    Description
This video is from 8mm films taken on a trip with Karl Rasmussen to Central Iowa in 1976.
We visited various locations including Marshalltown and Des Moines.
The video of the C&NW train on the Mainline was taken from the Fort Dodge Des Moine and Southern bridge over the C&NW.
Marshalltown is on the Chicago & Northwestern (now Union Pacific RR) double tracked main line from Chicago to Omaha.
This was also a point where C&NW crossed the Minneapolis & St Louis and the Chicago Great Western. Two diamonds were located West of the Depot.
This was the mainline of the M&StL and ran from Minneapolis to Marshalltown to Peoria Illinois. The Minneapolis & St. Louis had a major shop here which built by a predecessor, the Iowa Central Railroad.
The Chicago Great Western line from Chicago to Oelwein Iowa and on St Paul, Omaha and Kansas City. The CGW track here was the Oelwein to Kansas City line.
Des Moines was the center point for the Rock Island Railroad in Iowa. The line from St Paul to Kansas City (which later was called “the C&NW Spine Line” ), crossed the Rock Island main line from Chicago to Omaha.
There is also a film clip of a Milwaukee Road freight train in the Bitterroot Mountains in Montana in 1976. The train had 3 General Motors SD-40s in front and a remotely controlled SD-45 in the middle of the train (early use of Distributed Power).

The last part looks like the Milwaukee Road in Montana.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, the music is not optimal. I got the films converted at CostCo - they have a great sub-contractor that does it without flicker, however, the music choices are limited.
