Tom you have unlocked the power and the secret of how to apply the pentatonic scale to a song! Been frustrated trying to figure out how the piano guy during a pop song or ballad the band is performing, how he just runs up and down the keyboard so cool when its time for him to solo. Now I know. Your knowledge and piano skills are amazing and so insightful; a step above every teacher on UA-cam.

Thank you for this thoughtful and no-nonsense channel. I joined about 2 months ago when there were 14k subscribers. So glad to see it’s almost at 19k. I was wondering if there were any super early subs out there who are still watching.

This is the most excellent lesson I have ever seen. As beginners, we tend to recognize each scale separately, making it hard for us to improvise using them. However, I have discovered that Blues scales and Pentatonic scales are almost the same. This is a revolution!Thank you!

Dear Tom, it’s very well how to practice all the pentatonic scales but I am confused as to how to incorporate them into a melody ? I searched everywhere for an example of how to put some pentatonic notes into a simple and popular song . Please , Master Tom , help !

The problem is you are treating it like a math equation rather than an inbuilt musical instinct, which you already possess. A better question to ask,, is what song isn't it in? Pentatonic scales don't have to remain exclusive to those core notes, but those core notes are the signature. Two people I can suggest explain it much better than me, look them up. Bobby McFerrin (sing along to it with him) and Howard Goodall, you'll find them with a quick UA-cam search.

@@contemporaryschoolofpiano I had that same confusion and frustration of how to incorporate pentatonic motifs and phrases into a song. This video unlocked that secret for me and I am now doing it and sounding natural. Watch video again. It's all there on how to do that.

Pentatonic scales are amazing. But I really can't stand hearing them.
Having spent all my life playing classical and electric guitar I have made myself sick playing them and I will struggle to watch this video.
Hopefully you can give me a different point of view regarding the use of Pentatonic scales.

Yes. I can help you with that. Check out our video on Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock. ua-cam.com/video/TSmhTHAvSx0/v-deo.htmlsi=W-TRoS6xhrgGVWUz It is a remarkable piece of music that changes minor Pentatonic scale everytime the chord changes. It is polytonal next level Pentatonic... There are many other things, but that's a start
