    Yes, I agree. This engineer is very professional and has taken into account many factors to be implemented o contribute t this excellently designed aircraft. Apart from the beautiful exterior design, the aircraft is well-equipped internally with a nice interior ay-out. Well done to the Pepistel team!!!

      @Matthew Lee No! An engineer is creating the beauty of a device. A designer is just a slave of fashion. Fashion is usually trash. Fashion follows function (perhaps along the wrong path).

    Obviously well thought out. +200 kts.!Had a 182 for years and loved it. 145 kts. But, a lot of money to fly around and rarely justifiable in terms of business cost.This plane will be expensive to acquire and not cheap to maintain.But, there will be a market for it.

    This is the plane that checks all my boxes. Performance in speed and efficiency. Fantastic engineering and beautiful execution. I would love to see this in person. When might this become available in the U.S.? Will there be a display at some airshows in the U.S.? Its been 5 years since this video. Where is this fine aircraft? I agree with previous comments, the guy in the video explaining all the features did a terrific job. Someday I will trade in my pride and joy for this incredible aircraft.

      Jim Braun nearly rich? I think you mean ridiculously rich. The problem I see with all these half million dollar sport planes is that anyone wealthy enough to own one would have no need or desire for it. Why buy a 4 place slow prop plane when you can afford a private G5 and personal pilot?

    Good luck to Pipistrel, very arguably the most innovative designer and manufacturer of light single engine aircraft. Me thinks the Panthera is going to eat Cirrus's and the Cessna 400 Corvalis for lunch! What's more, the price will be less than a Cessna 182NXT (the new diesel) currently punted at a base price of about US$520k.

    • @The_McRib
      @The_McRib 7 років тому +1

      Well yeah but the Carbon Cub only seats two and flies at half the speed. It's like comparing a Porsche and a Nissan Micra. You're right about the Turboprop but it still costs $550'000 new, which is the same as this, so we'll have to see how much cheaper this plane is second hand before passing judgement. I'm personally quite wary about buying second hand kitplanes anyway.

      Panthera will be closer to 600k in reality, but that is the price for what this plane delivers. Personal planes are expensive, if you only want a hobby plane you can buy a 50 year old cessna for 50-100k and you are done.

  • @douglasmcintyre3297
    @douglasmcintyre3297 6 років тому

    Assume Pipistrel's published full fuel payload of 870 pounds. Four 189 pound passengers and 100 pounds of baggage equals 864 pounds, so the airplane should be able to fly safely within its's C of G limit with the seats, tanks and baggage area maxed out. That is pretty damn good. So there is room for about 16 pound of extra passenger weight to get to the 870 lb limit. Put one fat guy in the airplane and Pipistrel's numbers no longer apply.
    I don't believe the IO-360 engine will deliver its high cruise speed burning only 10 gallons per hours. More like 11-12 gph. Nevertheless the Panthera's stated range of 1000 statute miles, the aircraft's fuel capacity of 55.4 gallon of avgas at its "performance cruise" of 181 knots at 8,000 feet burning 10 gallons per hour, the airplane should have enough endurance to fly for about 5.5 hours to dry tanks, or 181 x 5.5 which equals 996 statute miles. That is awfully close to 1000. But that is a deceiving figure, since no sane pilot attempts to land with less than about 45 -60 minutes of fuel reserve. So the Panthera's real-world range is 814 statute miles, or 708 nautical miles. With speed further reduced to 155 knots at 12,000 feet Pipistrel claims the Panthera will fly 1000 nautical miles carrying four 189 pound occupants with a 45 minute fuel reserve, taking almost six and a half hours to do so. Also the Panthera's service ceiling of 20,000 feet seems a bit pointless, since normally aspirate aircraft are usually operated no higher than about 10,000 feet.
    So the Panthers marketing claims of 1000 nautical miles range and 200 knots cruise speed carrying four passengers are correct. Sadly, not all three at the same time.

    This is a great looking aircraft. I'm thinking on waiting for an electric when the batteries are a little better. Right now they need more flying time and distance. Speed is there..but they need longer life between charging. We're only looking at maybe 5 more yrs. and there will be flying cars and copter drone type craft available to everyone with mid- income. I expect E-Hang and Aeromobile to be the first available. E-hang can be purchased now I think...if you're rich...

    Pipistrel has reported to Flying that its Panthera four-seater aircraft development program is suffering a considerable delay. The holdup, according to Pipistrel CEO Ivo Boscarol, is due to Lycoming's decision not to certify its four-cylinder IO-390 engine for auto fuel use, a key feature for Pipistrel in creating the Panthera. Lycoming declined to comment on the claim for this story...

      No idea myself, but gotta figure it's a good idea. With the landing gear designed to absorb additional shock, you'd figure dropping the gear will help save the airframe further damage once you hit. The only exception would be water, of course.

    • @Jwmbike14
      @Jwmbike14 10 років тому

      I saw the same thing, tried research and couldn't find anything.... First thought was a hidden pitot static system. I got this idea from the hidden pitot static system that Cory Bird incorporated on his Symmetry. Not only that, but I have yet to see where the Pipistrel gets its air-sampling (Pitot-tube, etc...) However Naca inlets wouldn't work due to the disturbed airflow, etc, meaning it is horrible air for any kind of data sampling.
      This leads me to think that (if) they are located on both wingtips, it could be used to redirect a small portion of airflow, and release it at/in the trailing edge, or along the trailing edge to somehow reduce Tip Vortices. Another option would be simply trying to "suck in" a portion of the boundary layer, to either reduce span-wise flow out to the tips, and act as an invisible wing fence, meanwhile using the airflow for other systems, or simply releasing it elsewhere on the aircraft.
      These are just my own personal speculations... Would be VERY interested to find out the true reason.
      EDIT: After reading my second explanation, I realized it may not be very clear... Anyways, The idea I am trying to get across is that they my be trying to create a "void" or reduction in the air that would otherwise be "pushing out towards the tips." Similar to a wing fence, it would block the high pressure air on the bottom from traveling to the tips. Therefore reducing the amount of high pressure air available at the tips, to overtake the low pressure region on the top, thus reducing the vortex...

      The NACA vents are actually the fuel tank vents. They are in a location above the tanks due to the dihedral of the wing and least disruptive for drag (wing tips are already a turbulent airstream). Look at the Lancair IV with winglets. They use the exact design.

    Ok well without a doubt it is a beautiful sexy plane and we have been hearing and seeing how gorgeous and good it is,but the 20k question,the real concern,DOES IT FLIPPING FLY FOR GOD SAKES!!!You have had this plane constructed 6 months ago and we have never heard it or seen it fly.Has it been flown yet at all for god sakes?Most planes are flown within days of completion of prototype,you are yet to fly it after 1 year.

    How Cessna and Piper plan on competing with GA 4-place aircraft such as this (Panthera) and the Tecnam P-2010 is beyond me? I really feel that both Cessna and Piper should seriously consider modernizing their smaller 4-place aircraft designs or they are going to lose a lot of sales to both the Pipistrel Panthera and the Tecnam P-2010!
