  • The Citroen C4 Picasso and C4 Grand Picasso MPVs have been under the knife for a mid-life refresh and we've put the smaller five-seat C4 Picasso through its paces to see what it's like.
    At the front, the updated cars get chrome Citroen chevrons extending around the LED daytime running lights in a continuous loop, the shape of the main headlights is tweaked and the single-framed grille has been split in two. There’s now a smaller grille in the middle of the car’s nose which contains the number plate, while a second air vent now stretches along the bottom of the bumper .
    Changes to the rear are minimal and confined to new-look Citroen chevrons and 3D effect lights, although the changes do sharpen its appearance.
    There are five engines variants to choose from, two petrol and three diesel. The new petrol engine is a 1.2-litre and is available with either 109bhp or 128bhp. The three diesel engines include two versions of a 1.6-litre tuned to 99bhp and 118bhp, plus a range-topping 2.0-litre that develops 148bhp. All of these come with either a five or six-speed manual gearbox, however an optional automatic is available for all but the least powerful engines.
    Both the C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso offer a choice of three specifications; Touch Edition, Feel and Flair;
    Touch Edition comes with rear parking sensors, 16in alloys, cruise control, dual-zone air-conditioning, auto lights and windscreen wipers, and a panoramic sunroof.
    Feel adds 17in alloys, a 12.0in panoramic high-definition display, sat nav, fog lights with cornering function, body coloured and electrically heated door mirrors, and front and rear parking sensors.
    Range-topping Flair further adds 18in alloys, panoramic sunroof, reversing camera, park assist, hands-free tailgate opening (new for this model), keyless entry and blind spot monitoring.
    There are seven exterior paint and four interior trim combinations to choose from.
    New safety systems introduced include Active Lane Departure Warning and Active Blind Spot Monitoring.
    Also, there’s now a hands-free system for the tailgate, where you wave you foot under the rear bumper to activate a sensor, which then opens the boot for you. Handy if your hands are full.

    I recently bought a 2017 C4 Picasso Flair (6 speed manual 1.6 Blue HDi 220) and it is the most comfortable car I have ever driven in over 50 years of driving which includes a Citroen C5 with Hydractive 3+ suspension. It has 17" Mamba wheels and 205/55 Michelin Supremacy tyres. It just soaks up the bumps, large small and undulating surfaces; it is genuinely a 'magic carpet' ride.
    You can corner quite quickly and accurately, you have to learn a more sensitive approach to moving the steering wheel.
    The car is extremely quiet on 'super' diesel and I have not heard any wind noise at motorway speeds. It is a handsome steed.
    I hope I never have to part with it.
    Thank you for pointing out that the central storage is removable - that was quite a surprise!

      Yeah this review certainly went against the grain, like i commented below, its the only review that says that this model lacks comfort! Probably paid him! Regardless, I value owners opinions above and beyond. Thanks for your comment. The comparison with the C5 is a real eye opener. A year on are you still enjoying your Picasso?

      @@mikescudder4621 Absolutely! We love the car. I would have preferred a manual handbrake, and the warning "siren" when you open the driver's door without the handbrake applied ought to be quieter and cancel itself after a few seconds; I park the car without the handbrake on in my garage so it can be pushed back and forth to access shelves etc, so when the driver's door is opened, say to brush out the mats, you get your eardrums well and truly battered!

      @@AmbroseB1900 hehehe.... can't you disable this somewhere hidden in the options menu?! Does yours have the driver lane assist function? I'm trying to discover something in relation to this... everyone shows how the car will steer itself, but does it steer itself while you have you hands on the wheel??? (i have tendonitis in my shoulder and this could really really help me, and i haven't been able to try one out in my neck of the woods).

      @@mikescudder4621 I can't find anywhere in the menu to disable it; also mine does not appear to have lane departure warning/assistance. Although it is a Flair, I think there was an optional pack for extra goodies. I have never used a lane departure system so can't really help.

    I have had this C 4 Picasso for 17 months now and covered over 31000 miles and I am still very happy with it.I agree with MegaGrahamo regarding M.P.G.I get over 50 m.p.g.running local and over 60 when I travel any distance. I have not had any problems with it except a small blip with the sat-nav which the dealer rectified immediately. A lovely car, roomy, large boot, seats fold near enough flat. I don,t always agree with the reviewers as they nit-pick a lot as that is their job. This car is the Flair 1.6 diesel automatic.

    Just to update on my earlier review of this C4 Picasso Flair 1.6 diesel automatic. I have now had this car about 7 months and I have covered nearly 10,000 miles. I live in Scotland and I drive a mixture of motorways, dual carriageways, class A roads and country roads including roads in the highlands with passing places. On the minor roads with passing places I get very poor M.P.G.
    This will be due to the auto box. On the better roads I am getting mostly around the 60 MPG, driving sensibly. I find the car is very comfortable with loads of boot space and the cabin is very roomy and well layed out.I would buy this car again

      Hey Batty - im thinking of getting one. It seems though most are diesel and petrol is rare for the c4. Im favouring the diesel though as the tax is very low compared to the petrol. However, my mileage is going to be low, around 7k a year and mostly city driving (also Scotland) - Is diesel a good option you think ?

    • @1quickstep
      @1quickstep 5 років тому +3

      Hello Marko, The powers that be reckon that only doing 7k a year you are better off with a petrol engine. I really like the diesel as this car has done 20k in 16 months and I live in Central Scotland and have just been up north on holiday and averaged 55 mpg over the week, that is good for a large automatic car, even running around home I get around 50 mpg. When I go down south on the A1 I can get as much as 60 mpg driving sensibly. As I say this car is 16 months old and I like it very much. Have a test drive and see what you think. Good luck.Batty.

    Had my C4 since 2017 from new.. Hit 50k now and it's one of the best cars I've had. Comfy, economic and feels solid. Averaged 49mpg on a 1.6 diesel automatic. Matches my old C5 for comfort and the massage seats make long trips more comfortable. I''ve been driving for nearly 64 years and can't fault this car.. Only let down is the nearest Citroen garage is over 20 miles away... Could well be my last ever car...

    i'v had my citroen c4 grand picasso for over a year now i'm very pleased with it after owning several jag's i was a bit dubious but i must say the mpg and ride are very good if you have the right tyre pressures and don't drive with a heavy right foot. i average 50 mpg around the town and i set the trip computer when on the motorway and cruise at 65 mph it returns 65 mpg .

    The purpose of removing the central console is to make it easier to clean between the front two seats which I really like. You mentioned that the gearbox paddles are more suitable on a PlayStation game. They are actually really solid and it is only the end pieces that move when you select a gear. Like you, I found the suspension a bit fidgety on rough surfaces but easy to get used too. It is a great car on the motorway, very relaxing to drive. My only bugbear, and I am now used to it, is the steering wheel is smaller than normal so easy to oversteer on bends and roundabouts. One useful feature not mentioned is the ability to set a speed limiter which is handy in areas with speed cameras.

    You didn't mention a few features, like the storage compartments under the driver's seat and under the steering wheel. I like Citroen's secret hiding places.
    Also how you can swing your foot under the boot door to open or close it when your hands are full.
    What I want to work out is how to get the 'Blind Spot Monitoring' to work - mine doesn't seem to have a setting for that in the Driving menu options.
    Also the Park Assist which is in the manual - unfortunately my manual is Dutch - so I can't work it out.
    Both these options supposed to take over the steering.

    We have a 2017 C4 Picasso BlueHDi 120 which we bought new and which has now driven approx. 80000 Km. I must say that it is a very comfortable and convenient car to own. However, it is picky about tires. We have all season tires (we use the car in Denmark and Norway all year round) in the dimension 205/60-16 and we first had Michelin CrossClimate +, but with these tires the car felt restless on the road. We switched to Nokian Weatherproof and the car totally changed character. Now it has a firm but comfortable characteristic on the road and is actually a bit fun to drive on winding roads (well ... as much as an ordinary medium-sized MPV allows). In any case, it is/was (it has now gone out of production) quite a sensible family car and offers good economy.

      Battye hi there. Great to hear from you. Good luck with the C4 Picasso. Such an interesting MPV. The 1.6d auto is what we tested and we easily returned 45mpg although we could see 50mpg being attainable. All depends on driving style, type of roads you use and local topography. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

      Just to update. I collected this car yesterday, a Citroen C4 Picasso Flair 1.6 diesel auto and it is a beautiful car easy to drive and very comfortable. Today I travelled about 70 miles and the trip computer said it had averaged 51 m.p.g. and in time I hope to improve on this quite a lot. I will update in a few months time.

      The quality and the small details, for example the light in the back compartment becomes a flash light, or the deposit spaces positioned at the feet of the backseat passengers. But mostly, the view and the visibility, its amazing, its really really hard to get used to another car after you drove a Picasso.

      Hi - bought a 2017 Flair 2 weeks ago & absolutely love it! On mine there is an electric control to alter the door mirrors; in the middle of this control there is a button which you press down and the door mirrors fold away. The mirrors fold away automatically when you lock the doors, but you can turn this off in the menu on the touchscreen. Hope that helps.
