I respect Buzzo more than any other musician. He tells the truth...not many people do. He keeps honest with his music, and it shows in how great the Melvins have been for so many years. Keep it real Buzzo.
Buzz has delivered the goods with the Melvins since 10 songs in 1986. And 1984 if you want to count the pre EP days. They have never had a hiatus. 34 years of non stop rocking. That is FUCKING BADASS!!! Buzz DID help create the alternative rock scene in Seattle that got labeled "Grunge". He took the mid 80's speed punk scene and put it on slow motion in Seattle. The Melvins were fastest, then they became the slowest. History. Buzz DID turn Kurt Cobain on to alternative rock and punk. Buzz DID influence Kurt to start playing guitar and writing songs. Without Buzz influencing Kurt directly and showing him the basics of guitar, there is no Nirvana. Every true Nirvana fan knows this.... Dale is just as important to the sound of Nirvana. There is a good chance that Dale was the first drummer Kurt ever played with. He also played many concerts with Nirvana in the early days. Tacoma Community World Theater 1988 comes to mind. Dale made the right decision to turn down the drumming job for Nirvana. I like the Melvins music much better....SNIVLEM
+HUGO FUGUSEV uh........dude, its 2015 right now, so from 1984 to 2015 would have been 31 years. I dont even know how you got to 34 because the melvins were not really a thing in 81........
In between Chad and Dave with Nirvana, they had Dale for some shows in August 1990. There is a bootleg of one of the shows in soundboard quality. One of the best live Nirvana shows I've ever heard, with a combination of most of their old stuff, and some new stuff that would go on Nevermind (imagine Dale Crover doing the drums for In Bloom and Breed).
The band has been together longer than i’ve been alive. Just saw them last night and they were absolutely spot on. Super energetic live performance. I love the Melvins.
That would be Bruce Springsteen since James Brown died. Buzz Osborne is a cult figure who couldn't keep up with the Boss if he tried. And lots of albums isn't an accomplishment, lots of good ones is though!
Met him in 96 at the cactus club in San Jose. Good dude, super humble and funny. He was super proud of being on the cover of a porno mag with Judy garlands daughter who was in the Melvin's at one point.
@Douglas Farnsworth like you could make me feel any thing? Be glad you didn't have the error of judgement to correct me in person, I'd ring your bell bitch.
Matthew, Kev, you don't know Kurt or Buzz personally. You only have the interviews to go off of. It would be pretty ignorant to judge their entire relationship, or buzz's emotions off only that. Melvins helped out Kurt/Nirvana countless times. No Fecal Matter tape without Crover, no Dave Grohl without Buzz introducing them.
Although he's totally right about the hyperbolism of "Montage of Heck", many people thinks that he buys the conspiracy crap behind Cobain, and he doesn´t. Buzz has demystified Cobain's life through the years, and he knew him well.
The more I see this guy the more I like it. I thought he was resentful about Nirvana's success but now I understand that this guy is just authentic and super funny
@Gumby_ Guy I misread your first comment. I thought you were a proponent of the film's "authenticity". I wasn't a Nirvana fanatic when Kurt died. I was a more casual fan, but it definitely felt sucky still when he died. A real bummer. I remember explaining to my hippie aunt after finding out the news, "This is like the John Lennon of my generation dying." I don't know if I said that verbatim, but as a big fan of Lennon and the Beatles she definitely got my point, I could tell. That was a strange few days for me. I remember finding out about it on a Sunday, two days after everyone else. I had been on a spiritual retreat for a couple weeks that had removed me from society ... until that day. April 10th, 1994 happened to be a defining date for my personal life as well, but I will always remember it for learning about Kurt too. What I remember the most about that moment was being caught off guard that he shot himself. I actually half-expected him to die after Rome. I remember that (the overdose) even more strongly than Kurt's suicide, if you can imagine that. That was more surprising and unexpected to me; my thoughts went wild, all amplified, finding out about that. I wouldn't call it a premonition (you don't have to be a psychic to foresee Kurt becoming the big casualty of rock in that era) but that's how it felt when I learned about Rome - an eerie foreboding. To me it was like, "Holy shit, there's this whole other side to him that's so much worse than we've known." It felt way off, that something was very wrong. It did give me an eerie foreboding of him dying in the near future. In fact, what happened a month later was my uncle was reading a newspaper when he suddenly turned to me and asked, "Do you know who Kurt Cobain is?" My reaction was to turn my head swiftly at him and say, "Don't tell me he's dead." I think I knew before he replied.
lilminer69er - Strive to become a peer, then, and not a follower/worshipper. Create something cool, work your ass off, and you'll meet interesting people, they'll come to you, you won't have to chase them down or just dream about it. If that's egad you really want. Maybe you could become the Buzzo of your generation, or something else entirely (hint: Buzzo's been done, do your own thing - WELL - and kids will dream about shitting their pants meeting you). Good strength to you in your journey!
i don't even like the melvins music that much but buzz is the best interviewee--always funny and articulate and smart and honest. he and albini are/were cut from the same cloth in that respect. great band/dude.
I just watched the Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck documentary and spent the whole time thinking, where are Kurt's BEST friends? The film has snapshots from Kurt's notebook which seemed out of context of the narration, it's partial audio bits were placed without references of the timeline of his life. It's fictitious for film makers to do so. Dale and Buzz have the rights to voice their criticism if they feel its fanatical
"it doesn't matter what the facts are, it's what people want to believe". Such a simple and profound statement that can be applied to anything from Kurt Cobain, to BLM, to Trump.
Like the way he taps the chair talking he's cool with himself he's dealt with his demons put them to bed never fkn heard of him but I was reading about Shirley temple
If anybody ever thinks that buzz is jealous of Nirvana, just remember that they asked him to be their second guitar player during the in utero tour and he turned them down. Think about that for a second. When they were having their most success and ask him to join, he said no.
Awesome, Buzz is the best!! Love this guy!! He is soooo right, most of MOH was NOT true. Unbelievable how many people believe that crap. I wouldnt want to be them either, Buzz, who wants to be a lying, manipulating, unhappy, egotistical, lunatic??
It must be difficult to talk about the same topic over and over again: Nirvana. Imagine being the hero and in a certain way, the musical godfather of someone who will become a legend in the history of music, and be someone who does not love to talk much about people and other bands. Buzzo is waaay more than talk about that young guy from Aberdeen.
Bad mic placement make it really hard to listen to for non-native english speaking people. But thanks for the interview anyway, not here to bash at all. So thanks (but do something about the mic ! ^^)
People look at Buzz like wtf is this guy but they look at Kurt as a sad pathetic but greatly talented man who changed a generation. Nirvanas first hit was ironically called Love Buzz and even tho it has nothing to do with Buzz or The Melvins Kurt did LOVE them. The Melvins are amazing and Kurt wanted to be them.
When Buzz said "my friend is dead", so emotional.
Not just any friend either. Buzz's role in Kurt's life was profoundly unique.
Buzz introduced punk to Cobain ... Cobain first punk concert was with Buzz. Black Flag My War tour, pretty badass if you ask me!
I respect Buzzo more than any other musician. He tells the truth...not many people do. He keeps honest with his music, and it shows in how great the Melvins have been for so many years. Keep it real Buzzo.
Nicholas Fanzo yes, very rare. like the diamonds he finds in the pile of shit. lol
What a mentor and difference Buzz made for musicians in history. I really respect him.

He tells the truth while also bullshitting you the whole time. He's brilliant.
Birthday Party kicks fucking ass. Great band.
The older I get the more I appreciate the Melvins, they are a force of nature Buzzo makes me want to play my guitar
I love the lottery analogy / at least you have a chance playing the lottery 😂 so true

kurt cobain was supposed to produce the melvins "Houdini" but kurt was so fucked up on heroin that buzzo fired him.
Buzz is the greatest influence on modern heavy rock, period
In between Chad and Dave with Nirvana, they had Dale for some shows in August 1990. There is a bootleg of one of the shows in soundboard quality. One of the best live Nirvana shows I've ever heard, with a combination of most of their old stuff, and some new stuff that would go on Nevermind (imagine Dale Crover doing the drums for In Bloom and Breed).
Do you remember Husker Du?
The band has been together longer than i’ve been alive. Just saw them last night and they were absolutely spot on. Super energetic live performance. I love the Melvins.
Hardest working man in rock. I've lost count of how many albums The Melvins have.
That would be Bruce Springsteen since James Brown died. Buzz Osborne is a cult figure who couldn't keep up with the Boss if he tried. And lots of albums isn't an accomplishment, lots of good ones is though!

Didn’t know Liza Minnelli was in The Melvins. Hmm.. Learn something new every day.
Melvins rule!! If you like Nirvana (especially "Bleach" and "Incesticide") then you owe a deep debt of gratitude to Melvins. No Melvins, no Nirvana.
All he does is bash Kurt. He lost my respect.
Even when he gives a “compliment” there’s always a backhand in there too.

Your right I don’t know them. But he’s always hatin in interviews. And nirvana would have probably been just as big without Dave.
I love revolve my favorite Melvins song
I like Buzz he's honest up front and seems like a cool guy
I think Buzz is a pretty cool guy. he kills aliens and doesn't afraid of anything
Then go do him l think he is ugly inside and out Kurt cobain is more talented and better looking

Buzz is a national treasure.

Kurt would've hated montage of heck
Probably not. It's exactly the kind of thing he wanted at the time. And then again, it wouldn't have been made if he hadn't died.
Jules Spoonclown Well if it was full of BS, like Buzz mentioned, I doubt Kurt would like it too much.
@Gumby_ Guy So the movie is anchored in Kurt's lies and Courtney's truth?
