Bow Valley Chorus performs the 3rd movement of Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms. John Goulart Music Director Karen J Minish Soprano Lauren Phillips Mezzo Paul Lloyd Baritone
This is just too lovely. I tripped upon by accident Apparently this posted a long time ago.I only see old comments. To the person who made the "violins botching" comment... a STRONG DIS-agree.Dissonance most definitely intentional, as LB composed. This is beautifully executed. Those familiar with this entire work are already aware that boy soprano intended to sing the solo...or counter tenor... but not easy to find. The soprano here does a beautiful job.Purity of tone with no overwhelming vibrato. Chorus is wonderful as are obviously instrumentalists. Questions: who was Choir Master? And am I missing something else? CONDUCTOR??? thank you to jstumple for sharing this!
@DebHillier71 Her control as she ascends is as good as it gets. Pitch, tone, dynamics - everything is top notch. Even her release is done without any flaw.
This is probably the best Chichester on UA-cam. The soprano soloist - OMG - incredible!. I wish the ending a capella section 'Hineh Ma Tov' would have been quieter, softer, more delicate, and legato, but otherwise a very fine performance.
@bassethound1 Thank you, Yes this is all true (for the second movement that is). However we couldn't find a boy soprano, and Karen sings it better anyway!!! JStumple
Fine recording.....and though your Soprano has a lovely voice saying you couldn't find a Boy Soprano or Counter Tenor in your part of the world for this rather simple solo is a large pile of BS. Please don't expect your public to buy it. Hopefully Lenny will "forgive you."
I feel like a few of the violinists totally botched the beginning. It's meant to be hard to listen to, but I definitely heard some sounds that weren't supposed to be there. Overall a fantastic performance though.
Well Karen's voice does indeed soar! I loved the whole performance thanks for sharing it!
Truly amazing. One of the best I've heard. Moving.
Beautiful. The soprano soloist is fantastic.
Thank you! I'm singing this with Chora Nova in our March 24, 2013 concert. You're wonderful.
we are going to perform this saturday. I used to hate it coz of the first movement but grown to love the whole thing
Beautiful piece of work!
