- I finally got around to subbing "Baretta", suggested by Kira. As many of you are probably aware or could guess, "Baretta" means "barrette". I picked the Standing Live Tour14 Heresy Limited - Nameless Liberty Disorder Heaven Scene 01 performance for it.
This song has always been one of my favorites on NIL, so it was a pleasure to translate it!
Translation by me.
A few annotations for this one:
"The sunflowers, wet from the rain - Are wishing for the future of the two" - "The future" might be a bit of a loose translation. The word used here means "next" (次), so it's used in the sense of "the continuation of the two".
"And wait for the coming days" - Can also be "And wait for the day they come".
"Peeking at the puddles of water - I think of you" - There's actually a nice play on words here that gets a bit lost in translation. The expression used to say "think of you" is built with the verb "to float", so it ties nicely into "the puddles of water".
"This revolving lantern" - Ruki mentions a revolving lantern in many different songs and for understanding these lines it should be kept in mind that a "revolving lantern" is often used in expressions describing how "one's life flashes before one's eyes".
"I'll only be lost in nostalgia" - "Lost" as in "puzzled by", not knowing what to do or think.
"Wanting to see that day once more" - Literally "wanting it to be projected once more".
"The fact of the two of us in my heart won't disappear..." - It's left out (hence the ellipsis), but this line is structured in a way that something along the lines of "...is what I wish for" could follow.
"In the final words that were too calm" - Note that "final" is written with kanji usually used to refer to the last moments of someone's life.
The final lines of the lyrics aren't actually sung. They say:
"Staring at the 'barrette' you left behind - I live today"

I love how gentle and soft the lyrics sound. There is something very special about Ruki's love poetry that gets me every time. I knew that he often uses the image of the revolving lantern but never heard about it being connected to the expression of life flashing before one's eyes, that's a really awesome insight
