    Thank you, I even didn't know that there is a filter. W124 is a great car.

      I also like that there is no cheesy or loud music. UA-cam is full of music that sounds terrible. If it not that it is visual effects that make some people feel nauseated.

    That's a bad way to flush the system, because you let the steering pump run without oil. The steering box has a screw, where you can drain the fluid. If you open the screw and turn the steering a few times you will get all the oil out of the system. Fill the system up, repeat the procedure one more time and everything is fine.

      a few seconds will not harm the pump, there is still a certain oil film on the critical parts... running it dry for longer time will cause damage though

      still better to keep the reservoar topped up all the time.you dont want to run it without fluid in there..even if it doesnt directly HURT the pump right there and then...it DOES put unnesessary strain on the pump internals.
      I have a video where i perform this task on my 500e..which is quite different..as there is no way to take off the return hose.
      cheers from Norway :)

    You really shouldn't run it dry like you did but it looks like you fixed that in the second part.

    Not very clever to run the pump without oil, even for only a few seconds, especially while turning the steering wheel. Fill, start, turn steering from lock to lock, suck out old fluid and repeat a few times will achieve the same goal, without possible pump damage.

    I have 1993 300TE. Can you tell me how easy is your steering? Is it easy steering, very easy, effortless or not easy, a little hard. My car is easy and light if front end is jack up, but if its on the ground its a little hard, not easy. I don't know how a new 300TE steering should feel. Every parts are new or rebuilt. Rebuilt Steering box, New power steering pump, new front suspension and ball joints that completes the steering. The rear end new multi links. Thanks

    Thank you sir for this helpful video. My question now does changing the fluid and replacing the filter will make the pump performance better. I have removed the pump before and flush it with organic cleaner but I wasn't know that there is filter inside, the pump hadn't do better and nothing changed. Right now I have the same problem steering is heavy as if the pump working bad. I will do the same procedure and will see.

      Hello, I did a quick search on the Internet and it looks like the pumps are different between model year 1996 and 1998. I am quite sure that it will not fit. Good luck.

      I purchased two quarts and used 1 to flush out the system. I then used the remaining quart to fill to the fill mark on the plastic dipstick that goes inside the reservoir.

      Ray P. In principle yes, but I would read about fluid type, fluid quantity, and any filters that may be required prior to doing this.

    Not very bright to run the pump without oil, even for a few seconds (one can hear it straining). An ideal way would've been to feed fresh oil into the reservoir while the old oil is being purged (syphoning out the majority of the old oil before starting).

    • @eallevato
      @eallevato  6 років тому +1

      Visionery1. Even without oil, the pump gears will not be damaged if it is run for a few seconds. The gears are hardened steel that can tolerate minutes without any lubrication. There are many myths and old wives tales out there.

    I have a 300D, it's owners manual says use automatic transmission fluid........ no, realy. I swear to god.

    • @MichaelBrown-wx6zq
      @MichaelBrown-wx6zq 4 роки тому +1

      That was a thing in the 80's, they later realized the friction additives used to aid the transmissions clutch packs would increase wear on the power steering pumps.
      MB later put out a service bulletin to use power steering fluid in the power steering pumps....

    • @lukewarmwater6412
      @lukewarmwater6412 4 роки тому

      @@MichaelBrown-wx6zq think carefully about what you just said. if the statement were true those transmissions would eat bearings and bushings, and they dont. its just slick marketing to get us to buy a more expensive product.

    • @MichaelBrown-wx6zq
      @MichaelBrown-wx6zq 4 роки тому +1

      @@lukewarmwater6412 bushings are made of rubber and don't experience dynamic friction. Bearings are often sealed and can use their own lubrication while benefiting from the cooling of the passing atf.
      Also what more expensive product are you referencing? Atf and power steering fluid costs about the same.

    • @lukewarmwater6412
      @lukewarmwater6412 4 роки тому

      @@MichaelBrown-wx6zq sealed bearings?? rubber bushings??!..... have you ever acually seen the inside of an automatic transmission? sealed bearings are for wheels. rubber bushings are for a-arms.
      the bearings are not sealed. they rely on the free flow of fluid to carry away heat. the bushings are phosphor bronze.
      this conversation is pointless, mostly because you dont know anything other than what you have read. repair an automatic transmission. refurbish a pump . then maybe you will understand what I am saying.

    • @MichaelBrown-wx6zq
      @MichaelBrown-wx6zq 4 роки тому

      @@lukewarmwater6412 Didn't think of bronze bushings, thats why I pointed out they're rubber and don't experience dynamic friction so they made no sense to mention in this context, my B. No I haven't been inside of an auto trans, good thing our topic is power steering pumps. You still haven't mentioned this more expensive product that "they" are selling us on ya boomer.
      Also you can easily look up my original comments is valid as Mercedes put out a service bulletin advising to switch away from the originally suggest ATF. And finally you started this conversation like a sh*tter and you keep talking like one so bye bye
