Thank you for your response. Your videos are the most helpful on this subject. I watch them over and over and feel like I just might be able to warp the sectional beam on my own the first time. I think I should join a local guild as well. Thanks again and if you make any new videos I'll be watching

I think you're referring to 'lease sticks'. These are long, flat, usually wooden sticks that are slid through the top and bottom of the cross in the warp to keep the order of the warp ends while sleighing the reed. They're attached to the breast beam when warping front to back so the weaver can use both hands to sleigh the reed. Personally I find it easier to hold the cross in my hand and pull each warp end out that way. The lease sticks are strictly an accessory. Hope this helps. Thank you!

Dear Elizabeth, thanks for these fantastic video tutorials.i am watching them from a small cottage in Brittany France. I have followed each in order and they are so clear and all fascinating. I have a question, probalby daft as I am completely new to the concept of weaving, but in the previous clip when you thread the heddles in the 1,2,3,4, sequence - I am wondering why not use just two shafts and alternate heddles as you say when the treddles 1 & 2 are pressed they lift alternate pairs of threads. Once again thank you so much for the time you take to explain everything with such clarity and precision. Best Wishes. Peter Caine.

Thank you so much Elizabeth! I have a question if you are still out there. I'm watching these great videos as I'm considering moving from my rigid heddle to a floor loom. Is this one you're showing in the video a jack or a counterbalance or? I'm trying to decide which might be best for me. Your videos are so helpful in seeing what the process is like.

Amanda Green Dear Amanda, Sorry this reply took so long, but for some reason I was sure I responded to your question. I couldn't find my reply, so I just wanted to make sure I wrote back to thank you for your kind compliment about my videos and to support your idea of moving to a floor loom. Mine is a jack style loom made by Harrisville Designs. They are probably the most common type of floor looms, and if I had to buy one again I probably choose a jack style or a countermarche loom. Good luck with you future weaving projects and thank you so much for watching! -Elizabeth

Ms. Wagner, i'm about to build a custom loom for some proects I'm working on. I firmly understand the function of all the various parts of the flying shuttle loom, but there is one part that I don't understand at all. What are the Warp Sticks used for? I think that is what they are called. The "sticks" that you see woven into the warp end of some weaver's looms. It doesn't look like you are using any, but do you know what they are for? Thank you!

I've recently purchased a used a used Lecrlec 45" sectional beam floor loom. Can I warp this loom by using a warping board only or do I need to have more equipment . hELP!

Dear Marilyn - Thank you for your post. Unfortunately, I have never worked with a sectional beam, but I believe you can also use an AVL warping reel (see instructional videos online) or just warp the loom without the 'sectional' set up. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance with your question. Best of luck!

My back warp beam doesn't have a metal rod. It has a wooden stick type thing and so does my front warp beam. Should I be using a metal rod? I was going to go my local hardware store and look for one. It seems like the metal rod would be stronger to work with and handle tension better. ........ I am now done threading my heddles so this is my next step.

Jessie - Loom companies sometimes use different materials to make the same part. You may have a Schacht loom - I know their warp 'rod' is actually a square shaped wooden piece instead of a round steel piece. It really doesn't matter what the part is made out of, it should work just fine either way; However, if you prefer, I guess you could change it to a steel rod if you're more comfortable with that. Best of luck!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I love your series of videos. I have watched many of them multiple times. They have been so helpful. I have a LeClerc loom and it does have a wood square stick so I might try switching.
