A lot of people get confused when they hear British pronunciation. We pronounce words like 'bath' with two different vowel sounds. Learn how and when to pronounce the /ɑː/ sound with a British accent in this video from ETJ English

I love the way you talk. I don’t need subtitles. It’s so non-native-friendly. 🥰
I found your channel today and I'm totally in love! Can hear you for hours. I'm feeling like my love for England and English-language gets bigger and bigger. Thank you and greetings from Poland!

There's been a definite improvement in my English since i started to watch your videos, Thanks a lot.
greatings from Brazil!
I always wondered how we began to speak here in Texas using the vowel sounds we use. After seeing this, now I know it was the Southern England people who brought their style of speech to our area. Of course, it's mixed with german and irish and scottish people accents too.
I'm Brazilian and I love british accent but it's kinda hard for me.
You help me a lot teacher
Thanks 💘
The more I listen to your explanations the more I live them.
I'm a dentist and I loved this lesson 🙂
It's so interesting to find a dentist watching Elliott's vedios 😂❤ respect from my heart sir💜
Respect from Syria 💙💙
I am a medicine student struggling for my English phonetics lectures 😂😂
The french girl understood everything and loved. Good lesson ! :)
I'm from Brazil, I've lived in Dublin and learned English here with Irishs, Polishes, Ameircan teachers using British books... It's a messy 😰 lol But your classes have helped me a lot! Thanks so much 😘😘☘️

Thank you Elliott, I have watched (listened) all your lessons and you helped me a lot with my English pronunciation! 😍 My exam with English speaking yesterday went so well, I got 100%. Thank you, you are the best. 😊
Hello! I’m glad my videos helped you with your speaking exam. I hope you get the results you want. Good luck! 🤓
Thank you sir, I been trying to understand what's the difference between those 2 sounds and how to pronounce them, but now is making sense , thanks again 👍
I like your accent ☺️👌you're a great teacher, It's a pleasure to learn English with you
Great video! I'm an 'advanced learner' and I've found this very helpful, especially the remark about southern speakers also using the short, /æ/ sound.
I'd have love to have a teacher like you when I was at the university. You are the best!!
Waw this is so far my favourite teacher, I started with a random video and I can't stop! Keep it up and thank you for these awesome videos
Omg this is so hard to practice. But thank you Elliott, youre the best teacher ever!
Being an American, I find that the British accent tends to be more what I call "sing songy". Where Americans are more abrupt. Like you say, there are several accents in the UK and also in the US, and depending on where you are, the sound and pronunciation are quite different. I just found your channel and have found your style of teaching very nice and quite easy to follow. Thank you! 😀
I'm quite impressed how clearly the words come out of your mouth Elliott. It's rather difficult to hear people speak like this down the streets.
How have the UA-cam videos on pronunciation affected the way you speak on a daily basis?
The traditional RP way! What I always wanted! Thank you very much : )
Well... I love Your accent.
Thanks a lot from Mexico :)
I didn't find any word to describe you . you're the best teacher ever. love you 💖
This has been really useful. All the instructions are Great, is the first video that explain what to do with the tounge, in other just you have to see, hear and repeat, but if you are alone nobody make the corrections.
Thanks Elliot! My pronunciation is getting better! Now i can focus on the accent!
I'm so happy to have your videos, I'm a german girl and I really want to speak British English, it's my dream to spend one day, my time in england or London. Even if my english isn't the best at the moment. Thank you so much for these videos :D
This is super useful for me. We don't have the long vowel as in 'b(a+e)th' in our language which makes it so hard to get the right pronunciation. I don't have the IPA symbols on my phone. Thanks Elliot again!
It's good. All this time I was confused in distinguishing the pronunciation of ‘a’ whether it was a British or Amarican accent
Muchas gracias por compartir y enseñarnos, desde🇦🇷
i will watch your videos probably this summer
i wanna learn something and improve myself
aaand i love hearing accent
thank You!
Thanks Elliott

The reason your Dentist asks you to make an "Aaaah" sound is so they can check the back of your mouth /throat, and to see how your uvula moves. They are checking for signs of Oral Cancer, really. it is also their sneaky way to get you to show more of your mouth so they can get a closer look at it before REALLY getting a look at it! ;)
Because i am currently working on a series of UA-cam Videos where one of my characters is going to be a British Dental Assistant. I am making Role Plays to help people overcome Dental fears. Your Dentist comment ironically came at the right time. ;) Say "Aaaah!" and don't forget to smile. :] Cheers from Edmonton City, Canada.
If all English teachers could be like you, accents won't be a problem.. you're are really great!
Good
thanks Elliot ..
thanks a lot...
for always teaching us
love from Indonesia.
Wow 💖
You're an amazing teacher.
thank you so much for sharing good things. This video is useful.
I look forward to seeing your new video. 😊 👍
Absolutely loved this lesson, and the exciting “bye” as well :))
Mentioning "Harry potter" it brought to my mind when you were talking about the word "rubbish" in a previous video,
I didn't know before that it was a British idiom! And all I remembered was that I used to use it fluently and spontaneously since I first heard it in harry potter from "Fred and George" while they're objecting, when I was a little girl!
i am from Bangladesh.
Just wow! I really love to watch all of your videos.
Keep it up!
Thanks so much! I've been waiting this video for so long.
Your videos are extremely helpful Elliott. Thanks a lot.
Now I know why I have to say ɑː every time I see the dentist! Thank you! ahaha
Hello there, just bumped into your videos not long ago, shame on me :P .... I just wanted to drop a few lines with you and say that your vids are rilly rilly good, you are doing an utterly good job on explaining how and what to do with the tongue, very helpful for me since I teach ESL kor kids in Budapest. By the way I showed last week a vid you made about idioms and the kids are over the moon about you. They just love you, its plain obvious that you are born for this and you have such a passion for English. Its quite catchy. British English is my one and only
Thank you Elliot, im trying my best to pronounciate as British as i can,

If you saw GoT , u can see the differences between /a:/ and /ae/ with Jon Snow accent vs Tyrion in few words

Thank you so much , very useful lesson .😊🌹
hello, Elliot! I love your videos so much! do you have a similar video showing the difference between the /e/ and /ae/ sounds?
Dearest Elliott, I can’t honestly focus with your YT discussion. You’re actuations and vid edits are distracting me, figuratively. It is just cuteness overload every time you enunciate those words with your accent followed by your head movements. So, I decided to download and convert your tutorials to MP3 instead. I know it’s weird. Lol.
P.S. I hope this message will not be misconstrued. It is just an honest sentiment. You’re doing well. 😉
Please..could you make another videos about explaining other similar vowels songs??Plz..your videos are useful to me!Sound like ɔ ʊ ɛ ɜ etc
thanks for your teaching
Thanks, this is very useful example our students! I would like to embed this in one of our language learning pages.

The /æ/ sound is quite difficult to make for me. I just can center it like an /ä/ or raise it like an /ɛ/but not the actual /æ/ sound...
:(
