  • Talking about all the different ways you can do NaNo! #Authortube
This video was recorded and uploaded before NaNo did their whole AI stance. I've chosen to still post it as the information can be used to apply to any kind of writing challenge that's popping up to fill the NaNo space

I love the writing buzz at this time of year. I've also never done NaNoWriMo conventionally, but I enjoyed the creativity boost in the community. I know there a bunch of other writers forming their own challenge groups this year instead of typical NaNo, but Joey you're spot on. You can take part in the November writing hype season at your own pace, riding the wave of creativity it brings alongside others.

That was always the big thing for me, the wave of creativity, the buzz of the community. I’ve never done NaNo in the usual way, but the way I manage to do it allows me to build on the buzz!

I've done NaNo in multiple ways, including traditional and rebel-like. I enjoy writing multiple projects at the same time, but i've also used NaNo to focus on one single project. I think doing multiple stories keeps things fresh, and you can work on whatever you're feeling the most in the moment. It does make it a bit more difficult to track word counts, so i end up using either my phone's notepad or a spreadsheet to track how many words i've written.

Yeah, when I’m drafting I keep track of the word count of each chapter (generally I write one in a sitting) and then work out running word count from that. Now I’m onto revising only, it’s just keeping track of how many chapters I manage. It’s all about making it work for you, and there ain’t no shame in doing more than one thing, or doing it differently to others. NaNo, before the AI thing, and the other serious issues it has, was more about community for me, so I didn’t mind tracking on my own since it was something I normally did anyway!

@@JoeyPaulOnline it's great that word count tracking has become routine for you 😀

I'm definitely still going to be doing a big writing project! I'd miss it if I didn't at this time of year now!
