My father and I would like to thank you very much for helping us correctly understand and diagnose our 1988 560SL I'm currently restoring. There is a lot of CIS information out there but 90% of them didn't help us understand the operation of this complex design. Thank you again for helping us and others! sincerly Mark and William.

I have a 89 560 SL. The fuel distributor needs to be rebuilt There is no one in our area capable. Can you rebuild it if it is shipped to you? Your videos are outstanding. I’m a car guy but not on these. And don’t want to risk it. Let me know. Thanks.

What causes the engine to vibrate more when it is hot than cold?
I ask you to make a video and mention all the reasons that lead to engine vibration

Pierre, also this only occurs on hot restart and when ambient temps are hot,no hesitation no trouble on starting cold and only 50, miles on this car. Injectors, caps, rotors, plungs ,EHA valve and Idle control valve new. Shop told me intake leak was caused and after repair, it still did same thing. Any suggestions, comment would be greatly appreciated. Last but certainly not least, excellent videos and keep up the great work. Regards from Calgary ,Canada

    Hi guys,
What other cars during that period use? Is this fuel distributor too complicating that renders it ineffective and unrepairable.
Dont think most mechanics know how it works now, and how to service this part. So w124 with M103 engines will be harder to maintain?

Aloha Pierre I have a 1990 420SEL with fuel issues that line up exact with what this 3 part video speaks of. I attempted to replace the seals and diaphragm that come with the simple kits but made it worse. Can you recommend a reputable place where I can purchase the fuel distributor and actuator? Any help is appreciated. Mahalo

I take it you are referring to the electronic position sensor in the 1976-85 distributor. The only way to really check this is with an ohm meter. if the sensor is tootal open, then it's bad. These rarely fail. I find the ignituion control unit is usually the issue.

Hi, I once bought a used 1974 450Slc for $1200 in 1999 kept it until 2002 I ended up donating it all because the car did not go forward nor in reverse, I towed it to a Mercedes dealer and they could not figure it out at the time, I assumed it would be the tranny, the car drove very nice I replaced the injectors with new Bosch $2000 replacements
at the time at a Mercedes dealer. The car when I bought it had a potent odor of fuel in the interior of car every time I drove it . I would like to
get a used 380 SL which year or years do you recommend .

Can you run the fuel pump on a separate line whit a different relay to only be on the key position to run . The fuel pump runs constant wen the car is running anyway and is not control by ECU is a independent system if you get a good relay and connected properly it should run wright???

technically you could....i have taken the ecu out of the equation before..you just need to change the trigger wire from an ECU wire to an ignition hot.

it sounds to me like the electrohydraulic actuator is either bad or has a blocked screen. The EHA is an expensive part, and when it fails it can cause such a lean mixture that the engine will not rev beyond 1100 rpm. you may also have a blocked catalytic converter, or you may hav a fuel distributor issue...the fuel distributor can be tested using pressure gauges, see link below:

Hi, Pierre! I have a 1988 300E that has not been run for 10 years. I drained the tank and replaced the fuel filter. I cracked the fittings at both the supply and return sides of the fuel distributor and have good pressure at both places, but, when I crack the fittings at the fuel injectors, I see that I'm not getting pressure there.
Could ethanol/gasoline sitting in the distributor for 10 years have rotted the seals so badly that there would be no supply getting to the injectors?

Hello Pierre, Can you tell me what the voltage should be at the idle control valve, and at the EHA valve. Having hot restart and stumbling issues on a 1990 SL500/ AMG 6LTR 280 KW. Please and thank you ,also where does this voltage and or signals come from?

    • @mercedesclassicswithpierre1753
      @mercedesclassicswithpierre1753  7 років тому

      Marino,
voltage at idle air valve: minimum 7 volts, maximum 13.5- usually operates in the 11-12.5 volt range
EHA: voltage should oscillate between +1 milli-amp and -1 milliamp
these signals originate from the KE control unit and the KE control unit takes power through the over voltage protection relay. Both of these are located in the right rear section of the engine, under the large plastic cover.
The hot start issue could likely be the following:
      -fuel pressure accumulator
      -lean mixture from electro-hydraulic actuator
-a bad fuel pump check valve
      - a fuel distributor that is dumping its resting pressure back to the return side
