Great video, been watching your stuff a lot for the past couple months, always leave learning something ,I’m currently 21 and work at production shop as a prepper, could you make a video on what you would have done differently when you first started out or really just tell us how you got to where you are now. Hoping to be a top level painter like you kandyman
I'd like to see this same type of repair but on a more challenging color like champagne, gold or medium silver. It is nice to see different techniques like your blend-in technique.
I have been painting for 10yrs. Every now and then i go back through a couple of your videos as well as Brian from paint societies videos before i start certain jobs
Great jobs Kandy man and thanks to share your knowledge and experience with newbie and old people in this industry because always learning something new especially when a lot of us didn't have someone to direct or explain very well how is the easy and better ways to do some jobs I been painting for 12 years and I'm just leaning new trick couples years ago in the paint from watching videos like this, a lot of us appreciated you share anything can be helpful to us and thank to other guy do videos like you and share with us , I thinks the new generation have more and better information to start fine in this path
Love the back blending technique. Will definitely incorporate that into my blending. Keep going man. Appreciated greatly. Pray for your continued progression in a wild world...
Very interesting tutorial Kandy Man as I haven't seen many videos like this before for a small blend so it's a very useful video, great to see the DV1 for clear as well👌👍John UK
Kandy man always killing it🤙🏻 thanks for taking the extra time n effort to show us the insight of a true quality shop, humble but confident to keep em body guys within the line 🤣
You do great work and alot of it.. its joyful seeing your videos and can say myself being in the trade from high-school to now 10 years how much goes into it 👍
@@kandyman5315Happy Memorial Day weekend!! If the repair area of the door panel featured on this video would have been about an inch away from the door edge side that is closest to the front fender, would the blending process have been the same? Sadly, had my first burn-through ( clear / base coat) while polishing to prep for a ceramic coating on a mint 2000 BMW E46 coupe in Alpine White and man I am frustrated. I assume that I would mimic what you did with the damaged and untouched substrate area and ensuring to keep the repair at a minimum. But in my case, being the repair area is so close to the edge of the panel next to the front fender, how should the blend be processed? Darn, I wish I could send you an image so you could briefly review and provide your thoughts / feedback. Regards, Mark
@@kandyman5315Since there is no need to repair any defects on the burn-through can I just spray a bit of sealer instead of primer onto the burn-through area and proceed with a wet bed on the entire panel, base coat and clear.
nice work sir. if you wont mind my asking sir. is it possible normal clear coat to do the bonding? here in philippines we are not having clear base. so ive been thinking this long time ago. because i will be painting my toyota innova 2019 model. i purchase also ws and ls series 2 from iwata. practicing how to perfect the gun settings. thanks.
Love the vids amazing quality of work always, your truly in sync with the paint system, drives me mad how you are making it look easy, when it's such a stressful job ..is the dv1 1.2 your go to gun for clear.. even if your doing full resprays..👍
Kandyman! That’s to easy, dark color center of the door, do a video with a silver or gold and 6” blend room. I’m just frustrated, because that’s the type of repairs we have to do at our shop, basically no such thing as a blend on certain jobs. Love your videos, you rock! P.s. ever thought about doing a podcast where painters can share tips and tricks? I have a bunch of unorthodox tricks.
There is a body man at my job that will panel prime a door for damage that small. I told him he is gonna have to start bringing his doors over prepped with 320
Yes, that BMW is going to scrap after the first owner for sure. Imagine the maintenance burden on all the electronic crap in it. "Oh sir you need a new door control panel, that will be $5000 plus labor and programming" After a few years it will be "Sorry sir, parts are no longer available for this car" This is industrial waste at the worst. I own two older BMW X5's and some parts are getting hard to find for them (E53 and E70) so imagine something like this with only a very small production run. Love the painting tips though.
Honest, to the point and intelligent. Nice to see a pro loving his work.
Thank you
I am a retired painter with over 40 years in the trade. One is never to old to learn new tricks . Keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel.
Thanks 👍
The door turned out great, and that BMW😍
Thanks for showing the BMW that is a sweet whip for sure!
Yes it is thanks for watching 👊
Loving the video what we call in the industry Small Repair Area Technique or SMART for short.

Your welcome
Great work.. exactly how I do those.. straight to base is the money shot
Great tips. Thanks!
The wet bed eliminates posable sand pilling on a blend, nice work, very informative.
Valuable techniques. Excellent.
my favorite paint channel. love all the tips
Appreciate it 👊
I love this channel. I like the shop, the paint booth, and the inside tips by a master of his craft.
Glad you enjoy it!

Very valuable video. Thank you!
Perfect!
Good job..thanks for sharing
great video!
What is the mix of the wet bed? you mentioned it is a clear and base mix. Thank you for the video.
I mix it 10%
by the way. my denim pad order still cant pursue. it says they dont know how to compute my bill sending here in philippines. thanks again.
Greetings from BULGARIA :)!
Could you share what is the clear coat you have use to get this really shiny finish. Tx
Ppg 2021 clear
Do you have to put a, wet bed on before each coat? Or just the first? How does it work?
Just once
That can be done to if necessary
@@kandyman5315 great thanks
If I can ask how long have you bin in the trade.. and how much time it took where you were confident in painting at this caliber
28 years in this trade, this trade is always changing so it keeps me on my toes .👊
You do great work and alot of it.. its joyful seeing your videos and can say myself being in the trade from high-school to now 10 years how much goes into it 👍
I would like to know if the colour is pearl white in this case, how it going to be handled
Same way
What material is being sprayed for the wet bed? Is it thinned out clear coat?
Base clear
Did u use a interface pad on the sander? ? Thank you
Both
Is a wet bed another name for a blending agent? I have heard that some use slow reducer as a blender/wet bed.
Any input will be appreciated.
It is a clear paint

Base coat blending clear
So impressive. You probably save a ton of product that way.

Dv1 is my go to gun 1.3 for full resprays
Sorry for being annoying, so would you prefer the dv1 over the supernova for resprays or atomization for laying the clear flat..
Can't go wrong with either one those are the best of the best
Thanks again ..
Is this a premix wet bed, or are you mixing it? I'm still solvent based. What would your mix be for that?
10 percent water reduction
How long do you wait after applying the wet bed to apply your basecoat?
The sooner the better

Sounds great!
I was curious, for just a small dent, wouldn’t it have been a lot cheaper and faster to use a PDR guy?
Paint was damaged
Gotcha. It turned out awesome! You do really nice work. What clear do you use and what gun?
What clear do you use
Ppg 2021 clear
Did you put paint on the whole door since you hit it with 600 everywhere?
No, just cover the repair area
Why no PDR instead?
Paint was scratched
What do you run the 3m gun at for psi?
15 psi
That with the 3m regulator?
3m regulator feels choked...like 30 psi on that gun would be 20 on any other
Try a different regulator at 15
Have you used the dv1s?
Yes great gun
Why not use a scuffing agent on the rest of the blend area instead of DAing with 800 grit??
Because 800 knocks down the orange peal ,and better adhesion , and helps with the clear laying down nicely.
I like things dry but is another way as well.
There is a body man at my job that will panel prime a door for damage that small. I told him he is gonna have to start bringing his doors over prepped with 320

if i sprayed clear that fast man the job would be dry and peely and just uneven
