I never wash chicken, but rinse it. I'm not sure what everyone is touching when talking about cross contamination, but have the cold water running, open the package, rinse the pieces, place on a paper towel covered plate & wash my hands. It's the way my grandmother & mom have always done it, so I do it the same way. I'll even rinse meat, especially if it's in the packaging tray with one of those absorbent pads underneath. I don't like knowing the meat (or chicken) has been sitting on the pad full of juices, so rinse it off & pat it dry. I've never had a problem & it certainly doesn't change the taste or texture. Just a personal preference to rinse it first. Thanks Jen, I find your videos very inspiring & often wonder how you keep from eating some of the chicken when cutting it to put away -it looks so good. LOL

My dad was a good cook and he used to wash his whole chickens with soap and water, but he had raised the chickens, killed the chickens, and plucked them. I remember seeing the dirty water when he rinsed them. They were the best tasting I have ever had and that was 45 years ago. I don’t usually wash chicken, but probably should since who knows how clean the chicken packers are in their plants. Love your videos. You are becoming my favorite youtube person.

I have always had an aversion to ground chicken because of the slimy texture (and extra cost). Boneless skinless chicken breast in our area is about 1.99/lb but ground chicken is close to 4.00/lb. About a month ago, i tried to make my own ground chicken and it turned out fantastic! Much better texture and not slimy at all. It was very simple too. I just chunked up a couple chicken breast and threw it in the food processor and pulsed until it was the right consistency. It took maybe 10 pulses. Super quick and cheap. Made great Chicken burgers.

      WW Journey to Healthy
I will ALWAYS wash meat, if a bone saw has cut through the bone when the butcher preps it before sale, no matter what kind of meat it is: beef, chicken, turkey, pork, etc. (I just don’t like the idea of eating powdered bone (or tiny shards of bone) ON or IN my meats.)
Also, if there are tiny pin feathers (like occasionally on turkey or chicken) I’ll pluck them out, & then quickly/ & briefly rinse the meat.

I'm in the UK but it is recommended you do not wash chicken, all to do with how the little specks of water you can't see spreads and the risk of spreading bacteria. As chicken had to be thoroughly cooked anything on the skin that you would wash would be cooked off

I started placing the egg yolks and other ingredients in the plastic bag for the deviled eggs. I started doing this after using the hack for camping. You can mix the ingredients by using your hands and cut one corner for the piping. Save one bowl from being used.

I clean all meat unless it’s ground meat. Almost stop eating ground meat because I couldn’t clean it, lol. I think it’s a preference thing and for me it’s a preference. Cooking hard boiled eggs in the instant pot is steaming them. This method separates the membrane between the egg and shell from the egg. When you peel the shell, the membrane easily goes with it.

  • @ChristieJo

I have found that my eggs peel better when they are steamed. I do not have an instant pot, but I have a George Foreman veggie and rice steamer. I have chicks so my eggs are super fresh and didn't always peel when boiled. But with steam- no problem!

Just found your videos and I really like the style and good prep ideas! I actually find watching people chop veggies and other stuff to be quite calming, LOL! I have always heard that if you rinse chicken the bacteria will spray all around your sink and counter tops, whereas if you just cook the chicken as you are supposed to straight from the package it will kill anything bad that was on it anyway. :)

Hi, quick question about the zucchini bread...can I ask if maybe it's cause you used coconut flour, the reason I'm asking is because I just made a peanut butter cookie recipe with coconut flour & they came out so dry & disgusting my son & I couldn't even chew them they were literally taking the spit out of our mouths. so I've read up on this & it said that coconut flour tends to have a much dryer consistency...so I was just curious as I am fairly new to the Keto end of it, I'm good with low carb & never really played around with the almond flour or coconut flour exchange...so that's all....absolutely love your videos been a subscriber for awhile keep the meal prep & cooking videos coming! 😊

I actually worked in a UK kitchen that produced food for other people and you are not supposed to wash the chicken as it then spreads any bacteria over other things - if you just cook it then the bacteria dies whilst cooking - obviously you need to wash your hands, chopping boards etc - and I love your meal prepping - never get round to doing it for myself but I do get some great ideas - thanks

I love your videos Jennifer! So glad I stumbled upon them, as meal prep has become a necessary thing for us recently. I do want to say though, that I kind of think you owe it to the writers of that cookbook, as well as your viewers, to make that zucchini bread again using the correct number of eggs. I know you mentioned it has worked in other things before, but you do have to make allowances for the possibility that the substitution may have ruined the bread. Culinarily, and scientifically, sour cream is not a binder. I hope this observation isn't offensive, because you are so awesome!! Thanks.

It is odd though that there was no flavoring other than vanilla in this bread. That puzzles me. I've never had zucchini bread that didn't have cinnamon, or pumpkin pie spice in it.

Here I am In 2023 getting low carb inspiration! I heard the intro and the age of the kids and was like, what? The algorithm has me going all the way back! I’m here for it.

I really am enjoying watching your meal prep videos. How much time do you usually spend each weekend to complete the prep? How long does it then take you during the week to prepare dinner?

    • @Jen-Chapin
      @Jen-Chapin  5 років тому

Usually 3-4 hours then less than 30 mins during the week!

Love your videos. The bread turns that way due to the coconut flower. I had the same problem with a banana zucchini bread I love to make, turns out you have to almost triple the liquid content for it to come out bread like and moist. I just said forget it n use regular flour but thanks for being honest

I love your videos! I’m definitely going to make the meatballls because I love buffalo everything. I make deviled eggs almost every week since they are keto friendly. I like to make them with bacon, blue cheese or buffalo.

Do you buy any Penzey's seasonings? They're a WI company. I love them. They have a fantastic Greek seasoning.
