  • Short video of Vulkan VS Dx11 & some comparison of DLSS on VS off.
Not an exhaustive video by any means, and just more on how Vulkan is handling shadows.
My take away from Vulkan VS Dx11 is just ever so slightly lower performance (Which is countered by DLSS anyway), but better shadows, colour, and emissive/glow/fog rendering.
On the DLSS side, it's a given it makes things look slightly more muddy, but the antialiasing that comes with DLSS is just too good not to put on, especially for small lines and wires which helps a lot on places like Lorville, not to mention the roughly 10fps you gain.
DLSS would probably be even better if they further implament it with allowing custom percentages like 94% or something of the sort, or even downscalling for screenshots
(Think capturing at 4k and downscalling to 2k [1440p])
Those are just my thoughts on it, and figured I would make a video since I wanted to compare myself anyway.
If anyone finds this useful, feel free to comment and let me know if you would want to see a more detailed look and what locations you would like to see!

I'd like to point out that DLSS really improves the shimmering on signs and other visual artifacts.

^ 100% You can see it on the zoomed in shot of Lorville cityscape. FSR and TSR make the shimmer worse. I will take ever so slightly muddy textures to remove the shimmer / poor antialiasing

@SolarTara Does DLSS cause the Drake MFDs to shimmer? I know that FSR does.

Yep, can confirm, the TAA ghosting is fucking awful, I hate TAA as it's just a duct tape anti aliasing method, in my opinion and probably a lot of other people's, and makes the game look shit, but DLSS makes it bearable, I can still see some ghosting but DLSS is somehow a better duct tape for TAA...I hate how popular it has become and the fact that games don't even offer the other methods of anti aliasing

    • @SolarTara
      @SolarTara  4 місяці тому

Agreed! Though yea I would rather the slight ghosting and slightly blurry textures over no antialiasing. FXAA is crap, and so its TAA in most cases. MSAA gives the best look imo, but it doesn't work with DLSS because of the way DLSS renders... at least to my knowledge. DLAA the downscaling instead of DLSS upscaling looks a lot better but its opposite of fps gains lol
Also I don't recall any shimmer on Drake ships but I have only flown the Cutlass Blue.

DX11 delivers so much more depth, better blacks, more lights, etc. - cant wait for DLSS 3.5 and Frame Generation. Even FSR3 would be better for "all of us"!

    • @SolarTara
      @SolarTara  4 місяці тому

Uh Dx11 has broken shadows and shadow casters, and Vulkan will support multithread. Maybe u meant Vulkan lol
Agreed, DLSS 3.5 would be nice

@@SolarTara Not at all lol, Vulkan on star citizen does not even have HDR so DX11 will "delivers so much more depth, better blacks, more lights, etc." and it does not had hyper threading for now too!

Thanks for this comparison. CIG TSR and FSR are garbage IMO. Too much flickering and bad motion handling. DLSS is way better, even at much lower resolution (DLSS at 720p internal looks better than 1440p "native"). You can use DLDSR + DLSS for even better image quality. I hope they will allow us to use DLSS at native resolution (DLAA).

YES i didnt even compare TSR or FSR for that reason. And i mentioned it in the description too that I hope they add downscalling (DLAA) cause that also be awesome. So far im happy with all of this and think it will open up for more lower end pc's to still enjoy the game

Pretty good comparaison, maybe the better will be a view from each city and from theire spaceport looking down at the city.
Seems like i have to try vulkan tonight

      Good thought thanks!
Its hard to reposition to the exact spot when flying /spaceports since switching to Vulkan or Dx11 requires full restart of the game and spaceports move. But im sure I can find a way! If you think of any places you want to see I could definitely give it a go :)

@@SolarTara i don't think it's really important in for the spaceport case, because we will look at how the city appear in the distance, how the global illumation work, the cloud, ect.... What will be more important is trying to catch the same time period to match the illumination.
What could be cool to do, it with invictus doing comparison inside ship to see how thing can act, especially with origin who have good lighting.
Another play you can give a goo is the river on microtech or place in arena commander, will me much simpler to get the same look with the different engine.

These are wonderful suggestions! Thanks Arrisan
Do you think I should change how I showcase it? Do I go back and forth enough or not enough? I noticed that youtube does its time skips with the arrow keys at 5seconds so maybe i'll try and make it easier for one to skip back and forth to compare themselves! Love any suggestions.
I agree, seeing how planet lighting is effected at the same "time of day" would be interesting, as well as how the water behaves, though I think the water shader doesn't change much between them. I totally will look into doing this! I didn't expect so many people to be interested in this, but maybe Subscribe so you don't miss when I do make that video :)
Next vid coming is just a random ship walkthrough, cheers!

@@SolarTara A good way is side comparaison, or when you superimpose them and move a slider accros to show it. The points is when you do it actually we kinda need to do screenshot to compare little detail, so the slide to modify or multiple view is good (slider to switch between vulkan/directx and the multi view to see different dlls/tsr/amd)

Hey, so DLSS, & Vulkan are beta features, and Star Citizen is in Alpha so due to this hardware plays an even bigger of a part in FPS and the server that you connect to has an FPS that can effect numbers as well.
I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking they will get an FPS boost while using any of these features when it could be the complete opposite.
If the feature was complete and Star Citizen was say, in Beta. I would have been more inclined to show FPS. But I have an extreme outlier rig where Star Citizen only utilized about 30%-42% of both my GPU and CPU at any given time at max settings.
So I don't believe FPS would be a fair or accurate comparison! I am sorry you feel this way and I will look to do better in the future. I do plan to make some more comparison videos & will include FPS if I truly believe it will be a good showcase of the feautre/features I will do that. Cheers agustinmoreyra, and I hope you stick around.
That being said I will give you an idea, I hope this helps!
      Specs:
      GPU - GTX 3080
CPU - AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX 32-Cores @4.2 GHz
      RAM - 128GB 1600MHz DDR4
      Game Resolution: 2560 x 1440
      DLSS Setting: 66%
      Average frame-rate ingame:
      No DLSS + Vulkan On = [37 - 44 FPS]
      DLSS On + Vulkan On = [42 - 57 FPS]
      No DLSS + Dx11 On = [32 - 36 FPS]
      DLSS On + Dx11 On = [44 - 62 FPS]

@@SolarTara any fps counter could stand as a reference point for the current patch, but thank you anyways for the comparisons, and thanks for the fps stuff at the end of your comment. @I_am_a_human_not_a_commodity Місяць тому

Those two technologies aren't related. Deep Learning Supersampling (DLSS) renders frames, then uses AI to upscale those frames to look as sharp as the desired resolution to boost framerates. Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing (FXAA) is a form of post-processing anti-aliasing. Anti-aliasing smooths jagged edges on textures to make them more appealing to the eye.
Just thought I'd help clarify that 🙂

    what about fps?

    • @SolarTara
      @SolarTara  5 місяців тому +2

I didnt bother comparing that because its still an early implementation of it, and its so dependent on hardware and then server fps can also impact testing. But in the description of the video I do kinda point out.
TLDR: Vulkan can reduce fps by maybe 5 - 10 frames but dlss brings it back up for the most part. Dx11 + dlss means you get maybe 14 more frames then vulkan without dlss.
But yea idk. Hope that helped!
