY 2025 is currently in production and has been for a couple of months. It has some slight hardware changes, improvements over the current model. I am looking for software weeks to improve range as well.
I canceled my day 1 reservation for an EX30. Almost bought cheap Model 3 at end of 2023, but was told the EX30 have dealer cars in Jan/Feb. after that, no contact. After tariff announcement, I ordered cheap Model Y and canceled reservation and got $500 deposit back with no problems. American made is important to me, so Model Y good since about 70% USA content and made in Fremont, CA.
West coast of the US..actually in Oregon, and went to a local Volvo dealership. Asked when I could see the EX30 in their showroom..and was told June, 2025. Disappointed. in that answer..
Reserved one right away, but it became clear that the product wasn't ready for the USA market place, so we cancelled our order and purchased a Ford Mach-e GT. The EV landscape is so volatile in all aspects of the experience, software, connectivity, charging and political will, has been and will be a challenge for everyone involved. The Tesla business model of a wholistic approach has insulated their customers from most of this uncertainty, Ford and Rivian dovetailing on toTesla's charging strategy has created a larger and stronger foothold for the consumers and marketplace. Here we go! Thank you for sharing.
I received an email Mid-November from Volvo: "We have great news: the EX30 Twin Motor Performance will be available in the US sooner than expected. The EX30 Twin Motor Performance is arriving in the US ahead of the timeline we shared with you earlier this year. You are now invited to configure your car. In order to bring EX30 to the US as quickly as possible, we prioritized the most in-demand model: the EX30 Twin Motor Performance. I ordered the Ultra. My dealer contacted me and he said it could be end of January 2025
Going downhill is actually a bit stressful if you rely on regen to make it to your next charger. If you need to hit the brakes for any reason you would be screwed.
Well, do understand that the only vehicle that doesn’t do blended breaking i.e. breaking that actually uses regen is Tesla. For example the Taycan can perform 0.4G of braking force with regen alone. Only in hard braking and slow speed braking will it use the friction brakes?.
Hello! Thanks for the informative upload! I want a EX30, but only want it delivered in the US, if the car was made in Belgium! Is that pretty much a given, or is there still a chance Volvo will deliver to me in early 2025 a China made car?
I think cancellations will be small if they deliver cars by midyear ‘25. Volvo is better than its sibling Polestar here, probably because Volvo has a factory building already available in Belgium.
What? Volvo listed "maximum horsepower" in kWh? That is double nonsense. The SI metric system units for power are Watts, or kW, MW, etc. Even then, the units for horsepower are horsepower, of course. That is like saying "maximum feet is XX meters."
EX30 isn't really a great family car, it's way too small in the back. It seems very popular among older couples though. Correct me someone if I'm wrong.
IMO, Volvo is making the right moves by communicating clearly with reservation holders, allowing refunds, and offering deals on other Volvos for customers that can't wait for the EX30. Given the curve ball they were thrown by the sudden imposition of 100% tariff, their plan to import from China is no longer viable.
Unfortunately these delays are quite common these days for a number of reasons. Whether sales are ultimately hurt depends largely on what other offerings come to the market in the next year. Kia EV3? Tesla Model A? Refreshed Chevy Bolt? We will see
I thought we heard Volvo or Geely was building a plant in SC to make the EX30. Is EX30 a model Y competitor? My complaint with Volvo styling is they waste far too much space with huge, ugly AC vents and knobs. Hidden AC vents are preferred.
Jan 2025 my VW e-Golf will be replaced by a Volvo EX30 standard range, looking forward to it. LFP battery 👌. Best selling EV in the Netherlands the last few mon5hs
I understand the desire to protect American manufacturing jobs with steep tarrifs. After all China has had a 25% tarriif on American cars for years. But how does building cars in Europe, or Mexico save those jobs? AMERICAN CAR COMPANIES MUST BUILD SMALLER CARS AT LOWER PRICES!
Volvo needs to stop saying "global automotive landscape" and directly say it's due to the new tariffs and here is the contact information for the congressperson for your state, complain to them. Also it's real rich for the US government to complain about Chinese EV subsidies while simultaneously offering $7500 in EV subsidies for North American made EVs. EU/US companies have to learn to compete instead of being all fat and happy in the status quo.
@@rcpmac Miniscule? I think not. $7500 can be 10-25% of the sale price of the vehicle and Ford has admitted during union negotiations that labor costs only account for 5% of the manufacutirng cost (other mfgs likely similar) so don’t think for a second that a $7500 subsidy for NA EVs is minuscule.
Howdy - this is some kind of CONVOLUTED, “one-for-one” thang, unique to Volvo - I looked it up a few months ago, but forget details, after cancelling our order. Too bad about the EX30, which may not happen for the U.S., as others are going to take the market, and Volvo has a minuscule # of dealers in the U.S. Anybody interested in EVs is a friend ‘ mine!

Agreed. And the EU has like a 25-30% tariff on Chinese made vehicles now.

I had a 10 km part on the Swiss highway, going 120 kmh downhill, adding 30 km to my range. Fun experiment
They are bloody good cars cheers Francie

Another great job Francie. Hybrids are working for Volvo but in pure EV's they are stumbling badly. Difficult ownership issue puts them in a bind.

It does not seem plausible, considering the current tariffs on Chinese made EVs.

our local volvo dealer is spending mad money on anti-tesla advertising. I don’t think it’s exactly winning people over to the brand.
You are really missing out on EX30 is just so good 😊❤

I will set the cruise control downhill just enough to keep regen going
As a Tesla fanboy, I think Volvos, hybrid and BEV, are the most beautiful cars on the road.
They got the styling right!

Luckily my EX30 was ordered before this import nonsense. And this is in the Netherlands

I think if you planned on buying an EV in 2024 then you will cancel your order and buy a different EV.

The US incentives are minuscule compared to the subsidies and labor costs in China. Your attitude is anti American at best.

Afternoon Francie I find it strange how Volvo is a Chinese brand but still been sold in the USA

I am appalled that any American would buy a car from a Chinese company.
Volvo is Swedish, headquartered in Sweden, designed in Sweden
