I'm always impressed with these modern "tiny" engines and how technology and gear ratios have overcome their small size. The Astra K is so well appointed too. Nicely driven! (You probably didn't get a good economy reading for these runs, but that wasn't he point I guess!)
Agree.. Had Alfa gtv v6 2.0 TB. Max speed was same 230
I hate this trend towards the smaller capacity engines with turbo chargers just to improve emissions. I would have a bigger capacity engine that isn't being overworked and less noisy any day. The fun in driving is now over thanks to the eco warriors making all the stupid decisions!
@@Romulan2469 The 1.2t is successor to 1.6-1.8 NA with 115-140 ps, and Your arguments are invalid. Turbo engine works much quieter, drive this 1.2t (or give it to someone who is not emotionally convinced) and the results would be: much more power in mid range, a lot better fuel economy, less power in low range ( -1800 rpm ). If You want bigger "not overworked" engine (how You meassure that Mr. engineer?) go buy Mazda with 2.0 120 ps.
@@Romulan2469 I'm just impressed that a small "eco" engine is capable of such output. I know what you're saying though... I suppose we're on a path toward "all electric", so let's "enjoy" the last era of fuel burning engines while we still can - no matter how small they are!

@Medvescak Medvescak the top speed I think is special onestly.. The acceleration is goed but due the long gears is not aggressive.. Look. Also at the fiesta 1.0turbo 125hp..or the focus.. For such a small engine.. Is crazy.. My lancia y elefantino rosso from. 2000 has 86 hp and 900 kg and was fast at the time.. Now a kia picanto is faster
Don't forget that the speedo adds about 10 maybe 15 kmh at this speed

240 km/h on the speedo is quite impressing for that small 3cyl. engine! Even if the speedo is massively overrunning, it is still at least 220 km/h in reality.

got an 2017 astra k and at 239 speedo indicator the actual GPS speed is roughly 227
on my astra its ~ -8km/h while i was driving 230km/h
Top speed was about 240 km/h (a lil downhill) and 230 km/h straight…For a 1.2 Engine with only 3 cyl it’s good and fast enough 👍

For 1.2 3 cyl engine, it's pretty damn fast. My 2.0 4 cyl diesel is noticeably slower than this thing

@@konradkurcz2999Of course transmission is absolutely hi tech nowadays, turbos are like respirators for patiens. Air intake engine lose power while suffering to breathe, turbo engines doesn't have that issue, instead they deliver the power more efficiency to the transmission.

Damn. I have to say I was really impressed by the performance and design/quality of the interior.
That's got to be 230km at least. And that from a tiny three banger...more than impressive. That engine sure will give bimmers and mercs a good run for their money and also a very suitable candidate for engine swaps for other tiny cars with underpowered three bangers.
Astra K was the very last GM developed car model... with the Opel uprated PSA 1.2L motor. The Opel engineers had a point to prove/opportunity when asked to fit this motor into Astra K... Last chance to calibrate a motor without formal approval from new PSA owners... so they knocked it out the park with 107kw from 1.2L.....and the top speed from the CD drag of only 0.26.
Sure, it's a good engine, the last completely own engine Opel will ever make, so this was made especially lavish and good as a historical message. But it is not the engine that gives high top speed but the low air resistance, this has Cw 0,26, Sports Tourer has Cw 0,25, it is crucial for top speed and also for low fuel consumption.
The 1.2 is not from Opel. Its a pure PSA engine, they build it for at least 8 years already. ;)
@@Parabolic179 When the three new engines, two 1.2 and a 1.5 GM Diesel came in the summer of 2019, everyone thought it was PSA engines, I alone outside Opel knew that it was Opel engines and had a lot to do with informing all journalists about it, finally they changed their minds and started talking about how surprised they were at this strange thing...
But some were never reached by that information, apparently there are still some who do not know this - due to lack of interest in Opel, I guess.
This 1.2 is based on the engine block from Opel's previous 2014 3-cylinder engine but is so rebuilt that it is in practice a new engine.
Opel was actually first in Europe with a petrol-powered 3-cylinder engine in 1997 and with that engine Opel switched to camshaft chain on all subsequent new engines, with the exception of the Diesel engines which in the future would not be designed by Opel but instead by GM in Italy, this particular engine also had the news that oil could be changed from above, it had a new type of oil filter.
By the way, you may not know that the 3-cylinder PSA is rebuilt for 2022 with a Opel camshaft chain instead of the PSA timing belt - which has had many errors, this is done by PSA, but the reason is that it was judged that Opel's method with Chain on the engines is better so that change is inspired by Opel.

This Astra is fast for a three cylinder engine.
149mph is very good for a tiny 1.2 litre turbo engine and its 3 cylinder as well , i have a 1.1 Colt which is 3cylinder engine and that can just hit 120mph on a down hill motorway so i need to put a turbo on it next LOL

My grandma drives an Opel Astra k from 2022, 110 hp, top speed 220kmh. I think that's absolutely awesome for a mid-range car.
I rented an Astra in 2013 from Frankfurt. The top speed hasn't changed much, 225kmh on the speedo and 221kmh on my GPS.
I couldn't believe it.
Yeah, petrol astras are light, under 1300 kg if I am not mistaken ...

145 HP out of a 3 Zylinder 1.2l engine. Mustve be a big turbo. This numbers are insane.. also the 240kmh wtf!! I thought it makes like 210kmh maximum.
I own Geely Coolray (based on Volvo xc40 engine and gearbox for Asian market and produced in Belarus) so it has 1.5 liter 3 cyl engine gaining 177HP. It drives impressive i must say

Not sure about that. My Chevy Cruze has an Opel 1.4 turbo and the turbine itself is so minuscule it'd probably fit in your hand. But it's pretty darn quick for 153ps. It also goes over 240.
Imagine drive your BMW 530i flat out and astra 1.2 join the party. By the way this engine sounds also like bmw 6 cylinder. Obviously half 6 cylinder thats why and amazing refined with zero vibrations. I read before 2 weeks remaped to 170hp. This is the best 3 cylinder out there along with Yaris GR with 1600cc and almost a race car. And very sad because this is a rare engine now. 1.2 (145hp) Sold from late 2019 and now discontinued with the new Astra and psa engines. Few 145hp sold here.
Of ten sold 1.2 liters in Switzerland, 9 have the 130 hp version. But the difference is only the software, cutting the extra power in ranges which you hardly reach in Switzerland with speed limit of 120 km/h. If you want 145 hp, get it mapped at the dealer, have it approved by the registration office and you are good to go.

Ich habe mir den gleichen 1,2 Liter Turbo für die täglichen Fahrten in Geschäft gekauft und war anfangs sehr skeptisch.
Die Skepsis wich aber der Begeisterung ein vollwertiges gut ausgestattetes Auto mit enormen Stauraum zu fahren welches nie mehr als 6 Liter/100 km verbraucht sondern deutlich weniger je nach Verkehrsdichte sogar unter 5 Liter/100 km.
Das hätte ich nicht erwartet.
Topspeed habe ich bisher nicht ausprobiert, ist für mich aber auch irrelevant.
Eben. Ich hab mir das obige Modell neu (allerdings mit klassischer Handbremse) so als daily für die Arbeitswege und eine handvoll Male im Jahr längere Strecken gekauft. Als ich das erste Mal über die Woche einen Durchschnitt von 4.5 Litern Super hatte, hat mein Nachbar gelacht und meinte, dass ich spinne. Jetzt mit knapp 30.000 km liegt der Dauer-Schnitt bei 4.9 Litern. Einfach irre, wie wenig dieses Auto an Benzin verbraucht (nicht Diesel, wohlgemerkt).

I have the 1.4t 150hp of which this is the more eco friendly replacement. These cars suprise a lot of people.
I also drive the 1.4T. I got to 236 km/h, but had to slow down due to two trucks overtaking each other. lmao

I drive this car too. Every day Autobahn 60.000 km, never had a problem. Except 10 litres/100 km 😁 But only 6 if I drive 140.

All these high power turbo charged micro 3cyl engines are all good and fun when new, but how long will they hold up for? They run oil with the viscosity of water, I can't see them lasting much more than 100k miles.

It's all fun and cool that this 1.2 3 cylinder is really quick for such a small engine in a big car like this and how efficient it is, but it makes me think how long this car will really last, I'll be surprised if it cracks 200k km. It's just too much power squeezed out of a tiny engine.
I have the "old" 1.0 with 105 hp.. And it has driven almost 250.000 km now.. No problems ever !
@@andersnielsen6044 I recently replaced pistons, piston rings and valves in a Opel Meriva B 1.4 turbo... 140hp from that little thing, didn't even make it to 150k km...

Exactly! I have my 2.0l Insignia with 250HP and I'm keeping it. No way am I downsizing to a very small engine like this being overworked to death and then resulting in engine failure just to please some eco warriors. My Insignia has been the most reliable model to date and I have owned Corsa and Astras.

Was für eine lange Getriebeübersetzung für so eine kleine Maschine, unglaublich dass man bei diesem Auto die 200 km/h im 6ten Gang bei 4000 1/min erreichen kann. Mein Fiat Bravo mit 1.4 Turbo 150 PS erreicht im 6ten Gang bei 4000 1/min nur 160 km/h, ich hätte mir auch eine lange Getriebeübersetzung gewünscht ..
Den gleichen habe ich auch, aber mit besserer Ausstattung. Ja, der Motor ist Top 👍Und vor allem der Durchzug vom 3.ten bis zum 5.ten Gang 👍
Das liegt auch am phänomenal CW Wert, der genau so gut ist wie beim Opel Calibra👍
Ich Fahre den Corsa E 120 Jahre Edition... Immer wen ich den Innenraum vom Astra K sehe denke ich mir es ist wie im Corsa nur halt etwas Größer. Und schlecht fährt der nicht.

I have the same car. It changes btw 7 to 9 liters. Hard to see under 7 but it is easy to see more than 9 if you push further

in 99.9 percent of the time, it will be used below 150 km/h. In that range, the car is quick enough. So, well done, GM.

Vauchall speedo, I had 122mph out of a 1.4 Nova, then 140mph from a Nova gte. Speedo were 20mph optimistic.

Good top speed and power but how long will that engine last? Any detail on the reliability?
If it's based on the PSA engine, they have a timing belt that runs in oil. Many of those expired at relatively low mileages due to the belt depositing rubber particles in the sump, blocking the oil pick-up.

Ich habe auch den Astra K 1.2 mit 145 PS. Eigentlich ein klasse Auto aber bei meinem war am ersten Tag schon ein Problem mit dem Display. Das bleibt einfach schwarz. Bin sehr gespannt was da los ist.

I have same car but in Spain max speed is 120km/h because the country is full of cameras everywhere. I'm more concerned about getting fined than having an accident. We suck as country in all senses.

My 2006 Astra 1.4 auto barely reaches 120 kmh for the past few years....
I owned the same :D it was okay till 140 (by speedometer and 126 by GPS) Any further attempt to reach 160-170 takes infinity :D

I have Astra k with 1.4 Turbo, 150hp, now 175hp with stage 1 chip tuning, and max speed was around 236kmh! This guy is going downhill...the only reason to rich 240
Numbers are good.....But what about lifetime of that engine?Thermal load is big for that engine.
In a Hungarian website I read that one of the pistons punctured in a 1.6T Astra at 85 000 km. So the owners do not have to worry about the corrosion of the chassis at least. :D
