    From your explanation I clearly understood how to operate the loom. And also understood how to set the loom in verious designs. Ma'am if you upload more videos related to different designs like mock leno, hack a back twill etc.
    i will grateful to you .

    Thank you so much. I'm in a fibers class for my BFA and even though my teacher explained this and I watched dozens of videos I couldn't figure out what to do with weaving drafts or how to read them until I watched this. You made it so easy to understand. I'm so relieved I could cry. You literally saved me. Thank you so much!

      Tess, Wow, I am so happy that this video helped you in a college fibers course! Thank you so much for your comment, it made my day! I used to live in Savannah, Georgia home of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where they have a wonderfulfibers department. You don't happen to be a student of theirs do you? Best of luck with your class and thank you for your kind comment! -Elizabeth

    I know you made these lesson some years ago but I am very glad I found them. I just happened upon a floor loom from an estate sale and couldn't pass it up, even though I know NOTHING about weaving. It looked very intimidating and complicated but your very clear and patient instruction has been exactly what I needed. So I just wanted to say thank you. 😊

    i'm not a weaver, but i've been weaving-curious for years. this video (and the rest of this series) has cleared up at least 95% of the confusion i have on the subject. i'm not quite ready to make room next to my spinning wheel for a loom, but boy are you making that day seem closer than ever!

      +the nAyisha So glad to know that the videos have been a good resource for you! Thank you for your message and I hope you get the chance to use all that great handspun on a weaving project of your own very soon! -Elizabeth

    Thank you so much for your videos. I bought a four shaft floor loom at an auction and it has just been sitting here after I made a huge mess of trying to put a warp on it and didn't have the confidence to try again but you have made it so clear and now I am going step by step with each of your videos. Thanks again.

      vipxj1 So glad to hear that you're giving it another shot and that my videos are helping you to get it all figured out. These are just the basics, but once you have them, you can build on them as you go. Best of luck with your new loom and hope you enjoy the process! Elizabeth

    Thank you. Thank you, for such explicit and helpful instructions. I have watched this video twice and I think I can do it myself. I so appreciate your videos! Thanks for taking the time and effort to share weaving with me and others!
    Sincerely,
    Karen W.

    Thank you so much for the pattern explanation. It has "de-mystified" all patterns that I see in books and magazines. I have watched other videos, but you give me the most clear and concise explanation. Thank you once again. I have just recently come across your videos and I just like the way you explain everything and for me, you are about as close to a teacher as I can get.

      scrappy836548 Thanks Scrappy - exactly why I made the videos! I'm so glad you are helped by my explanation! It is mystifying when you first start, but once you get used to it, the warping gets easier. Best of luck with your weaving projects and let me know if you have any questions. Elizabeth

    Hi there, I'm confused, you said at 2:37 go Thursday heddle number one next shaft heddle number one , next shaft heddle number one ...but in the 2nd video it was 4 ,3,2,1

    • @elizziewag
      @elizziewag  3 роки тому

      So if you look at all the heddles in front of you (and I usually thread them from the back of my loom from my right to my left) you would thread the first heddle on each shaft (4,3,2,&1), then you'll thread the second heddle on each shaft, and so on as you move along repeating the threading. I hope this helps. Thank you for your question Kim. Enjoy! -Elizabeth

    • @elizziewag
      @elizziewag  3 роки тому

      The 4,3,2,1 refers to which shaft you're on, not which heddle on the shaft.

    This series has made weaving possible for me, and I am so grateful! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Can you explain to me the benefit of using harnesses (1 and 3) and (2 and 4) rather than just harnesses 1 and 2 and leaving 3 and 4 empty? It's a goal of mine to advance to double weaving and turn my 24 inches of weaving into 48 inches of fabric!

    Try this:Start by hooking the loop at the end where the long and short cables come together to the chain that attaches to the cables across the bottom where the lamms are. Bring both long and short cables up and over the pully on the right side of the loom, under the metal bar across the castle and connect the short cable to the right side of the harness and bring the long cable over to the left side of the loom, over that pully and attach it to the hook on the left side of the same harness.

    Hi! Thank you for this. One question: when you flip the pattern do you start the threading sequence on the far right side? The edge furthest away from the treadle tie-up information?

    • @elizziewag
      @elizziewag  3 роки тому

      Hello! Yes, you are correct. You should start threading when you're sitting at the back of the loom from your right to your left with the pattern flipped upside down reading it while it's upside down from right (edge farthest from tie up info) to left.

    I have a question. Your video is very good. I am a starting weaver. I recently purchased Anne Dixion's The Handweaver's Pattern directory. In this book there is an additional grid shown on each weave sample page. On page 29 there is a plain weave the top left of the page shows the threading of the heddles. Next to that on the upper right there is a ti up/ treadling pattern. Both of these I understand but there is another grid that runs down the left side of the page. It shows a grid 14 x 30 squares. The first two rows are blank but then the second and fourth rows have a number 1 in the second square and the first square respectively. Also this patter in the third and fourth rows show a repeat symbol indicating to repeat this sequence over again as you go. The weave is a 3x2/16 Tabby. If you can please help me to understand this. Thank you so much . In other weave samples these squares can hold numbers as high as 9 or more.

      helena carleton Helena - Good book.Glad you are getting started and have some questions already. It all seems kinda cryptic in the beginning, but after a while you will figure out what everything means. You are right about the threading pattern. The block in the top right (black and white squares in my copy of the book) is just the tie up. The treadling sequence is the grid that you're talking about that runs down the length of the different patterns. Each one of these patterns calls for a different tie up and treadling, although all of them, as well as all of the patterns from page 29 thru page 47 can be woven with the same threading. All you have to do to change the pattern is change the tie up and the treadling. The first two blank rows in each treadling grid don't mean anything. She just left those blanks so you could see the separate treadlings easier. Finally, the number in the blocks represent how many picks (passes of the shuttle through the shed) you should throw on each row. The reason why some of the patterns later in the book have higher numbers is that she wants you to throw that many picks on that particular treadling, but in between each (pattern) pick you need to throw a tabby pick (1&3 or 2&4). Look at the top of the treadling grid on those multiple pick patterns. Do you see above the very first draft a blue and white tabby grid? That means that when you weave those patterns in between each pick you should throw a tabby shot. The tabby pick anchors the fabric in those patterns with large floats, etc. I hope I didn't just confuse you more. Maybe check out page 9 "Understanding the Weaving Drafts". Best of luck and thank you for watching my videos! Let me know how everything works out. -Elizabeth

      helena carleton I thought it would have to be far more complicated then it is. I never really thought about showing how many picks to throw. I imagined some thing different. That is so basic, but helpful for some weaves.

  • @Happyknitter2

    when reading the treadling pattern, do you read it from left to right? or right to left?

    • @elizziewag
      @elizziewag  8 років тому

      +Rhonda Callahan I turn the pattern upside down and read the threading right to left as I sit at the back of the loom facing the heddles and thread the headdles right to left.
