Autism Is Only Part Of Our Lives

- Autism isn't a good or a bad thing in our life... it just is. It makes up a large part of who Abbie is so it's a major influence on our lives. Autism is just part of our lives. Every aspect of our life is affected one way or another by the needs of our autistic child just like it is by our neurotypical child.

Aww Maverick on the bed with Abbie adorable!😁❤️💕
Jewell Johnson I agree.
The Abbie Effect: Abbie effected the lives of many people today, including an unborn child. I will give you the abridged version: today, I went to my OB/GYN office for some routine blood work. The waiting room is usually filled with pregnant women, couples and babies. As soon as I walked in I noticed that there was a man in a waiting room chair stimming. He was rocking (hard), flapping and making loud vocal stims. I went to the reception window and signed in, when I turned around the man had gotten up and was kicking a very surprised man who was sitting in the waiting room with his pregnant partner. I could tell no one in the waiting room knew what to do, they were shocked. I walked toward the man and simply said, "please don't do that", he looked at me and then sat back down. You would think that was the end of the story but it isn't. As he continued to stim (very loudly), people continued to stare at him warily and I decided to focus on something else because I understood what was going on and it's rude to stare. Over in the corner of the room was what appeared to be a very young pregnant girl (16 years old is my guess) who was in distress. I watched her quietly for about half an hour and realized that she was in labor and was trying to be brave. She didn't realize what was going on. I didn't want to embarrass her, so I went up and knocked on the window of the reception area. When the receptionist opened the window, I leaned in and whispered, "I am no expert but I think that girl in the corner is in active labor.' The doctor and nurses came out and whisked her away. When I finally was called back for my blood work, one of the nurses found me and thanked me. She said that the young girl was in labor and in trouble. I thought to myself, "Thank you, Abbie!" I noticed that young woman in distress because I was able to understand what others in the waiting room couldn't because Abbie taught me!
Dana Bays way to go!!!
Abbie and Priscilla are wearing the cutest blouses, y'all are some classy ladies. Those art projects are Amazing! Crazy nanny is awesome and I love how she comes up with such unique art projects with Abbie!
I love their blouses too ,Priscilla is always dressed cute
Why was Abbie wearing a jean vest over her pajama
I think it's awesome you are showing what day to day life with a nonverbal autistic child. My niece is in her 20's and nonverbal, so i so get how life can be. Thank you for sharing your life you all are amazing.
Awe she kept trying until she got the backpack on the hook instead of giving up or getting mad!!!! Awesome family!!!🥰🥰🥰
I just found your channel and let me just say I am in love! I have been on a two day binge of a ton of your videos. I work with the special education students at my school and they always are able to put the biggest smile on my face. Your videos do the same thing! Continue doing what you're doing and spreading awareness for Abbie and all the kids like her!
Your vlogs started popping on my Facebook wall about two weeks ago and I watched them religiously and kept waiting for the new one to pop everyday, until it clicked in my poor tired brain that you guys are on UA-cam and now here I am! ☺️ I think your family is incredible at showing all sides of autism, good, bad, ugly. Abbie is such a typical teenager, like autism or not, she's just a teen who wants to do her thing and it's so fun to watch her just be herself!
I love your whole family! You guys are so amazing to still have interests and hobbies outside of your beautiful Abbie’s extremely high needs autism. I know from personal experience that having neuro-atypical kids can be all-consuming. (I have three neuro-atypical kids: my oldest has cerebral palsy, my daughter has dyslexia and bipolar disorder and my youngest has very mild, extremely high functioning autism). You guys all rock! I have to admit to being #teamAsa. Your drive to get Abbie the best care you can find and your open, loving kindness towards your viewers is what drew me in and keeps me watching.
Hi, I just wanted to say thank you. I’m a support worker for kids with special needs but I primarily work with kids that have non-verbal autism. For me it’s so rewarding to see these kids excel in life. Just because they don’t verbally talk, doesn’t mean they can’t communicate. Their actions speak very loudly. I love working with these special kids and they are teaching me new things everyday. I’m learning Australian sign language and they also use songs to communicate what they want to me, which goes to show just how smart they are.
I also want to thank you for sharing bits of your life and explaining why Abbey does some things and that it’s ok, because I find most people would just stare (people are becoming much more accepting). Isaiah, keep being the best big brother ever. Priscilla and Asa, keep on working as the best team unit, it’s really inspiring.
Lauren
This is probably the best channel on UA-cam. It is definitely one of the best and one of my favourites.
I love how there is so much positivity among the viewers.
Those final clips in the vlog are always some of my favorite! Abbie getting hit in the face with the tail. Her reaction just made me smile! Love watching your videos!
I love watching this channel! I'm obsessed. I watch every vlog, and I'm slowly watching all the old videos. Your family is amazing! I have autism myself, and my family isn't as accepting or acommodating of my autism. I love the way you guys work with Abby! Push her out of her comfort zone, but don't try to change who she is.
I love showing your chanel to my 36 year old son with autism he loves watching the things you all get to do . I don’t have all the support you have , so amazing ,how did you find someone willing to work with Abby and how costly is it , I need to find help so that’s why I’m asking . My son has challenging behaviors . I have a hard time with people who judge I don’t think anyone really understands , when my son verbalize even if he yells or swears people don’t understand how proud of him I get ,people judge and say how inappropriate . I’m happy he verbalized other than having a aggressive meltdown . It’s hard Abby is doing so great I’m so happy for your family . There are no programs capable of working with my son where I live so he is with me all the time .
Glad my kids aren’t the only ones still rocking their Christmas pajamas!
So Many Celestines hahaha I am 30 and to get my money’s worth for the Christmas pjs o bought from the after Christmas sales I will start wearing them soon. Winter is coming in Australia so it’s perfect 😂😂👌🏻
😂 that is perfect! I was laughing because while editing a video I noticed my son wearing his Christmas pjs on Easter morning. I should start purchasing them during the after Christmas sales as well.
I can totally relate to Abby not wanting to get up!! I hope you guys are feeling better, I live in a dry desert and I can't even imagine how miserable it must be in a high humidity environment... Priscilla you are looking absolutely stunning! You can tell by your smile that you're genuinely happy and I love to see that!! Hope you all have an amazing day and I'll see you all next time!
Cheyenne Marie I also can. I am a total night owl.
I just stumbled unto your channel today and ive binged watch through a whole bunch of them. Very inspiring and eyeopening. Keep doing what youre doing and sharing your life. This really does help bridge the gap of understanding 👍. Happy Easter!
I started watching your channel back when you had less than 7000 subscribers. I was interested in watching your channel because it was about Autism. I was wrong. It was not only about your relationship with Abby and what you deal with in caring for an Autistic child, but your family members. It shows how your family has been close, and all work to make Abby’s special needs be a part of your family, but not over run your family, but letting her be an accepted family member. You have a very special family and you all should be proud of your accomplishments. You are giving her every opportunity to grow into a woman and learn about what she can achieve on her own. Thank you for sharing all of your family with the rest of us.
So I have been watching all old videos lately and my husband was helping as make dinner as I watched this one. He loved when you said “it just is” . I can see him starting to watch you soon!
Hey guy's!! I just started following you all,and have just fell in love with your family! I have a 4 year grandson who very soon gos to be tested. What i love about your channel is the tools you teach us can be applied to raising children with a disability or without. I too am called "crazy nanny!" Lol i loveeeee crazy nanny, and Abbie's art!! Xoxo
I love when u show us Abbie waking up in the morning! It makes me so happy inside!!
I am 32 and I have mild autism. I live with my parents still. I love watching Abbie and the youtube channel.
So usually I smile and laugh through so many of you guys' wonderful videos because you all have terrific senses of humor and are good at capturing the lighthearted moments that we can all relate to, but one of those sweet moments got me teary-eyed today. I can remember my mom or dad sending our puppy in to wake me up in the mornings before school all through my teen years. Let's face it, getting up in the morning sucks when you're a teenager. LOL But it made me so happy, and emotional, to get that Abby gets to share in that fun and oh so typical experience. You are all awesome. I love the care you take to make sure Abby continues to learn and retains what she's learning but also make the tougher or longer days a little better for her. Oh my goodness, I hate anything that squirts something up my nose and through my sinuses to come out the other side. *gag* But I still force myself to do it when I'm sick because I can't stand feeling like I'm drowning in my own snot! LOL
I get why the commenter of the day said what she said. I think she sees that your family is so wrapped up into it that you guys forget to try to live a normal life. The blog is about autism but it also shows an equal balance of what family life is like for parents raising an autistic child. I love the level of involvement you and Priscilla put into both your children. There are parents who do not embrace parenthood like the two of you. And I watch for all those reasons. Yoh have brought me so much awareness about autism that I didnt know about before. I was honestly quite afraid on how to react to someone like Abby until getting a birds eye view from your blog. I have fallen in love with your whole family and I feel privileged to watch your videos. Your family rocks!
I started watching your viedos two weeks ago and i have watched everyone of them love your family i have learned so much from yall in the last two weeks love yalls viedos ❤
I LOVE the tigers eye artwork!!! Nanny is so cool with Abbie. They produce such beautiful works of art!
Abbie rolls her eyes just like my daughter (they are almost to the day one year apart 😀) I just laughed cuz I get it mom and dad. 😝
Asa, I'm with you on the crafting thing. Let them do their thing and you do yours.
Priscilla, I've been praying for your healing and wellness. I go for surgery on the 24th so ur always on my mind. Just know that u will feel 💯% soon. Sending love to all of you
Iffy question, great answer! Your 15 min of sharing has opened so many eyes. Love your perspective on life! Love you guys! ❤❤❤❤❤
I love watching these videos, it teaches me a ton about autism that I didn't know. Watching Abbs grow as well as the family is great.
You guys are absolutely amazing. I love every single video I watch. Thank you. 💙
Behavior technician here! I love seeing Abbie's therapy sessions and they way you talk about the ABA interventions :) It means a lot to me when I see parents following through with the interventions and I do realize it is hard not to intervene. But in the long run, consistency across family, therapy and school is what will help any client to thrive! Such an awesome family.
I have 3 kids with autism, it can be so tough at times and hard for it to not consume our lives... it doesn’t define my children but i need to be aware of it so I can support them and help them thrive in what they do... we still do amazing things as a family but autism is still apart of that...
Love what you share
I just started watching y’all and I’m in love. You guys are a amazing family and I love how guys are always so positive no matter what. Your daughter is so so sweet :)
Just found you guys. As the mom of a autistic daughter and a son with mild cp and gross global delays (don’t ask what that means, I just see high functioning A.) Thank you. I take so much comfort from your vlogs ❤️
I love this channel so much. I want to be an ABA therapist when I grow up and this makes me even more passionate. Abbie is so cute.
Drue Klingenberg it’s my job and honestly brings so much light and joy into my life! Knowing you’re changing lives and making a difference everyday is great and the kids become like your own! I hope you achieve your goal!
I just found guys channel and I can’t stop watching! I love your family already!! 💕💕💕
Abbie is always the most stylish girl.
I love the headband Cill. I am so not a crafter but I want to be so badly and it always ends up in a hot mess.
You guys are amazing. ❤️
You guys are such amazing parents I just started watching your videos and I love watching them she is just a sweet girl
I think you guys handle everything very well. You don’t let it define you and your family. A lot of certain families and parents can’t do what you guys do. Is it hard do you get frustrated because she doesn’t know certain things or emotional or upset? What do you feel like she needs to improve on? I think she’s doing an amazing job and has made so much progress.
Its so cool to see how well abbie is progressing and absolutely love her art!
So glad you chose to talk about that comment of the day. It is real easy to think that what I see on the daily vlog is what most your moments are like in a day.
I hope you guys see this as it’s getting much harder to get to you as you grow your channel so big! 🥳 I’ve been a faithful viewer right from the beginning and so my kids have either seen, or heard many many videos along the way. They’re twins and will be 4 on the 28th. Anyway, I was so blown away today as I was making lunch in the kitchen and my daughter was sitting at the kitchen table playing with her dolls. Instead of her usual chattering, she was humming, and making other types of noises for the longest time as she played happily. Finally I noticed and asked what she was doing and she replied so sweetly “I pretendin’ to play with abbey”. I was almost moved to tears as I’ve never told them why abbey makes her sounds, or anything about the way she is, but she just took it upon herself to adapt the way she played for abbeys sake. She didn’t judge, or question it, she just changed the way she played. I’m so proud of that, and so proud that you’ve given me the opportunity to teach acceptance in my children without even really trying to.
Your family has benefited mine in more ways than you’d ever know. You all have such a special place in my heart 💝
That’s the sweetest thing ever. Thank you for sharing!
You both as parents are so cute. Im so happy to see you both to show how close you are.
I really love Abby’s art projects. Such a talented and beautiful young lady. I have learned so much from watching Abby, about life and her amazing perspective on the world. Sending lots of love to your entire family from Northern Cali!! 💜❤️💙💚
I absolutely love the Tigers Eye art!! My 2 year old was recently diagnosed. Thank you for sharing your story!!
I have only been watching for a few weeks and your family is inspiring and extremely helpful. I wondered if Abbie’s “power hour “ relatable to “sundowners”?
Seeing Ab’s beautiful face just puts a smile on mine!! So glad I found you guys, whenever I’m feeling down, I come here. My safe place ❤️
Me too. I found their vlog a year and a half ago or so when my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia and I was her main caregiver, and it just really helped me through it in so many ways.
Candi M. Exactly!!!
Hey from Oshawa Ontario Canada
I love you guys you are doing so much for Abbie love the sibling love the kids have for one another
I loved the way you responded to the comment of the day! Keep up the amazing work!
Hopefully my comment doesnt get "comment of the day" LOL. My 21 year old autistic son thinks Abbie's parents are actually brother and sister and insists they look too much alike to be husband and wife. Lol.
Agree. Perfect answer.
Another awesome video. Thank you. Love your family you guys are awesome. Just saying the way you two look at each and smile shows how much you love each other.
So so cute your family is beautiful thanks for making me smile and for sharing this amazing journey with us all xoxoxoxo
I love Abbie's sing-song voice at 7:46 during her interaction with the therapist,... too cute :)
You guys are amazing! I hope you guys get feeling better! Priscilla you look so healthy and even more beautiful!
i'd give anything to have my dog wake me up again. i wonder how Abby dreams?
I bet it’s pretty normal! I found out that blind people have dreams too, they just dream in sound/smell/other senses! Thought that was amazing :)
@@BrookeKatherine. that is amazing. i'm sure abby's dreams are just as colourful as her life!
It'd be cool To find out..science is close. I watched a neurolinked demo of a person hooked up to this device with a screen. The person was sitting watching a video on a different screen. In real time the A.I. device showed what the person was seeing with 98% accuracy. Some things we're a bit vague, but everything else was dead on and looked exactly like what the person was watching. I almost couldn't tell the difference until the not so clear water parts came up and sort of blended together. It made me think of Abbie and how amazing it would be to see what she sees and understand how she processes thought. I wonder if they would ever try something like that or think it's an invasion..idk. It'd be amazing and a great tool to be able to teach people with autism as they'd understand more how their brain works and adjust lessons accordingly.
I haven't been able to watch the videos this week but I'm catching up I was at a spring break day camp for people with special needs but I love watching your videos 😊
Awwww....Maverick is so stinking cute!!! Where can I get one of those collars he is wearing??? Would love for our dog to rock the awareness! Y'all are an amazing family and inspire my crew in so many ways. Thank you for all of your fabulous vlogs couldn't start my day without you guys. Love y'all!
Maverick was cute waking Abigail up! Abbie's Tiger Eye Art is so cool!
Also after my weight loss surgery, those first few weeks had major fatigue, it’s super frustrating and hard! But rest as much as you can :) I found by 6-8 weeks I was feeling like amazing!
Hello there, I just want to share something, my sister has CP, and when growing up I was the abnormal one when it came to the shiner's hospital play area, because I could run, walk, talk what we call normal, but there were things I couldn't do and kids that had disabilities had to show me how they worked I was at the time 5/7 those years was so important that I can still remember then as if they took place yesterday and I'm now 50 almost 51, so it is part of our lives just like autism is part of your lives, Abbi is a big part and so is your son, and dad, and mom, grandma. So I have enjoyed your vlogs.
Oh and Maverick too
I am amazed how great your family is, and maverick seems like a great dog.
Abbie is soooo cute sleeping. I LOVE the sound of Priscilla's voice I could listen to her talk all day. This family is amazing together. I love it yes Tambo is still binge watching. Kids are funny teens as teens do
I needed this today, furry alarm clocks are the best, sending big hugs to Maverick ♥♥
Not sure why he said the most popular ppl are the other members of the family? We adore the whole family and that includes you Asa!
Asa is my favorite. Well, except for Abby and Isaiah and Priscilla.
I'm just teasing. Asa really is my favorite. But probably because it's his vlog so he kind of has to be, right?
@@candim.9375 Asa is my favorite too! He is such a good dad, a good husband, and dedicated youtuber! He is the kind of person people should strive to be like
Asa is definitely my favorite! He's such an inspiring parent and person in general.
I love how Abbie does her twirls n spins with her dimpled lil grin! ADORABLE
Priscilla be patient with yourself for sure! I'm 7 weeks out and still tired, but much better than previous weeks. My surgeon also said to give myself up to 3 months to feel more normal energy-wise. We'll get there! In the mean time, enjoy a nap now and again! :)
Before the pandemic when school became virtual,my daughter was only 4 n 5 n had to go to school all day 5 days a week n twice a week had two hours of ABA therapy right after school n it/speech after school one day. It was soo much on her. Now that school is virtual n she gets to do ABA earlier n once a week she's handling it better.
Ugh I feel you, Priscilla. I'm an anti-crafter, too Haha I 100% agree with that eye roll
I’m right there with you and Priscilla on the craft issue. I’m ambidextrous, so it’s just assumed that I’m naturally artistic. I’m always asked to help with projects and decorating...until they realize what a klutz I am.
Loved Abbie’s wake up with the pup! ❤️
Awww, I love crafting....cross stitching, now sewing thanks to my husband showing me how to use a sewing machine, quilting, etc. I’m always busy creating.
So cute watching Abbie with Maverick. Absolutely love your response to the comment. For me I have to say I have learned some things from your videos. I see Abbie being an average teenager sometimes. Like being defiant on going to bed.
I WANT you to share as much as possible about Abbie, Isaiah, Pricilla, Asa. Every part of your lives!
Ms P seems to have a glow about her since she started weight loss. Abbie is so cute with Maverick and being a regular teen.
I looooved her sigh when Miss Brandi made her go on a golf cart ride to listen to music. That is just so typical teen! Just a big 'ole "Fiiiiine.."
has Abby ever spoken any words? also, On TLC channel there is a show about a woman called "momma medium" this woman is able to communicate for people who are non verbal whether due to autism, stroke, brain injury etc. I just wondered if you have ever heard of her. If not, watch an episode and lemme know what ya think. How awesome would it be to have someone that can tell you what Abby is really thinking, or maybe there is something she wants to communicate to you but is unable, like how awesome would it be for her to tell you she loves you, Im gonna cry...I would love that for all of you, and Im sure if she could say it she would. You are some of the greatest parents I've ever seen!!!
I think that autism is an integral part of your life. It obviously affects much of what you do as a family but it doesn't have to define each one of you or prevent each one from doing their own things. I think you all do a very good job of keeping a good balance between tending to Abbie's needs and enjoying a full spectrum of activities. You are so right, we only see about 15 minutes of your day, so it is unfair to judge every aspect of your lives by what we see in a video.
Totally would love to buy a tigers eye painting! They are so pretty. Abbie did awesome on them
You guys even raised the sweetest dog, can we clone you guys...please? Seriously, you are soo amazing ...absofrigginlutely love and adore your entire family❤
I watch your videos on most days. My 3 year old walks by and stops to watch. Today, she leaned against me and said, "I looove Abby." I asked her why and she said, "Because she's smart." I wholeheartedly agree!
Good episode. Asa I love to see your love and support for Priscilla. You don’t see (or at least I don’t) that kind of old fashion love anymore.
I'm not a parent but if i ever become one, you're the kind of father i aspire to be. Respect.
I can relate! I’m so not crafty!!! 🤦🏻♀️ you’re in good company Pricilla!!!!
Love you Abbie! I’ve seen that teenager raise of the brow when you tell them it’s time to go to bed... My grand daughter use to live with me only to finish out her school year. Because her dads job moved them to a new area. Let me tell ya when I seen the way Abbie looked at her dad when he told her it was bed time, they brow went up. Yes that’s a teenager thing lol.. However I think she responds well to you and her teachers.. I think she’s very smart girl, like all kids they try to push you to your limits just too see if they can... Just love your family and cilia is looking Awesome!
Will you guys ever sell the sun and earth paintings again? I'd absolutely love to buy one of those!!!
I love watching hour family. I have learned a lot and you have taught me ways I hadn't thought of to help others with autism. May I ask if you have thought about or have planned for Abby when she is older? When you are older and can no longer care for her? I worry about that with my kids, I can't imagine having to worry about that with a precious child that will always need care. I mean no harm in asking this. It's not meant to be offensive in any way.
I've been observing Abigail's behaviour for a while now and in this ABA-session it looks like she REALLY was communicating with her stimming. She is making so much progress lately!
You're right! Stimming is often also a way of communicating
Where did y'all get Abbie's backpack? I love Abbie's backpack
This channel needs more attention. Beautiful
I feel you are up to a family who wants to share an give all you can to let families know how to manage a full lifestyle with Abbey
I love it when I see how Abby works things out
You are so beautiful and I wouldn’t want you to stop filming as you do
Maverick and Abbie are so cute 🥰
Abbie is growing up so much. Love her spectacular tops....I notice Abbie stopped stimming and listens to you when you were driving
Hi. I’m new to watching your channel and I just wondered does Abbie eat fruit? I don’t want to seem patronizing but if she does and the amount of times she asks for food/snack wouldn’t this seem a better option and then she could perhaps visit the fridge as often as she wants (obviously within reason). I must also add what truly wonderful parents you are to both your children.
You guys are just too cute!
Addie your just adorble and the looks she gives you all! 😂
I love Maverick so much. Do you think you could do a DITL Mav Edition?
Awe 💜💜 Abbie and Maverick are adorable!
Guys seriously don't feel the need to defend your fight in promoting autism awareness, I know our children aren't JUST autism but autism consumes a LARGE part of our lives. We face the truth every day through love, patience and struggles with autism so we have the right to advocate and express that yes it is apart of our lives, there is more to us than just autism but it is the truth.. Autism is life changing and you do conform to adapting to the aspie life! Your doing a great job, I am feeling inspired to start my own youtube channel documenting my life with autism as a single mum in Australia. Thanks guys, Abbie makes our day and my autistic daughter's aswell. Hello from the land down under!! Much love and support.
dont change!! you guys are amazing thats what brings me back !! she is a typical teenager who just does stuff differently. besides 'normal' is outdated. besides what is normal?? lol
Asa, Another thing that can help you with nasal congestion so you have a chance of getting some sleep is to take a hair dryer on low heat and breathe in the warm air. It will unclog your nose at least for a while. Hopefully, it gives you enough time to get to sleep. My Mom taught me this a long time ago and now I use it when my son is congested to help him get to sleep.
Okay so I’ve been following you guys for a while now but I’m at my Nana’s house for Easter and I just heard her watching one of your vlogs in the other room! I don’t know if she follows you or if she just found a video on Facebook, but I would not expect her to watch your vids.
Yesss !!!!Painting are so beautiful she is sooooo talented ❤️
Maverick and Abbie are the cutest
also! 'Scilla! you're healing and that takes energy too. Don't beat yourself up. You're doing great.
Shes a great kid. You all are doing amazing with Abbie
I think with that comment it is the channel being about autism but you guys share so much of your life I think people just want to see and know more if that makes sense
