Paper Mache on Wire Frame (Quick Demo)

White Tissue Paper
Bailing Wire
Elmer's Glue All mixed with water (1/2 glue & 1/2 water)
Description:
Brush the watered glue thinly onto the tissue paper. Too much will cause the paper to tear. Gently stretch the paper over the wire, and fold or pat down.
Tip: cover the wire with latex paint, spray paint, or a layer of glue before adding paper mache to prevent rusting.
Repeat as many times as necessary until the desired thickness/durability is achieved.

thank goodness tissue paper is ok for mache

Would Modge Podge work in place of the Elmer's Glue? Also is it okay to paint over it with acrylic paint?
