Pipistrel Panthera - So is it as good as it looks?

- This video we’ll cover the Pipistrel Panthera which is currently in development, I’ll cover its features, the costs, performance, safety and competitors. The first things to note are its retractable landing gear and choice of MOGAS, electric or Hybrid engine! Yep the sleek design isn’t just for looks, but to make it more efficient, and friendlier to the environment and of course this means decent range and speed at a lower cost.

"Panthera achieves unprecedented efficiency through careful aerodynamic shaping, retractable undercarriage, lightweight composite structure, a tailor-made propeller and a dedicated performance exhaust system. Efficiency is translated directly into more speed for the same power. No other four-seat aircraft exists that flies this fast on the same engine! For the owner this represents significantly lower operating costs and simplified maintenance. The maximal range is available with any payload, something which pilots of four-seat airplanes have been wishing for. " Pipistrel

Good video and great review. Coverage like this, and the test flight, enticed me to buy one. After a year of ownership, I can agree with most everything you mentioned. The only claim they make that isn't completely accurate is the performance values. You can get almost 200kts, you can burn 10gph, and you can squeeze 1000 miles, but none at the same time. I typically cruise at 175kts indicated, burning 10.8 gph, and at 8,000' (65% power). This plane is no slouch. I love the airplane, had the Diamond DA-40, but no comparison.
Thanks for the clarification. I got that info from the description on Trade-a-plane. During recording I didn't think it sounded right. That is why I made adjustments on the video taking info from their official webite. I put a * next to the text on that one. Good spot though. Heck I'm jeallouse, I wish I could afford shuch a machine.
I believe this to be the best new airplane
Curt I believe that Pipistrel "fudged" the numbers by looking at TAS rather than IAS. So your 175 IAS @ 8000 (assuming ISA) is 197 kts True. So looks like this is better than Pipistrel are advertising as they say 198 True at 8000 @ 75% power rather than your 65%. I'm seriously looking at one (going to Aero 2023) to replace my aging TB-20. I'd be VERY interested in picking your brains!
Is the forward visibility really as poor as it seems? I've seen several reviewers mention it and (superficially at least) it does look like you can barely see over the panel when seated normally. Also the tail seems extremely close to the ground, I watched a few different instances of takeoff and landings with several pilots coming within a handful of centimetres of a tailstrike, so I wonder how it is in your experience?
@@karlfriedrich7758 Seeing over the instrument panel isn't bad for me, but I am 6'2" tall. The center pillar does make it difficult to taxi and creates a blind spot when flying. After having it for a year, I got used to it. The tail is close to the ground and on take off, you probably won't ever hit. When approaching for landing, you shouldn't flare too much, more like a Cirrus landing. Manage your approach and you won't see a tail strike. There is a "cushion" there, just in case.
Good video! Straight forward and clear!
Great video Mike!! Makes me wanna buy one!
Great Video! Nice review, and Beautiful Plane. Thank you!
Great review!!
Nicely done! Thanks much!
Diamond DA 50 would also be a very interesting video as it is also a direct competitor. Stay up the good work!
Cessna P210 - less than half the cost, all the speed, Flight level cruising and more useful load.
When a piston single approaches $1M … there are better options in the used market
Good video, great and thanks a lot.
Do you know the sling high wing?
Of course, it’s a smaller class of aircraft, but interesting for coasts and consume.
Have a nice day!
🔥
There's the Velocity aircraft I like the design reminds me off the Ez
No news on the Panthera for a year. Does anyone know what’s going on after the acquisition?
In my bucket list once I hit the fat boy. But, for now my Mini P-40 takes me everywhere. Thanks for the info.
I’d like to see Mike Patey build a more robust version of one with a PT6 in it, make a new speed record.
I love this plane. I mean, I'm not a pilot but follow and hope to be a pilot. Still, for it to be environment friendly truly, what type of fuel will it burn? Will it be the lead kind or no? I mean I'm still trippin' that lead is still accepted in the airplane world.
Anyhoo, I love that this is a 4 seater. Great speed as well. I heard though that the insurance for it is insane. I don't know why though. Hoping for a better future for this plane.
good video. I really like the Pipistrel designs. Make a video on Pipistrel Risen and glider. Is there really no US based manufactures to compete with these European designs?
Cirrus most sold GA aircraft in 20years
You didnt do your research, the 2019 gear landing accident while the board showed the gear was down while it was closed, where pipistrel said that its the fault of the pilot for not double checking and that the gear notification failure will be updated in order to prevent such error in the future!
Hello. What about Sling HW ?
Who is the manufacturer. How to cntanct them?
Risen 915 superveloce...ever ¡¡¡¡
My understanding is no insurance company wants to cover it.
The Panthera, one awesome aircraft. Interesting that at the 3:10 mark the pilot and passenger are wearing oxygen deprivation devices.
No they weren't. They were wearing regular masks for filtration. Probably was recorded during the Covid pandemic.
Corona times i think
