I have recently got my ppl in the UK and now fly one of these, I absolutely love it such a nice looking Cessna. Yet to really finesse the landings like you just did perfectly, hopefully that will come with more experience. Great video thanks
I had an uncle who owned a 77 Cardinal. It was such a great flying airplane, and I logged a few hours in it. He used to do a 900-mile trip from Corpus Christi, TX to Near Lincoln, NE. Once when returning home he caught a strong tailwind on a blue norther, and he made it back to Corpus in just over 6 hours flight time. They won't quite haul what a 182 will haul but overall, two people with luggage and full fuel is doable.
Always lived the look of a Cardinal….our camping neighbor at OSH had one, retractable gear, sweet ride…. Great “casually” running into you again at OSH!!!!
Rich, really appreciate you showing this plane. While I love all the modern, fancy stuff, seeing things I could actually realistically afford is awesome. The C177 has its quirks, but all in all a fantastic bird.
'75 was the year I graduated High School. That was a long, long, long time ago. Wish I still looked that good. But.....I'll pass on being a 'Hanger Queen' to accomplish such a task Thanks for the video, Rich! 🙂
Thanks for another enjoyable video. As a kid I went up with my Dad many times in the 177. Later in life a buddy had one. That was when I really noticed the big doors and Great visibility compared to the 172. Its a cool plane.
the 177s got a bad wrap early on with the 150hp engine and old style stab...with 180 hp and the slotted stab you have a sweet 2+2 ride or a 2 person with lots of baggage ...decent range , cruise and at 139k it wont last long...nice to see you offer choices from all price points...thanks Rich
I've seen these around for years. I'd just like to ask a Cessna engineer why they omitted the struts? Other then cost, drag etc. Thanks for the look, the engine sounded strong! 8) --gary
Good Video! You Talk About Planes & Aviation With The Same Passion Whether You're In A Million Dollar Jet Or This! Great "N" Number, Huh!?! What Was That Squealing After Touchdown? Thank You. (Like #75)
I had a friend and business partner who had a Cardinal. I always thought it was a great looking aircraft. I never understood why it never got the traction it deserved.
@@FlightSimVRDad Sometimes hard to figure out why some airplanes make it and others don’t. My personal opinion is that the Cardinal didn’t have an enough of a performance boost to compel buyers to buy it over a Skyhawk, and it was not a competitor to the Skyhawk in the flight training market so just didn’t fit between a Skyhawk and Skylane.
I think it didnt get the traction right from the start was because the Cardinal initially had a 150hp engine. The performance wasnt there. Later it was upped to the 180 hp engine with the constant speed prop. But by then sales had suffered. Also it cost just as much to produce as a C 210. The wings are of the same design. Cessna could make a lot more money selling the 210's.
@@Alfaspiderman84 Part of the reason it had a 150hp engine was that Cessna had lots of them left over from 172 production. As a guy told me with one of the original Cardinals at Oshkosh "if you actually fly it BY THE BOOK, it will out perform a 172 even with the 0-320. I have a 75RG and I can fly 150mph at about 7.5GPH. Basically Mooney territory as far as efficiency! The 177B is a bit slower with fixed gear and 20 less HP. Both are great planes. I can just imagine an O-540 in one!
Nice video but you didn't mention much about performance. Only that it's a nice flying plane with big doors, roomy cabin (wider than a Skylane), useful load... Nothing on speed, fuel burn, endurance etc. Also, they're great for a lot more than the distance you stated. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. (Full disclosure, I have a 75RG and I can go about 1,000 miles at economy cruise if my bladder lasted that long. I routinely do 150mph at about 7.5gph.)
@@peteranninos2506 I have done many videos on the Mustang and covered performance, but good point - 330 KIAS, 100 GPH block fuel 1000 NM range, 4 people. Thanks for watching!
@@Joseph-nk8se There’s a much larger segment of the population who can afford a $140K airplane in comparison to a $600-700K airplane. I agree out of reach for the common man, but airplanes aren’t the only thing out of reach for the common man.
Major piece of crap, but it looks pretty. Potential buyers, you will love the high fuel flow and increased operating costs. I would be real careful listening to anything this clown salesman has to say about airplanes.

I've always loved the look of the 177's, and now days at my age, not being as "bendy" those big doors would be nice.
I love you video rich! I want to be a pilot my self, keep on the good work!

Great to see you guys too!

You are welcome. I appreciate the feedback. I really enjoyed flying it!
Love that full cantilever wing!
That's one great example of the classic Cardinal ...thx Rich

After Labor Day I’m getting checked out in a 182S. Super excited to get a high performance endorsement 😃🤙🏻
My favorite airplane.

You landed that plane like someone who's done it a time or two. 👍
I’ll look again, but looked like a little nose wheel first.
He kept the nose wheel up might have been a three point landing
Very cool, love the look of the 177, don't usually see many of these 👍🦅✨
Look up Cessna NGP on the internet. Cessna was considering a next generation piston maybe in 2006 or so - similar look the Cardinal.
Looked liked a perfect landing sir. 👍
F/G = cheaper insurance, this is the type of plane that most people need

Thank you!
Beautiful plane Rich. Another fun ride along 👍🏻
Very cool airplane!
I love the Cardinals. I’d really like to have a ‘76 or newer RG.
Nice colour scheme
I have a '76 FG. Meant for it to be a step toward more complex planes, but I may now be a Cardinal lifer!
The only Cardinal I ever flew was an RG. I got my complex endorsement in it. I think it was 1984!
Nice wide cabin too.
Very nice cabin!

Muy hermoso está el avion❤

Thanks - don’t know - maybe some wind noise across camera mic.
Really miss my Cardinal. It's a great plane. I had Ser# 00027
Yay!

Only Cardinal I would own is the CE-177 with the 180 hp engine and constant speed prop ! Better performance !
What’s up with the auto pilot?
For the common man, I’d say 139k is definitely expensive, not to mention the other costs involved

Hey Rich I may have a client for you for the 177B

cool video Rich, hey one question, whats the difference between a 172 and a 177? the engine? thanks sir
