Hard as in you enjoy cats does countdowns far more or hard as in you struggle to find normal countdown videos? Honestly I have to actually scroll when searching countdown to find one that isn't related to 8 out of 10 cats but I do prefer cats
We based the title on the original (and even longer lasting) French version "Des Chiffres et Des Letters" (Numbers and Letters) rather than the British title. South Africa gave their version the name of "A Word or 2", which is different again. Just regional differences.
it was going to be called countdown but i think in Australia some other show was called countdown so that's why they called the show Letters and Numbers
Peter Hutchinson I didn't actually know that, but it does make sense - there was a long-running music program called "Countdown" which ran almost 15 years, and it may have caused confusion. So, we chose to go with a derivation of the French title instead.
Countdown used to be a programme in Australia where they counted down the top 20 chart hits for that week. Countdown is also the name for the British version of letters and numbers which has been running since 1982
in the original version in France, the game show is called 'des chiffers et des lettres' (literally means 'the numbers and the letters').. so I think it's better to call the show 'Letters and Numbers' rather than 'Countdown'..
three things: Rob could just pluralise his word for six: CHAIRS (not that it matters)(I got radicals too) round 2: I got Potence too Numbers: Why didn't one of the contestants things of (75 + 25) x 3)) - (8-7) = 299 I did 7 - 3 = 4 4 x 75 = 300 50/25 = 2 8/2 = 4 300 - 4 = 296
@billiefan2000, if you google 4OD you will get channel 4's website, there you can watch any of the programmes at any time, so you can get your fix of countdown
It's not a copy as such it's the Australian version of Countdown. It was renamed because here in Australia there is a long running music program called Countdown.
I used to watch this show all the time, but it's hard coming back to it after Cats does Countdown
Hard as in you enjoy cats does countdowns far more or hard as in you struggle to find normal countdown videos? Honestly I have to actually scroll when searching countdown to find one that isn't related to 8 out of 10 cats but I do prefer cats
My results:
*1.* 6 - *CHAIRS*
*2.* 5 - *ERECT*
*3.* 0 out (296) - ((50 * 8) - (75 + 25) - 7) + 3
Very different from the British version that I'm used to.
This episode aired in Australia on my 31st birthday and I live in and from America.
The most elegant solution, according to my computer program:
50+(75+7)*3 = 296
Don't know how your program goes about this, but mine found the most disgusting solution.
((50-25)*(75+8)-3)/7 = 296
One of the best game dhows ever on TV. Why did it come to an end?

I LOVE THIS SHOW.
They should use the Countdown music for the 30 secs. It makes you feel like you're trying to diffuse a bomb :¬D
@Bu8956 I wasn't disputing the rules. They are the same here. I just think it limits the number of possible words.
@oaklandfan2k9 i wish they had a aussie cable channel with all aussie cable tv shows. i btw am a american and fan of letters and numbers
50 times 8 = 400
25 plus 75 = 100
7 minus 3 = 4
100 plus 4 = 104
400 minus 104 = 296

Peter2571 ,
Holy crap, did I just discover I was good at scrabble? I got Radicals and Percent.
i pee on the side of the bowl to be stealth
@TVFILMBUFF Except ours wasn't exact. Yours features the same set (almost).
i like how the address bar at the end says vaaaaaaaaaaaaaag
And how do you not get 299 instead of 300?
three things: Rob could just pluralise his word for six: CHAIRS (not that it matters)(I got radicals too)
round 2: I got Potence too
Numbers: Why didn't one of the contestants things of (75 + 25) x 3)) - (8-7) = 299
I did 7 - 3 = 4
4 x 75 = 300
50/25 = 2
8/2 = 4
300 - 4 = 296
Yes, I know that, but it's an actual copy.... set et al. Not the clock music, though.
25x8=200+75+(3x7)=296
I got radicals too
I got 297
50*7 = 350
350+25 = 375
375-75 = 300
300-3 = 297
E.O.E.R.C.T.P.Q.N
If " Q " change to I
then it can make Reception
I would've had erection for 8 lol
75*(7-3) = 300. 300-(8*(25/50)) = 296
There was only one R, so not quite.
25*8=200 + 75=275+(7*3)=296
That's how I did it
Receptor 8 letters
(75/25)+7+3=13
50-13=37
37x8=296
7-3 = 4
4*75 = 300
50/25 = 2
8/2 = 4
300-4 = 296
what street?
your kidding me? i got 296 by halfway through. Used ((25 x 8)+75)+(3 x 7)=296
It's countdown
What a carbon copy of Countdown.
lily lookin fine...
Why don't Aussies call it countdown?
because they refer to the original French title...
25*8=200
200+75=275
275+(7*3)=296
Our Rachel trumps over Lilly lol
@billiefan2000, if you google 4OD you will get channel 4's website, there you can watch any of the programmes at any time, so you can get your fix of countdown
I got 299 Lol I beat them!
100
check YOUR spelling. spelled is spelled wrong.
That's just a copy of countdown!!!!
It's not a copy as such it's the Australian version of Countdown. It was renamed because here in Australia there is a long running music program called Countdown.
It's based on the original French version, not the British.
