I purchased and performed this upgrade on my RP6000f’s. Danny’s crossover design does not radically alter the original sonic signature of the speaker. There are actually fewer parts than the original crossover. It does reduce the sensitivity a little as it removes the midrange dip, balances the impedance, and reduces the foreword nature of the high frequencies. Prior to the upgrade, certain male voices seemed hollow and distant. After the mod all vocals are well defined, clear, and balanced. I find the bass in the modified speakers to be tighter, and overall post modification performance to be very satisfying! Perhaps the greatest improvement Is in the imaging. Prior to the modification the listener’s “sweet spot” was narrow and elusive. Any vertical or horizontal movement off axis would create substantial changes in sonic quality. Now, dispersion and imaging are more evenly distributed creating a broader soundstage for multiple listeners. To my ear, these speakers are now very pleasing to listen to. Danny has managed to preserve the live “Klipsch” sound that originally drew me to this speaker. He just made it better!
Have the rp 8000f and combined them with canton 409 speakers which emphasize the midrange. This combo is magnificent and it totally neutralizes the midrange dip or hole of the klipsch speakers. No need to modify them and loose my warranty. A plus is that the sound is much fuller and the soundstage is a lot better than with a single pair of klipsch speakers. Try it with speakers you might have laying around. You'll be astonished about what you can accomplish without tweaking the klipsch speakers.
It's funny you mentioned that, I recently had the Klipsh RP8000F II, and while they sounded very clean and detailed, I thought they were lacking in the mid range for vocals although they seemed fairly neutral sounding--instruments sounded very good. They also lacked bass. For the last eight years I've had a Naim Muso (Gen 1), and I used a new Yamaha R-N2000A Wi-Fi network receiver with the Klipsch. It occurred to me I should be able to create an aggregate device to play the same signal to the speakers through the Yamaha, also the Muso wireless speaker to use it as a center speaker, as it seems to have a fuller sound with more bass. I was able to get it working one time but after that first instance I was not able to get them to both play at the same time again. not sure why. With the right balance it did achieve somewhat of the effect I wanted that one time it was working. I returned the RP8000F II and purchased a Cornwall IV, which is what I'm listening to now. I've only had them set up for about 12 or 13 days so I'm still adjusting things, slight position changes, different music sources, using the Yamaha Pure Direct mode, which I think sounds better, etc.
I have to chuckle a little. I spent 6 months doing research, running around to various audio shops listening to a ton of speakers. I buy the speakers that I like and someone thinks they sound terrible. Sorry, speakers are very subjective and if Klipsch wanted them to sound different they would. I happen to like Klipsch the way they are and they’re made in the USA. Thanks

I just finished the upgrade. Well, maybe Danny`s graphs show a minor difference before and after the update, but let me tell you that the upgrade opens op a totally new dimension and the difference in listening experience is night and day! I`m stunned and left without words literally. Was just considering selling my Atoll IN200 signature as I didn`t like the sound at all combined with those 6000F`s. Especially at low volumes the only thing present was high mids and treble. Sounded cheap and not balanced at all. The off-ax was ruining the listening experience. Cancellation was obvious at almost any position to the speakers. From the very first minute I started listening after the upgrade I got goosebumps all over. Clarity is superb. It feels like someone gave me a new pair of ears or connected my brain directly to amplifier. Soundstage is leaving listeners speachless. I remember visiting fyne audio`s room with some creed stuff connected to it a few months ago. The speakers were 30K per pair and the rest of the gear was around 20K. I was blown away by the way the music was projected. It fell like a new dimension was opened up and the overall listening experience kept everybody mouse quiet in the room. Well, now I have the same experience in my own listening room. I can not even imagine how they can even get better after the burn-in. I`m in love with this upgrade and now I fully believe and understand that a technical 'perfect' speaker is a step towards perfection in the listening experience. Stunning job from GR research.

@@MrsZambezi Yes, Danny the fraudster is NOT an engineer. Not even close. He loves to put down speakers that sell the most because this is how he makes his living. He will very quickly become very rich and sell his company in 5 years. Fools just keep sending him perfectly good speakers for illusive upgrades.

Let me do the honours: Sand cast resistors are mildly inductive and attainable in +/- 10% or +/- 5% tolerance bands at best, hence will vary response curves between pairs of drivers to a greater extent than metal film or metal oxide resistors, which come in +/- 1% bands and are non-inductive. Not sure if I should go into detail on what inductance does in a circuit. Steel has much higher resistance than silver, copper or even brass and being ferromagnetic will induce a stronger magnetic field opposing the flow of alternating current with an artifact of hysteresis, not hysteria, thrown in. Polyester caps have much better characteristics than electrolytics, but inferior to polypropylene caps. Tan Δ is about an order of magnitude higher, but also temperature and frequency characteristic is poor compared to PP. Danny may have his foibles, but he is very talented speaker builder in my humble opinion.
@@MrsZambezi can we stop with the "it's not audible" 🐂 💩. If you're strictly talking tone, you would be correct. Not much is gonna change, the speaker drivers are doing the talking and if they are receiving similar frequency range to reproduce, you won't hear a tone change. What does change is timing, precision, and tolerance. If you don't have a proper setup, you won't hear any appreciable change. Every change I've heard has been in the soundstage and in the dynamics. That being said, I'm no engineer. I'm a DIY enthusiast and i listen to everyone objectively. Danny's advice (sprinkled with a little bit of Paul at PS Audio) have transformed my system for the better more than anyone else. I've built my own speakers, interconnects, speaker wire, and power cables. Everything matters and everything has had an appreciable change for the better. Before you shout "confirmation bias" just know that I'm smarter than that. If the monoprice cables performed better than my custom cables, i would've immediately abandoned my work and gone back. I'm all about making my system the best it can be without spending a fortune. Cheers.
@@MrsZambezi If you pay enough attention to your setup, quality of your source and amplification and condition of their constituents, electrolytic capacitors, relays, pots, selectors, spindles, alignment, bias, calibration, interconnects, sockets and whatnot; if you apply similar level of perseverance to your speakers, crossovers, internal damping, positioning, wiring and room treatment, you will eventually end up with a chain effortlessly resolving minute details. It's almost like lifting numerous curtains to reveal a stage, layers deep and wrap around wide, in a fashion headphones cannot match. For best results use a well made SACD player, one which does not convert data to PCM internally prior to processing, and gift it a Mo-Fi or Analogue Productions fodder. Now, obviously not everyone is inclined to invest time and money into studying circuit theory, building their own lab and experimenting for ages and that's where Danny comes in, basic DIY skills required only.
Think you are all sadly bitter! A man with extensive experience in speaker design, construction, building and repairing who uses all this knowledge to help others. Of course, he gets paid for his work. He can not do charity. There are always improvements to be made on the majority of products manufactured. Take my old Beetle, which had diagonal tires as standard and when I got on radial tires, my Beetle became a go-kart. No sliding or rocking in the curves. An upgrade really worth every penny. So it is for the ear when the music sounds even better from my speakers and even more expensive speakers after Danny's upgrade. He straightens the roller coaster to a comfortable and comfortable wave. Worth every octave.
I did the upgrade and the improvement was immediate. Perfect tone balance and more clarity overall thanks to better crossover components and better cabinet damping ( No Rez is surprisingly efficient and I re-used only half of the original white dampening material ). What I didn’t expect is to find the speakers being simply more agreeable to listen to and that came as a good surprise; I used to use an equalizer to flatten the response ( that was desperately needed as per my measurements ! ) but that was just a bandaid, apparently. Congratulations Danny for the crossover design !
The loudspeaker has still the same sound signature with the bright tweeter and a dynamic fast and “forward” sound. I still need -3dB on the treble ! …. and I use dynamic loudness. It is not any softer ! Read what Jeff Hicks wrote below. It feels more detailed while less fatiguing but mainly the sound is CLEANER and that is maybe why they they are more agreeable to listen too.

Have you ever had “Official Talks” with any of the major speaker manufacturers about improving their speakers? How much would it increase the price of a speaker to remove magnetic (steel) binding posts and hardware? For me the capacitors at least would be the best bang for the buck. For 20$ per speaker at their purchasing power would not affect pricing of the finidshed speaker greatly!

Hey Danny, your mike is a lite bit hot at the top end needs to be brought in level. Now that i have build my own speakers with good parts in it i can tell you it´s on your end ;) .I was surpriesed what a diffrence makes encloser, caps,baffleshape,damping,port position... Actually now its the 5th pair what i have build and i have to admit the crossover makes the speaker and yes quality parts!!
I have often wondered when you were going to do a 2.5 way on some of these speakers. Too bad you couldn't just make a whole new front baffle and really fix some of these issues. As always another great fix!!!
that all sounds good.. but sound & perfrence doesn't come from measurements & yet I have the 8000f & they sound beautiful. great imaging.. separation deep tight bass excellent mids & highs. can't tell u have many of my friends loved these. they had more expensive speakers as did I.. after hearing these several friends sold there's & purchased 8000..
Some still use spreadsheets. Many more use "software" which is basically similar spreadsheets wrapped up in a front-end/GUI. I do love excel, but using fixed value components and 20th century formulae for these designs isn't helping anyone. So why do they do it? Legacy. The "star" engineer would have used said spreadsheet when they designed a bestselling model. And it stuck. It's the magic formula, new guys may NOT tamper with it. That's pretty much it!
@@vikassm it is hard to believe when Holmeimulse and ViitiuxCAD are for free to measure and design proper crossover. Ok maybe for commercial use one may need to pay small fee...

Conclusion: Klipsh doesn't consider phase matching when designing their speakers. Any phase matching you find is pretty much coincidence. Which is really weird for a company whose engineers have been doing this for so long. With floor standing speakers, I really wish he would extend the tests down to 20 or 40 Hz. And there's been a couple of speakers that have very intriguing responses around 20KHz that made me wish I could see the response curve above it. Most already have that downward trend that we all know what it looks like. But every once in a while, we see measurements that makes me wonder what it does above 20KHz. And once again, you managed to smooth it out without major SPL loss. Nice work.
Electrodynamic loudspeakers of today, have not improved very much since the nineteen sixties. Actually , many of them had a flatter frequency response and a more neutral sound back then.
I wish you would measure the latest versions of these models. I returned a pair of Klipsch RP8000F II, which actually sounded very clean and linear as far as I could tell although they lacked bass, and the fullness or richness of tone I want for vocals, but they seemed very linear to my ear, and clean sounding, especially for instruments. However, I returned them and purchased the Cornwall VI, which are much fuller sounding, but you only recently measured and took apart the Cornwall III, which I believe is the most problematic of the four versions, so it may not represent the Cornwall IV, except perhaps for some general things like phase issues, steel terminals, and maybe bracing or damping inside, but I am curious if those were address or fixed, and to what degree in the latest version.
I'm curious that the spectral decay is so clean out of the box but yet No rez is required for cabinet resonance. That cabinet resonance should show up in the spectral decay as ringing right?
'With your head on the floor, the tweeter will be in phase' 🤣🤪 But it seems to me Klipsch are close to it being a far, far-better speaker for a not too-far extra cost

I reckon kits concieved by a very competent designer who's actually 'into' audio reproduction & not restrained by corporate "bean counters" will get you the best cost/sound- quality ratio possible, just for starters you save 50% mark-up from a dealer or importer of any commercial product, then there's the hidden cost-cutting to consider. After owning at least 1 of every common speaker design... (no plasma-tweeters) ...& thier hybrid counterparts of... Ive already decided for O.B. speaker's to be my next & last speaker, (esp' when reasoning with the laws of physics & all my past speaker designs experience & what people "in the know" say about O.B. I've often gazed at those tower speakers sometimes standing behind Danny, the tall point-source O.B. towers with central ribbon[?] tweeters) ..& i think they'll very likely suit me fine. If money wasn't an issue in this time (esp' as 1 of my vintage 15" Tannoy drivers started a horrible magnet-rubbin 2 months ago, at only 53 yrs old!) ...i do believe i'd have a pair of those sitting in front of me right now. (I 4get their name) It must be peace of mind to know that you yourself have properly soldered every connection with a decent contact area in your speakers a good quality dielectric'd wire. Ive seen some sloppy work unopened from the factory till myself in electrical repair jobs. P.S. I once came across brand-new Wharf' Diamond tower speakers in late 80's 'ish, where one of the speaker's bass/mid driver's connectors was pushed-on out of phase with the other speaker's bass-mid, i'd checked my friends leads & connections as being o.k. but to convince him to let me unscrew the backs of both his new speakers, after telling him there was something wrong but most probably easily fixable inside... (he knew nothing of 'phasing') ...i had to go & return with 2 test records both with phase-test tracks, to prove to him what i felt was the case upon 1'st hearing his new speakers ..virtually no real bass at a toed-in sweet-spot triangle & i walked about & heard bass only existed properly with an ear near any one of the side-walls ...& as new from Wharfdale via Richer-Sounds (a return, i bet) Do enjoy your new speakers
@@The-Spotlight-Kid I do dream about buying one of the the Klipsch speakers ( used) I built Nelson Pass amps . Class A Alfa J , F5 Tubo V3 , pre-amp BA3 , line stage, WHAMMY headphone amp. All class A Next building a phono stage amp from Nelson Pass design, End goal build CD and DAC from modified hoped up design using existing chassis inners from others manufacturers. I’ll never buy From a store new equipment again. For the price I can build it so much better and sound to.
@@SweCrue You can tilt them till the center of mass reaches the fulcrum ^-^. I didn't know that they are tilted. I do this with my PC speakers also for more details in the high.
LoL, I did this. I had the same thought. I cut up an aluminum 3 sided ruler for under the front feet on carpet which tilted the speaker further back and remeasured for a slight better response curve along with Audyssey's magic. It worked so well I ordered matching paint for them. Not as good as the upgrade but,
I bought these speakers and took one listen to tracks that I know very well. There were huge holes in the sound and in my experience the drop in the low end 100-200hz range was just missing. I returned them after listening for one day.. Ended up with some Tekton Lore's and they are lovely to listen to right out of the box. Paper cone 10" driver and audax gold tweeter for the win!
@Uncle Bob If I can hear the speaker is missing something and sounds like a hole in the music, then it is big enough to be "huge" to me. I was indeed listening way closer than 3m. And definitely plenty of people listen that closely. lol

The RP-5000 would measure really good and be close to the Rp-6000, I found that the 4.5" and 5.25" sound better than the RF- 8" woofers (RF line) The new RP tweeters are 100x better than the RF-line . IMO the RF-42ii had the best tweeter for that RF- line.
I have a NAD C 316BEE Integrated Amplifier with Phono and use a Project Debut Carbon Turntable, looking to purchase a pair of speakers for around $1000. I was going to purchase the Klipsch RP6000F's but this video has deflated me. What speaker would you recommend? Quality parts, quality balance, etc. Are Bowers and Wilkens better? I don't have a lot of time to investigate which speakers to purchase and I don't live in a metro area where I can sample a whole bunch of speakers. Good Day. I have Polk model TSi500 speakers about 15 years old. Yes I know, Cheep by comparison but I think they sound as good as or better than some or many Klipsch speakers and mine have nice bass. I like the Forte IV speakers as well or better than their other speakers short of mortgaging the house. Just no way that I can justify spending that much on those speakers, even though I could. Ever look at speakers that average people can afford to buy? I just found this web site, so I'm likely very behind. Thanks and Very Enjoyable.
Don't you think Klipsch does that on purpose to catch the buyers ear on the showroom floor to highlight their speakers against the competition ? They don't care about long term listening fatigue once the speaker is home, they just care about the sale.
James Larson from Audioholics measured the 8000F model outside and it didn't have any dips in the frequency response or phase issues. Danny had the same issues with that model. The most precise measurements are always done either outside or in an anechoic chamber. Danny Richie is full of cheese, but he pretends to be an engineer who knows it all.
Actually the guy from Audioholics that made that review those measurements told me that his measurements matched mine when taken in the same way. They just choose to to publish them. And my gated time window measurements are the same as if they were measured in an anechoic chamber.
I wonder if making the bottom woofer network a 2nd order and bringing it's frequency point up an octave would bring up the 300hz dip while also keeping the acoustic centers to the tweeter acceptable?
I tried it, but the cap value need to pick it up down that low is large and causes an impedance short. The slight dip there is due to the baffle step loss and also in an area that typically increases some with room gain and reflections. So it is not too bad.
My guess is Klipsch is popular because they're the best speaker you can get at a big box store? To a person used to sound bars, tiny surround systems and cheap computer speakers, they're the best thing ever.
You probably have a long list of planned upgrade but would you mind analyzing and upgrading a pair of NHTs? And on the other end of the spectrum I would love to see you take apart Legacy Audio speakers
Klipsch aren’t designed to be flat, linear, or warm, on average. They’re designed to be slightly pushed up in the highs and lows on most of their speakers. Especially under $2000. The average person who isn’t a true audiophile won’t care. Many like that. And there are some audiophiles who like a more energetic speaker, as well.
I agree, I believe that marketing wants that pushed highs and lows because they will demo better in any AB test in a typical big box retailer to your typical unsophisticated customers
I frequently get people asking me if it sucks to compete with ADT and Xfinity and the like when installing alarm systems. I tell the truth when I say those companies are why I don’t need a Sales Team.

It would be cool to se you do DALI's older series Helicon MK2. That was succeeded by Epicon series. The price was DRAMATICALLY increased. But is the audio that much better to justify the cost increase? I'm not so sure.
At the cross-over point (the dip), I would think that if the woofer & tweeter are in-phase that this would be double the power at that point, which is ~87dB for both the woofer and the tweeter. If you double the power, then you add 3dB, which puts you close to where the combined freq response is. But you mentioned that 6dB should be added. What am I not getting here? Thanks for posting.
Hi, great videos! I hope you get a Yamaha NS10 monitor, to see how they are build and measured. They have legendary short transient response (although no bass). Also, I really hope to see how electrostatic speakers measure on your equipment. :) Thanks!
I'll just say this, it's not a matter of him being the only person who can design a good loudspeaker because that's not the case and it's just simply not true. All he is doing is simply showing models from any and every manufacturer that people send in to him that could benefit from a correction to the factory, mass produced speaker. That's it. Now when it comes to his DIY kits, I think it's simple as well. He's a nuthead audiophile who appreciates great sounding music and he knows what makes a good speaker system. So when you take his experience and his knowledge and a no compromise approach to cost, he can take a well designed driver, put it into a well-designed cabinet or baffle, with a well designed crossover and you get an accurate speaker. Your next challenge becomes the environment in which the speaker is contained.
The NX-Studio, Is the priced of 899-1026 include flatpack? I am trying to figure out, the individual drivers are about 450, wandering what other add up to the 899?
That does not include the flat pack. The rest of the cost are the top level crossover parts, wiring, tube connectors and two sheets of no Rez that come with that model.

You're not likely at his level so you don't need to worry about his upgrades. But don't make the claim that you shouldn't listen to him??? My guess is that you are a Klipsch lover, and I have nothing against that. I own some Klipsch myself. As many many people do because of their reach and market share. It only makes sense that he gets sent a lot of different Klipsch speakers to see if there is room for improvement because so many of us own them. If you took someone who probably spent a buttload of money on a Bowers and Wilkins, they're probably not going to be too quick to send them to someone like Danny because they already spent the money on such a high-end company that there shouldn't be any need to improve on them right?
hi can you explain why so many speakers have twin woofers? eg i have wharfedale 9.CM and it has 2 woofers. surely the interference will cancel out a lot of sound? thanks
The wavelengths that those dual woofers are playing are quite long. So for them to cancel each other out they need to be much further apart creating a much longer time delay.

They are identical to the 8000f except for the tweeter ('vented' in the 8000 vs traditional), some cosmetics and maybe minimal dimendional differences because of the feet. Crossovers near identical as well. The new tweeter is considered an actual upgrade by most.

@@bric7244 I wouldn't worry too much. I have rp150pm (with the 'old' tweeter) and rp 6000f (nev one). They're both great and i actually switch between them for stereo.
Hey mate. Have you done the bm6a dynaudio? I hate em. They're in my studio but they just don't give me what i need to mix. Can't hear compression well or mids and even the highs lack detail. And here in Australia they were around 2 grand.
I know 50% of the total costs of the speaker and 50% more for the upgrade will have an enormous impact in sound quality. But why is klipsch doing this, I bet it is to make money and as much as they can. I didn't espect this from klipsch they real can make good speakers. For those who wanted to upgrade it like Danny made you won't regret it. But why buy these speakers in the first place I would go for a much better design. Nice work Danny the messurement are speaking enough. Better then listening ears on the floor🔊😄😂
It probably because a a good set of speakers with a great crossover is out of budget for most consumers. Danny's crossover alone would probably add a thousand dollars at retail or more.
@@rothgartheviking858 I know I have upgraded amps that's the same way. If diy and don't add loads of extra like a high personal salary. I upgraded amps from mkt caps to mkp's and one of the better brands yes the Amp overshoot its previous performance. I find that Danny's cost are margen. And give a enormous sound improvement.
I just bought a pair of these from Crutchfield scratch and dent. I've had for a few months. I couldn't put my finger on it, but always kept thinking something was off with them. Did you actually buy this upgrade kit and install it? I pretty much spent all I had on these. Wondering if it's worth saving for the upgrade kit. ??
The worst sound of a speaker is a fully flat frequency response.Then it becomes monitor and not a music loudspeaker. Some frequency dips are desirable from manufacturers for more pleasant music sound.For example the BBC dip.I can not believe that klipsch didn't know the dip frequency. So there is a big chance you made worst the speaker with the crossover changes you made
Personally I want my speakers to reproduce the sound that the audio engineer at mixing/mastering studio was hearing and what he tried to do with the material. That's why I choose Genelec speakers. If the music sounds bad, then the music is bad. No mercy for bad audio quality.
@@Moukula The problem with the Genelec speakers is that even though the frequency response may be fairly well balanced, they will smear most of the signal and you still never hear a lot of the details in the recording.
The real klipsch speakers is the heritage line. Entry level is heresy, then forte, Cornwall, la scalla, and the top of line klipschorn. Still handmade in hope Arkansas and built to last a lifetime. My klipschorns were built in 1979 and though they still sound awesome, am updating crossover and drivers.
I had a La Scalla in here several months back. They were actually riddled with problems top to bottom. I was going to design an upgrade for them that straightened them out and fixed the problems, but then the guy heard our NX-Treme's and after that, it was all he wanted.

It wasn't even a fancy cable either. No geometry whatsoever. Basic 16awg cable left over from my LED for the pool and some chifi connectors but boy did it open the soundstage up, seperation of notes, weight to the notes,etc... Blew my mind how much of a difference $60 in parts changed my listening station. And these were 12 ft cables too!
I'd really like to see a ranking on your website of 1) how speakers compare as-is, and 2) how good they become after the kit is applied.

I purchased and performed this upgrade on my RP6000f’s. Danny’s crossover design does not radically alter the original sonic signature of the speaker. There are actually fewer parts than the original crossover. It does reduce the sensitivity a little as it removes the midrange dip, balances the impedance, and reduces the foreword nature of the high frequencies. Prior to the upgrade, certain male voices seemed hollow and distant. After the mod all vocals are well defined, clear, and balanced. I find the bass in the modified speakers to be tighter, and overall post modification performance to be very satisfying! Perhaps the greatest improvement Is in the imaging. Prior to the modification the listener’s “sweet spot” was narrow and elusive. Any vertical or horizontal movement off axis would create substantial changes in sonic quality. Now, dispersion and imaging are more evenly distributed creating a broader soundstage for multiple listeners. To my ear, these speakers are now very pleasing to listen to. Danny has managed to preserve the live “Klipsch” sound that originally drew me to this speaker. He just made it better!
Same feeling I had with the RP-8000F upgrade.
Looks like Klipsch is listening to Danny. New generation of RP speakers has eliminated the midrange dip and tamed the highs. Also braced the cabinets.
Have the rp 8000f and combined them with canton 409 speakers which emphasize the midrange. This combo is magnificent and it totally neutralizes the midrange dip or hole of the klipsch speakers. No need to modify them and loose my warranty. A plus is that the sound is much fuller and the soundstage is a lot better than with a single pair of klipsch speakers. Try it with speakers you might have laying around. You'll be astonished about what you can accomplish without tweaking the klipsch speakers.
It's funny you mentioned that, I recently had the Klipsh RP8000F II, and while they sounded very clean and detailed, I thought they were lacking in the mid range for vocals although they seemed fairly neutral sounding--instruments sounded very good. They also lacked bass. For the last eight years I've had a Naim Muso (Gen 1), and I used a new Yamaha R-N2000A Wi-Fi network receiver with the Klipsch. It occurred to me I should be able to create an aggregate device to play the same signal to the speakers through the Yamaha, also the Muso wireless speaker to use it as a center speaker, as it seems to have a fuller sound with more bass. I was able to get it working one time but after that first instance I was not able to get them to both play at the same time again. not sure why. With the right balance it did achieve somewhat of the effect I wanted that one time it was working. I returned the RP8000F II and purchased a Cornwall IV, which is what I'm listening to now. I've only had them set up for about 12 or 13 days so I'm still adjusting things, slight position changes, different music sources, using the Yamaha Pure Direct mode, which I think sounds better, etc.
I have to chuckle a little. I spent 6 months doing research, running around to various audio shops listening to a ton of speakers. I buy the speakers that I like and someone thinks they sound terrible. Sorry, speakers are very subjective and if Klipsch wanted them to sound different they would. I happen to like Klipsch the way they are and they’re made in the USA. Thanks

I just finished the upgrade. Well, maybe Danny`s graphs show a minor difference before and after the update, but let me tell you that the upgrade opens op a totally new dimension and the difference in listening experience is night and day! I`m stunned and left without words literally. Was just considering selling my Atoll IN200 signature as I didn`t like the sound at all combined with those 6000F`s. Especially at low volumes the only thing present was high mids and treble. Sounded cheap and not balanced at all. The off-ax was ruining the listening experience. Cancellation was obvious at almost any position to the speakers.
From the very first minute I started listening after the upgrade I got goosebumps all over.
Clarity is superb. It feels like someone gave me a new pair of ears or connected my brain directly to amplifier. Soundstage is leaving listeners speachless.
I remember visiting fyne audio`s room with some creed stuff connected to it a few months ago. The speakers were 30K per pair and the rest of the gear was around 20K.
I was blown away by the way the music was projected. It fell like a new dimension was opened up and the overall listening experience kept everybody mouse quiet in the room. Well, now I have the same experience in my own listening room. I can not even imagine how they can even get better after the burn-in. I`m in love with this upgrade and now I fully believe and understand that a technical 'perfect' speaker is a step towards perfection in the listening experience. Stunning job from GR research.

Let me do the honours: Sand cast resistors are mildly inductive and attainable in +/- 10% or +/- 5% tolerance bands at best, hence will vary response curves between pairs of drivers to a greater extent than metal film or metal oxide resistors, which come in +/- 1% bands and are non-inductive. Not sure if I should go into detail on what inductance does in a circuit. Steel has much higher resistance than silver, copper or even brass and being ferromagnetic will induce a stronger magnetic field opposing the flow of alternating current with an artifact of hysteresis, not hysteria, thrown in. Polyester caps have much better characteristics than electrolytics, but inferior to polypropylene caps. Tan Δ is about an order of magnitude higher, but also temperature and frequency characteristic is poor compared to PP. Danny may have his foibles, but he is very talented speaker builder in my humble opinion.
@@MrsZambezi can we stop with the "it's not audible" 🐂 💩. If you're strictly talking tone, you would be correct. Not much is gonna change, the speaker drivers are doing the talking and if they are receiving similar frequency range to reproduce, you won't hear a tone change. What does change is timing, precision, and tolerance. If you don't have a proper setup, you won't hear any appreciable change. Every change I've heard has been in the soundstage and in the dynamics.
That being said, I'm no engineer. I'm a DIY enthusiast and i listen to everyone objectively. Danny's advice (sprinkled with a little bit of Paul at PS Audio) have transformed my system for the better more than anyone else. I've built my own speakers, interconnects, speaker wire, and power cables. Everything matters and everything has had an appreciable change for the better. Before you shout "confirmation bias" just know that I'm smarter than that. If the monoprice cables performed better than my custom cables, i would've immediately abandoned my work and gone back. I'm all about making my system the best it can be without spending a fortune. Cheers.
@@MrsZambezi If you pay enough attention to your setup, quality of your source and amplification and condition of their constituents, electrolytic capacitors, relays, pots, selectors, spindles, alignment, bias, calibration, interconnects, sockets and whatnot; if you apply similar level of perseverance to your speakers, crossovers, internal damping, positioning, wiring and room treatment, you will eventually end up with a chain effortlessly resolving minute details. It's almost like lifting numerous curtains to reveal a stage, layers deep and wrap around wide, in a fashion headphones cannot match. For best results use a well made SACD player, one which does not convert data to PCM internally prior to processing, and gift it a Mo-Fi or Analogue Productions fodder. Now, obviously not everyone is inclined to invest time and money into studying circuit theory, building their own lab and experimenting for ages and that's where Danny comes in, basic DIY skills required only.
Think you are all sadly bitter! A man with extensive experience in speaker design, construction, building and repairing who uses all this knowledge to help others. Of course, he gets paid for his work. He can not do charity. There are always improvements to be made on the majority of products manufactured. Take my old Beetle, which had diagonal tires as standard and when I got on radial tires, my Beetle became a go-kart. No sliding or rocking in the curves. An upgrade really worth every penny. So it is for the ear when the music sounds even better from my speakers and even more expensive speakers after Danny's upgrade. He straightens the roller coaster to a comfortable and comfortable wave. Worth every octave.
I did the upgrade and the improvement was immediate. Perfect tone balance and more clarity overall thanks to better crossover components and better cabinet damping ( No Rez is surprisingly efficient and I re-used only half of the original white dampening material ). What I didn’t expect is to find the speakers being simply more agreeable to listen to and that came as a good surprise; I used to use an equalizer to flatten the response ( that was desperately needed as per my measurements ! ) but that was just a bandaid, apparently. Congratulations Danny for the crossover design !
What made them more agreeable? I'm on the fence on completely different speakers or this upgrade.
The loudspeaker has still the same sound signature with the bright tweeter and a dynamic fast and “forward” sound.
I still need -3dB on the treble ! …. and I use dynamic loudness.

It feels more detailed while less fatiguing but mainly the sound is CLEANER and that is maybe why they they are more agreeable to listen too.

Have you ever had “Official Talks” with any of the major speaker manufacturers about improving their speakers? How much would it increase the price of a speaker to remove magnetic (steel) binding posts and hardware? For me the capacitors at least would be the best bang for the buck. For 20$ per speaker at their purchasing power would not affect pricing of the finidshed speaker greatly!

Hey Danny, your mike is a lite bit hot at the top end needs to be brought in level. Now that i have build my own speakers with good parts in it i can tell you it´s on your end ;) .I was surpriesed what a diffrence makes encloser, caps,baffleshape,damping,port position... Actually now its the 5th pair what i have build and i have to admit the crossover makes the speaker and yes quality parts!!

I have often wondered when you were going to do a 2.5 way on some of these speakers. Too bad you couldn't just make a whole new front baffle and really fix some of these issues. As always another great fix!!!
No, for this kind of loudspeakerers setup only the 2.5 way is a proper solution. 2 way has to be MTM.
that all sounds good.. but sound & perfrence doesn't come from measurements & yet I have the 8000f & they sound beautiful. great imaging.. separation deep tight bass excellent mids & highs. can't tell u have many of my friends loved these. they had more expensive speakers as did I.. after hearing these several friends sold there's & purchased 8000..

Do you think these large companies are using software to design crossovers? I can't see a engineer designing speakers like this.
They have in-house commerical software that helps design all types of xovers.
Some still use spreadsheets. Many more use "software" which is basically similar spreadsheets wrapped up in a front-end/GUI.
I do love excel, but using fixed value components and 20th century formulae for these designs isn't helping anyone. So why do they do it? Legacy.
The "star" engineer would have used said spreadsheet when they designed a bestselling model. And it stuck. It's the magic formula, new guys may NOT tamper with it. That's pretty much it!
@@vikassm it is hard to believe when Holmeimulse and ViitiuxCAD are for free to measure and design proper crossover. Ok maybe for commercial use one may need to pay small fee...

Conclusion: Klipsh doesn't consider phase matching when designing their speakers. Any phase matching you find is pretty much coincidence. Which is really weird for a company whose engineers have been doing this for so long.
With floor standing speakers, I really wish he would extend the tests down to 20 or 40 Hz. And there's been a couple of speakers that have very intriguing responses around 20KHz that made me wish I could see the response curve above it. Most already have that downward trend that we all know what it looks like. But every once in a while, we see measurements that makes me wonder what it does above 20KHz.
And once again, you managed to smooth it out without major SPL loss. Nice work.

Electrodynamic loudspeakers of today, have not improved very much since the nineteen sixties. Actually , many of them had a flatter frequency response and a more neutral sound back then.
I wish you would measure the latest versions of these models. I returned a pair of Klipsch RP8000F II, which actually sounded very clean and linear as far as I could tell although they lacked bass, and the fullness or richness of tone I want for vocals, but they seemed very linear to my ear, and clean sounding, especially for instruments. However, I returned them and purchased the Cornwall VI, which are much fuller sounding, but you only recently measured and took apart the Cornwall III, which I believe is the most problematic of the four versions, so it may not represent the Cornwall IV, except perhaps for some general things like phase issues, steel terminals, and maybe bracing or damping inside, but I am curious if those were address or fixed, and to what degree in the latest version.

Ive already decided for O.B. speaker's to be my next & last speaker, (esp' when reasoning with the laws of physics & all my past speaker designs experience & what people "in the know" say about O.B. I've often gazed at those tower speakers sometimes standing behind Danny, the tall point-source O.B. towers with central ribbon[?] tweeters) ..& i think they'll very likely suit me fine.
If money wasn't an issue in this time (esp' as 1 of my vintage 15" Tannoy drivers started a horrible magnet-rubbin 2 months ago, at only 53 yrs old!) ...i do believe i'd have a pair of those sitting in front of me right now. (I 4get their name)
It must be peace of mind to know that you yourself have properly soldered every connection with a decent contact area in your speakers a good quality dielectric'd wire. Ive seen some sloppy work unopened from the factory till myself in electrical repair jobs.
P.S. I once came across brand-new Wharf' Diamond tower speakers in late 80's 'ish, where one of the speaker's bass/mid driver's connectors was pushed-on out of phase with the other speaker's bass-mid, i'd checked my friends leads & connections as being o.k. but to convince him to let me unscrew the backs of both his new speakers, after telling him there was something wrong but most probably easily fixable inside... (he knew nothing of 'phasing') ...i had to go & return with 2 test records both with phase-test tracks, to prove to him what i felt was the case upon 1'st hearing his new speakers ..virtually no real bass at a toed-in sweet-spot triangle & i walked about & heard bass only existed properly with an ear near any one of the side-walls ...& as new from Wharfdale via Richer-Sounds (a return, i bet) Do enjoy your new speakers

5:17 Instead of turning the head to the floor you could also tilt the box backwards. This would be the cheapest solution.

@@SweCrue You can tilt them till the center of mass reaches the fulcrum ^-^. I didn't know that they are tilted. I do this with my PC speakers also for more details in the high.
LoL, I did this. I had the same thought. I cut up an aluminum 3 sided ruler for under the front feet on carpet which tilted the speaker further back and remeasured for a slight better response curve along with Audyssey's magic. It worked so well I ordered matching paint for them. Not as good as the upgrade but,

I bought these speakers and took one listen to tracks that I know very well. There were huge holes in the sound and in my experience the drop in the low end 100-200hz range was just missing. I returned them after listening for one day.. Ended up with some Tekton Lore's and they are lovely to listen to right out of the box. Paper cone 10" driver and audax gold tweeter for the win!
@Uncle Bob If I can hear the speaker is missing something and sounds like a hole in the music, then it is big enough to be "huge" to me. I was indeed listening way closer than 3m. And definitely plenty of people listen that closely. lol

The RP-5000 would measure really good and be close to the Rp-6000, I found that the 4.5" and 5.25" sound better than the RF- 8" woofers (RF line) The new RP tweeters are 100x better than the RF-line . IMO the RF-42ii had the best tweeter for that RF- line.

I have a NAD C 316BEE Integrated Amplifier with Phono and use a Project Debut Carbon Turntable, looking to purchase a pair of speakers for around $1000. I was going to purchase the Klipsch RP6000F's but this video has deflated me. What speaker would you recommend? Quality parts, quality balance, etc. Are Bowers and Wilkens better? I don't have a lot of time to investigate which speakers to purchase and I don't live in a metro area where I can sample a whole bunch of speakers. Klipsch RP 8000F plus Klipsch 15 subwoofer, which cutoff should be set on the subwoofer 40Hz -80Hz.
Good Day. I have Polk model TSi500 speakers about 15 years old. Yes I know, Cheep by comparison but I think they sound as good as or better than some or many Klipsch speakers and mine have nice bass. I like the Forte IV speakers as well or better than their other speakers short of mortgaging the house. Just no way that I can justify spending that much on those speakers, even though I could. Ever look at speakers that average people can afford to buy? I just found this web site, so I'm likely very behind. Thanks and Very Enjoyable.

Don't you think Klipsch does that on purpose to catch the buyers ear on the showroom floor to highlight their speakers against the competition ? They don't care about long term listening fatigue once the speaker is home, they just care about the sale.
James Larson from Audioholics measured the 8000F model outside and it didn't have any dips in the frequency response or phase issues. Danny had the same issues with that model. The most precise measurements are always done either outside or in an anechoic chamber. Danny Richie is full of cheese, but he pretends to be an engineer who knows it all.
Actually the guy from Audioholics that made that review those measurements told me that his measurements matched mine when taken in the same way. They just choose to to publish them. And my gated time window measurements are the same as if they were measured in an anechoic chamber.
I have these, sitting in a closet. I replaced them with a pair of KEF 950s, m uch more to my liking.
I wonder if making the bottom woofer network a 2nd order and bringing it's frequency point up an octave would bring up the 300hz dip while also keeping the acoustic centers to the tweeter acceptable?
I tried it, but the cap value need to pick it up down that low is large and causes an impedance short. The slight dip there is due to the baffle step loss and also in an area that typically increases some with room gain and reflections. So it is not too bad.
My guess is Klipsch is popular because they're the best speaker you can get at a big box store? To a person used to sound bars, tiny surround systems and cheap computer speakers, they're the best thing ever.

Klipsch aren’t designed to be flat, linear, or warm, on average. They’re designed to be slightly pushed up in the highs and lows on most of their speakers. Especially under $2000.
The average person who isn’t a true audiophile won’t care. Many like that. And there are some audiophiles who like a more energetic speaker, as well.
I agree, I believe that marketing wants that pushed highs and lows because they will demo better in any AB test in a typical big box retailer to your typical unsophisticated customers
I frequently get people asking me if it sucks to compete with ADT and Xfinity and the like when installing alarm systems. I tell the truth when I say those companies are why I don’t need a Sales Team.

It would be cool to se you do DALI's older series Helicon MK2. That was succeeded by Epicon series. The price was DRAMATICALLY increased. But is the audio that much better to justify the cost increase? I'm not so sure.

At the cross-over point (the dip), I would think that if the woofer & tweeter are in-phase that this would be double the power at that point, which is ~87dB for both the woofer and the tweeter. If you double the power, then you add 3dB, which puts you close to where the combined freq response is. But you mentioned that 6dB should be added. What am I not getting here? Thanks for posting.
The woofer and tweeter are NOT in phase at the crossover.

I'll just say this, it's not a matter of him being the only person who can design a good loudspeaker because that's not the case and it's just simply not true.
All he is doing is simply showing models from any and every manufacturer that people send in to him that could benefit from a correction to the factory, mass produced speaker. That's it.
Now when it comes to his DIY kits, I think it's simple as well. He's a nuthead audiophile who appreciates great sounding music and he knows what makes a good speaker system. So when you take his experience and his knowledge and a no compromise approach to cost, he can take a well designed driver, put it into a well-designed cabinet or baffle, with a well designed crossover and you get an accurate speaker.
Your next challenge becomes the environment in which the speaker is contained.

By your mod you lowered the efficieny a bit. Would I still be able to run them satisfyingly by a tube amp that puts out 25W at max?
The sensitivity hasn't really changed. I just brought everything down and balanced it to the output level that the lower end was at to begin with.

The NX-Studio, Is the priced of 899-1026 include flatpack? I am trying to figure out, the individual drivers are about 450, wandering what other add up to the 899?
That does not include the flat pack. The rest of the cost are the top level crossover parts, wiring, tube connectors and two sheets of no Rez that come with that model.
So 430 just for the parts or speaker and new parts

My guess is that you are a Klipsch lover, and I have nothing against that. I own some Klipsch myself. As many many people do because of their reach and market share. It only makes sense that he gets sent a lot of different Klipsch speakers to see if there is room for improvement because so many of us own them.
If you took someone who probably spent a buttload of money on a Bowers and Wilkins, they're probably not going to be too quick to send them to someone like Danny because they already spent the money on such a high-end company that there shouldn't be any need to improve on them right?
hi can you explain why so many speakers have twin woofers? eg i have wharfedale 9.CM and it has 2 woofers. surely the interference will cancel out a lot of sound? thanks
The wavelengths that those dual woofers are playing are quite long. So for them to cancel each other out they need to be much further apart creating a much longer time delay.

They are identical to the 8000f except for the tweeter ('vented' in the 8000 vs traditional), some cosmetics and maybe minimal dimendional differences because of the feet. Crossovers near identical as well. The new tweeter is considered an actual upgrade by most.

@@bric7244 I wouldn't worry too much. I have rp150pm (with the 'old' tweeter) and rp 6000f (nev one). They're both great and i actually switch between them for stereo.

Hey mate. Have you done the bm6a dynaudio? I hate em. They're in my studio but they just don't give me what i need to mix. Can't hear compression well or mids and even the highs lack detail. And here in Australia they were around 2 grand.

Nobody listens at 1 meter. The dip is gone at regular listening distance of about 3 meters. One can also bi amp and move the tweeters down 2db or so.
I would think all speakers could use an upgrade with very few exceptions.

I know 50% of the total costs of the speaker and 50% more for the upgrade will have an enormous impact in sound quality.
But why is klipsch doing this, I bet it is to make money and as much as they can. I didn't espect this from klipsch they real can make good speakers. For those who wanted to upgrade it like Danny made you won't regret it.

It probably because a a good set of speakers with a great crossover is out of budget for most consumers. Danny's crossover alone would probably add a thousand dollars at retail or more.

I upgraded amps from mkt caps to mkp's and one of the better brands yes the Amp overshoot its previous performance. I find that Danny's cost are margen. And give a enormous sound improvement.
I just bought a pair of these from Crutchfield scratch and dent. I've had for a few months. I couldn't put my finger on it, but always kept thinking something was off with them. Did you actually buy this upgrade kit and install it? I pretty much spent all I had on these. Wondering if it's worth saving for the upgrade kit. ??

The worst sound of a speaker is a fully flat frequency response.Then it becomes monitor and not a music loudspeaker. Some frequency dips are desirable from manufacturers for more pleasant music sound.For example the BBC dip.I can not believe that klipsch didn't know the dip frequency.
So there is a big chance you made worst the speaker with the crossover changes you made

Personally I want my speakers to reproduce the sound that the audio engineer at mixing/mastering studio was hearing and what he tried to do with the material. That's why I choose Genelec speakers. If the music sounds bad, then the music is bad. No mercy for bad audio quality.
@@Moukula The problem with the Genelec speakers is that even though the frequency response may be fairly well balanced, they will smear most of the signal and you still never hear a lot of the details in the recording.
How do you know what the bass is doing if you don't measure below 200Hz?
The tuning can be seen in the impedance curve. And what the low end really does depends as much on the room as anything.
The real klipsch speakers is the heritage line. Entry level is heresy, then forte, Cornwall, la scalla, and the top of line klipschorn. Still handmade in hope Arkansas and built to last a lifetime. My klipschorns were built in 1979 and though they still sound awesome, am updating crossover and drivers.
I had a La Scalla in here several months back. They were actually riddled with problems top to bottom. I was going to design an upgrade for them that straightened them out and fixed the problems, but then the guy heard our NX-Treme's and after that, it was all he wanted.
klipsch will always be metallic treble heavy shouters for people who partially have lost their hearing

@@dannyrichie9743 well I'm all the way in Baton Rouge, LA. I'm tempted to head your way though. Especially now being a tried and true cable builder and see the real world benefit. It wasn't even a fancy cable either. No geometry whatsoever. Basic 16awg cable left over from my LED for the pool and some chifi connectors but boy did it open the soundstage up, seperation of notes, weight to the notes,etc... Blew my mind how much of a difference $60 in parts changed my listening station. And these were 12 ft cables too!
