  • The EnhanceFitness program was developed in the 1990s based on research and testing conducted by the Health Promotion Research Center at the University of Washington School of Public Health and Group Health. The program is administered nationally by Senior Services. Today, EnhanceFitness is one of the most widely delivered, evidence-based, group exercise programs for older adults. The program has 45,000 participants across the U.S. and continues to grow.

I have just become a certified instructor in Enhanced Fitness and am eagerly looking forward to becoming actively involved helping the future participants that I will be assisting in improving their quality of lives. Knowing first hand of the positive impact that teaching Zumba Gold (for five years now which is geared to a lower temp and intensity than regular paced Zumba) to a varied demographic (conditions, ages, sizes etc...), the Enhanced Fitness program offers the under conditioned individual an opportunity to stay active without personally feeling embarrassed, fear, or competition. Some of the benefits beside the quantitative, and qualitative results are the sense of empowerment, socialization, development of freedom of movement, mental clarity, coordination, lessens the effects of arthritis, and provides a means to deal with the fear of falling. Staying ACTIVE as we grower older whether it is just walking, swimming or any other appropriate program or activity is a key testament for most active older adults.
