Definitely on the fence about bed fishing too, if people want to sight fish, go for it just please treat that fish with the utmost respect and care to ensure the future of that fish, and it's offspring. If you don't sight fish, that's completely fine too! Just enjoy it!🎣🎣

Unfortunately there's a lot of "anglers"
That don't care about the fish and they just wanna get their picture with a big fish at any cost.
Most but not all of them are children and follow the instructions of the inexperienced goon squad.

I mean regardless if you catch a fish on a bed or not, there is always a chance of accidentally killing it. As a “angler” I’m out there to catch a fish, have fun, take a picture or 2 and throw it back. I fish for whatever I can catch. And the inexperienced goon squad caught some monster bass and people are jealous of that. Does it matter how they caught it? Or where? Or how? No, no it doesn’t. I’m not a huge fan of that channel but they seem like they have a lot of fun doing it, and that’s what matters. The bitter people who never caught a bass over 3 lbs should just sit down and be quiet

I am of the ilk that won’t sight fish bedding bass. However, since I beat the bank, I have occasionally caught a large female simply working that shallow water.
I endeavor to handle the fish as carefully as possible , and get her back in the water asap. Great episode, and I I always enjoy how you’re one second away from going down the rabbit hole and expounding on all that is bass fishing.

I agree. I have no issue fishing for bed fish....if it's released right away. It'll go right back to the bed. But these tourney's that put them in a livewell all day, then take them to weigh-ins and released on the other side of the lake from where the bed is....not cool.

I caught 28, 7 @ 16”+, using this technique on Saturday using wacky rigged 5” Senko’s & Dinger’s. My home lake is a little less than 40 acres, basically a glorified pond, and the deepest part is 13’ft. I started using the Yum Dinger here after watching the underwater video y’all did last year. The slower fall rate of the Dinger is huge plus in most of the lake. The only area that I used the Senko was near the dam where the fish were in deeper water. Great tips…

My lake that I fish is Smith Mountain Lake in VA. There is usually several big tournaments during the spawn with all of the fish going back to a weigh in, I wish the state would set regulations that no bass can be put in the live well from this date to this date to protect the spawn. Some say it don't hurt the spawn but I don't believe it.

13:10 that's the problem though. A lot of bass fishermen on boats will not put them back right away. Even though they're not in a tournament, they'll keep them in the livewell so they could get that hero shot at the end of the day.

  • @BasslivesmatterLLC

If you have a problem fishing for spawning bass then simply wait until the post spawn to start fishing. Even if your not targeting the bank or shallow fish doesn't mean your catching spawning bass in shallow lakes that doesnt have a deep offshore. What happens when front comes in bass you see on beds move off them to deeper water that's close to the bed so even though your fishing deeper your still catching those fish. I'm in the middle when it comes to spawning bass if I see one on a bed it's the quickest catch and release ever to get them back as fast as possible. On the other hand I'm not going to sit and target them for hrs at a time there are different times fish spawn not all are spawning at once so I rather target the activie ones roaming. We all have our opinions on this subject and no one is right or wrong. 💪🏿🎣

  • @bigc8018
    @bigc8018 2 роки тому

On Lake Fork, one of the premier fisheries in the world, during the spawn you have to pull a number and wait for it to come up to get close to the bank to sight fish and there are more fisherman on the water than at any other time of the year. It's been this way for 30+ years and it is STILL one of the premier big bass lakes in the world. So, based on that, I don't see where the bass fishery has been effected by bed fishing. So long as you care for it as your would any other fish you catch and return it, I don't see it being negatively affected.

I'm not sure I want to add that up 😂 I bought the boat used and stripped, that saved quite a bit up front and gave me a clean slate for my build. Without the tunnel, pods, Ultrex, etc... I could have saved a lot but those mods were the difference between a nice Aluminum boat and a serious river hull that could get me exactly where I needed to go. Realistically, mods probably cost half of what I paid for the total package and saved me at least $15-20K over buying a new boat with the same capabilities.

I've yet to hear a valid argument why bed fish is NOT harmful. Nonetheless, if you prefer, fish the same secondary points during the spawn as you were pre-spawn to target the second-stage spawners. At this point the first-stage spawners will move back to the secondary points. Then move on to the summer pattern. That's how I avoid bed fishing

Catch a bed fish take a pic and release it . Some states are actually writing the book on how to kill the future of bass fishing. Allowing larger tourneys and too many tournaments and allowing creel limits during the spawn. This will continue to diminish the amount of bass in lakes and reservoirs. Those fish will be stressed and never make it back to home range or bed site. I think this especially hits the heavier in weight Largemouth populations and allows increase of other species, especially spotted bass. This is the reason why NC has no limits on spotted bass. Imo all tournaments should be catch photo measure release. They do this for billfish tournaments to protect the species. Why not do it for bass. Another mistake some authorities make is stocking species of non-native fish that compete heavily with resident bass.
Pfister small Lake for 20 years after 10 years of stocking trout the Bass population plummeted. You can only fish 10% of that Lake from the shore. Since most trout fisherman fish on their feet oh, I can only imagine that not many of those trout caught year after year. You can imagine the rest . what the heck were they thinking. They ruined a great bass fishery for local community.

Did you actually try them? I can't wear standard flex fit hats, I have to order mine special because of my head size, and the glasses fit perfectly after one day of wearing them.

If I see a decent female I will try catch her but I won't spent alot of time, a couple casts then I move on. I don't go out to fish specifically for spawning fish. I'm out for pre & post fish. If I do catch bedding fish I always release them immediately. Right back over their bed where I caught them. I release all bass I catch anyways!!! Thier are fish I will keep & eat but I don't keep any largemouth & small mouth.

It's hard to imagine that anyone keeps Largemouth/Smallmouth to eat, ridiculous even.

If you bed fish...put it right back where you found it! Even if you're a catch-and-release angler, don't put that fish in your live well or hold it out of the water for any length of time. I've seen guys catch the buck and store it in their live well while they fish for the female. *Don't do that* at all! That male protects the bed, the female generally doesn't. In fact, sometimes she's the worst culprit when it comes to eating the eggs! So get that male right back in the water. I don't care what stories you've heard or what you were taught. Put that fish right back! There are more anglers on the water now than there have ever been before. We are damaging and destroying the next generation of bass simply for our own amusement. Put that fish right back!

bed fishing is kind of a no no in my book. sure yea fish when you wish, but the fish is in a state where stress can kill them. as much as i’d like a double digit bass like a 14#, i’d pass on it. get it in, lure off and a pic really quick and back in the water asap, she should be ok. granted i don’t really fish big lakes or deep water, most is maybe 15 feet. local rivers are shallow, maybe 8 feet at most, so that is something i can’t quite get around.

I just don’t see a whole lot of reward from bedfishing. When I was younger, I did it because it is cool to watch a fish eat your bait right in front of you. But I would rather ensure that the next generation of bass in the lake is sustainable and not bother the spawners. It’s not as rewarding to catch a big fish that’s trapped on a bed and doesn’t even want to eat your lure but it has to try and move it off the bed.
