- I got to ride Monster at Adventureland this summer, and it blew away my expectations. In this video, I break it down and compare it to America's other infinity coaster, Hangtime at Knott's Berry Farm.

I’ve heard people say the monster is one of the only rides where it’s a great thing that the trims hit so hard because it results in insane hangtime on the last few elements.
It's so true. That disappointment you usually have when you feel trims hit is replaced by joy when these trims hit, once you realize how it helps the ride. That sideways hangtime right after the trim might be the best moment on the ride.
Cannibal has a midcourse instead of trims but it’s the same concept there
I actually rode Monster just a couple weeks before you were there. Being an teacher an unable to travel very much, my current coaster count is only about 37 with that trip to Adventureland. I loved Monster enough to have it at the moment be at #5 in my very short list of credits, right in between Incredible Hulk at Islands of Adventure and Patriot at Worlds of Fun.
Adventureland is my home park and I was beyond excited when I learned this small park was getting it. I've ridden it countless times and it's still very fun. Between Monster and Outlaw which is an okay woodie this park is worth the visit if just to get these two credits. I'm hoping they will do something with the rest of the land that Dragon sat on. We got the S&S Free spin this year which is ok. I'd like them to either RMC Tornado (but I'm not sure the park has that kind of money) or tear down tornado and get a Chance Hyper GTX maybe or maybe even a small family woodie like Kentucky Flyer. Adventureland is literally right in my backyard, and I’ve heard whispers about Monster. This video has solidified my desire to ride it now!
Six flags great America used to be super close to me, I could literally see the giant drop from my high school library and in gym class, we had to run on the path next to our school and you could see the American Eagle, I used to ride my bike to six flags all the time and then I moved a little bit further where I could still ride my bike there, I used to ride there right before lunch ended and then I would eat lunch there and then I would leave the park and then come back in and use my twin brothers pass to get in again because we look the same and I would use his pass and mine to get 2 dinners and then bring them home, I would do that like 3 or 4 times a week but then I moved again and now I live just to far away, like 15 miles so I can’t ride their and with all of this f@ke Covld crap, I don’t even want to go their anymore. I can’t wear an oxyg3n restrlcting m@sk because of medicaI reasons and I am actually exempt from having to wear a ma$k but six flags is breaking the Iaw and vioIating the Amerlcans with Dissabilitles Act by not allowing those with medical conditlons who are unable to wear a m@sk to enter the park. Me and a group of other people are still going to c0urt to $ue them over it. Also if you are wondering why I am speIling words weird, it’s because UA-cam deIetes all comments and videos about any of this stuff, seriously. Because I am from Europe, I can talk about the European coasters... And I rode almost every new generation Gerstlauer (except for Smiler). They are different from each other, offering sensations that no other Gerstlauer offers. Mistyc is gorgeous, Karacho is one of the best compact launch coasters I ever ridden, and Karnan has that special element inside the tower (spoiler free ;p ) that it is unique.
Hang time looks like another great Gerstlauer, but has nothing to make it unique. Monster, on the other hand, has those low speed rare inversions that look very fun :D
I’m so excited for the end of the year to see your top 100, but next year I’ll be anticipating so much more with all the top rides coming out
The Monster is great however the tornado is still my fave at Adventureland. Its just so classic.

It has airtime, a beond vertical drop, slow hangtime filled inversions, and a trim that improves the ride experience. How does that last one make any sense?

Monster is AMAZING! That first drop is intense. It’s awesome to be able to walk around the entire coaster. Dispatch is usually super fast. That dive loop is CRAZY front row, outer right. I need to get there sometime at night to experience the lights. I look forward to seeing your park review.

The only infinity coaster ive ridden is The Smiler and as the prototype, I dont think they did a bad job at all. Its got a few rough patches (especially the final 3 inversions) but the other 11 smooth inversions plus the crazy airtime hill more than make up for it. But, the restraints on here also tighten really easily and by the time your sat on the brakes, it can be quite painful.

The only Infinity coaster I’ve ridden is The Smiler and I don’t have a problem with the OTSRs on that, mainly because with all those inversions it’s decreases the likelihood of banging into the person next to you during it.
The only problem I have with them is how much they tighten by the end, and it doesnt sound like thats any better with the infinities with lap bars either
@@coasterking4661 for me I’m the perfect size so that OTSRs don’t tighten on me, so the smiler was fantastic and gave great ejector airtime for me
My sister and I always wanted to go there when we were visiting relatives. My parents would always say “maybe next time” or “maybe on the way home”. That never happened. My dad probably would have, but my mom hated doing anything that could be considered fun.
Went to knotts for the first time thanksgiving week. Hangtime was good. Didn’t expect much. Got a half good ride. Was fun!
My friend went a few months ago and really enjoyed Monster. It looks great!
This is at my home park. Still enjoy rides on it and have gotten some good marathons in of Monster. My favorite moment is the hang time on the Finnish loop. I highly recommend a night ride since the lighting is really good and really adds to the experience.
I love Monster, by far my favorite Gerstlauer for sure and its probably going to stay that way until I visit parks internationally

I’ve ridden the smiler, Karnan, fury, mystic, gold rush, monster and hangtime. I would say that karnan and smiler are basically neck and neck in terms of overall experience. For me I’m a sucker for inversions so that’s why I like the smiler so much. And the theming on both of them is equally great so that’s why they’re equal for me. From what I’ve seen, you would enjoy karnan a lot more however you would still like smiler quite a lot too and it would probably be in ur top 25. Next I would say it’s mystic and then I would say fury and monster are about the same. Then gold rush then hangtime.

LOVE Monster, we hit Arnold's Park in the morning last Summer and were hoping for night rides at Adventureland. Sadly a big storm came through in the afternoon and they shut the park down. But the rides I had in 2020 were outstanding. And for only being 2500 feet the ride experience felt complete. More smaller parks need Infinity coasters ASAP!!!!
Monster is in my personal top 5. It was a phenomenal experience for me!

I had the spiciest take for a hot minute where I preferred Monster to Maverick. Lately I've kinda changed my mind because my preferences changed, but Monster still gives probably "the" best hangtime I've experienced on a coaster
I prefer it to Maverick as well
At one point, I had them ranked very close. I keep loving Maverick more with every ride, but that would probably be true of Monster as well, if I got out there more.
I actually live less than 10 min away from adventureland and I go there every year, and by far, the monster is the ride I've been on the most

Yessssss this is my home park
ive rode monster. i thought it was an amazing experience, you get a really good experience in the front, but on that airtime hill you actually get some flo-jector airtime in the back (or atleast thats what i remember, i rode this thing in its opening month, and last summer too. the airtime wasn’t as strong this summer, but it was still good) Overall, really great ride. It would probably rank somewhere in my top 20 (i havent been on a lot of coasters)
Gerstlaurer does like their surprise ejector hills, like the one on smiler where you get blinded by a spray of water and out of your seat with strong ejector for a few seconds.
I went to lagoon yesterday when I rode cannibal I just realized when wicked go’s upside down it was deferent than the turns on cannibal. Also cannibals my favorite ride in the park.
Gold Rush is the only Infinity I've been on, and the thing is INSANE. Monster sure looks cooler, but I don't think it's better. I hope a clone of GR will come to the states, I think It'll be an amazing addition to parks this size.
I like Monster far more than HangTime, and I feel that I'm one of the biggest fans of HangTime there is. Out of 498 credits, Monster is still in my top 25. All other coasters that you referenced in this video, I have those ranked in about the same spots. I think Monster got higher for me because I have been able to experience it at night, quite a bit on my 2 visits there. The surrounding darkness & light package enhances the ride experience.

For your end of year rankings, you should do a two-parter with #100-51 in one section and your top 50 in the second.
Hangtime is awesome.it suits So-Cal's environment. Alot of stuff we have isn't appealing to outsiders because it's special specifically to our history and culture. Also, Knott's Berry Farm is really Small being that it's in the middle of a crowded area. Knott's is the size of a medium sized apartment complex
I recently got rides #2 and 3 on Smiler and it leapt up my rankings ahead of Nemesis and some other great rides like Alpengeist and Apollo's Chariot. Would love Chris to get there one day and see what he thinks (if the track maintenance is OK)

Having been on Hangtime and come off dissapointed, Monster definitely seems like my best bet in America for a good Infinity, well outside of Cannibal which looks to do infinity-type coasters better than Gerst... outside of Smiler, Junker, and Karnan though, I'm not all that excited on this model seen as it has too big of a focus on hangtime and graceful transitions. If only they had longer trains and more elements akin to the dive loop featured on this ride...
Don't sleep on Fury at Bobbejaanland, it's a tad short, that's true, but it has a fun triple launch, is very fast throughout its layout and some really good elements, especially when riding backwards.
Wait what’s the difference between a infinity and a eurofighter because I want to say you are forgetting tmnt shellraiser but I don’t know gerstauler models.
@@zyuukii Shellraiser indeed is a Eurofighter. These two models are pretty similar, you have some general differences bewteen the two, but almost all rules are broken by some coaster. For example most Eurofighters have Over-the-Shoulder-Restraints while most Infinity Coasters have lap bars, but there are The Smiler and Tantrum (among a few others), which reverse this. The easiest distinction are the trains, actually. Eurofighters always have just single cars (most of them having two rows of four, some older ones, like Dare Devil Dive and Anubis: The Ride have three rows of two) while Infinity Coasters have trains which consist of cars that each have one row of four seats. Compare the trains of Monster to the trains of TMNT Shellraiser and you can see what I mean 🙂

Wonder what went wrong with Hangtime. Constricting layout due to location or bigger cars? To me it’s just subpar compared to the top 2 in that park. Of course I feel the same way about Silver Bullet. Just underwhelms compared to other B&M inverts.such a shame considering the attendance that park gets to not be rewarded with elite rides like other Cedar Fair top parks.
Knotts is just so cramped and confined in space, it really limits what they can do there. Ghostrider works so well because they were able to get out into the parking lot to give it room...

I wish I could provide a better comment, because I've ridden The Smiler, Saw, and Hangtime, but not Monster. All I can say is: of (at least) the three Gerstlauers I've ridden, The Smiler is my favourite. For me possibly ties with Icon as the U.K.s best coaster.

I have never been on an American gertslaur but I have been on the smiler at my home park Alton towers and Kärnan at Hansa park Germany
Both very cool rides, like monster, karnan has unexpected elements while the smiler is still unexpected but can be rough in some spots but is still cool with the shear amount of inversions

How is monster classed as a infinity coaster when it’s only got 2 rows like shellraiser is classed as a eurofighter and monsters way more similar to that then like smiler or karnan
The easiest distinction are the trains. When you look at a Eurofighter, they have just one car with two rows, while the Infinity trains consist ofmultiple cars with one row each, two cars in this case.

My biggest unpopular opinion: I like Spongbob Rock Bottom Plunge better than Monster. Monster is smooth, graceful, and filled with hangtime, whereas SRBP is whippy, intense, and bumpy (closer to my coaster preferences).
It’s like Banshee vs Batman clones. Most people prefer the former, but there’s def a few who like the latter more

There's no airtime on the airtime hills so what's the point of two big airtime hills and how is it a premium coaster for a channel named airtime thrills? LOL
this video made me think of how the US has the weaker infinities it seems. monster looks great but junker looks like a better version of it. hangtime looks to be on the lower end of the infinities and then karnan, smiler and karacho look better than both of them. this model definitively needs to settle into the US market for longer.
