- My camera comparison between the excellent 1" equipped Sony Xperia Pro i vs the newest Sony flagship the Xperia 1 IV. Which one can win this?
What do you expect?
Do we have a clear winner?
Which one would you get if money does not matter? - Наука та технологія
That telephoto from the 1iv is a game changer. I wish the Pro-i 2 has that kind of telephoto.
Yes xperia 1 iv
Wanted to see it but nobody made a video but u made it. Appreciated
Pro-i stunning as always, can't wait for the pro-ii
Thank you for the review. I sell items online for a living and have the Sony 5 II and I love the phone however it really picks up the yellow from the warm bulbs in my house. I'm looking to upgrade and I value your review and probably going to go with the Pro.
Fantastic camera comparison! Thank you very much!!
Great comparison besides the flower with different shutter speeds. Please make another when the new models come out!
Awesome comparison! Could you maybe compare the video quality in different scenarios like lowlight and slow-mo?
I was going to buy the 1 iv, but after this video i will definitely go for the pro I for sure. Its soooo goood for photography. The 1 iv is better for filming and vloging
thanks a lof for the review finally in youtube has this, the pro i is so stunnig even in low light but the zoom on 1 iv it better, hope sony make pro -2 wich has periscope zoom like in 1 iv and all lens can record in 4k 120 fps, I just have the 1 II still good till now.
Really helpful comparison, loved the photo part.
On my 1ii jpegs in manual mode are trash quality (in low light especially), is it so on the pro-i and 1iv? Also, I'd love to see a comparison of picture quality with dro vs hdr vs off in both jpeg and raw and in basic, auto and manual modes. There's evidence that the low light mode works with raw in auto mode, so it could be better quality, but Idk any further. Also, no one on youtube has covered the burst mode upgrade and I've even seen some people take single shots with it on, is it any better than on older xperias?
I really appreciate your content. Thank you
Nice comparision BTW. Since I'm more into stills than videography, for me Pro-i is the way. Though 1 IV has a great set of camers specially the Tele but if I'd ever to choose between both of them of course i'd pick up Pro-i
Xperia 1 IV is more versatile while Pro-I produces better pictures (especially in manual mode when you know what to do). But it is only about the main camera. Secondary cameras on Pro-I are nothing but ok.
Anyone please tell me if I should get pro i or 1 iv I wanna get the 1 inch sensor but really want to shoot portraits too
I am super into photography and confused
If someone could confirm that they are going to release a pro i 2 or something like that this year I'm going to get that I really need to upgrade my phone but right now I'm in a bit of a conundrum
FYI I'm going to buy it from the US
Great comparison!
The main camera for Pro-I is still very good. Sad that they are unable to utilize the same sensor for other lenses.
Xiaomi did it...
@@gigimarcone who's that?
When recording 4k 120fps , the Pro I crops the picture. But, the 1iv do not crop.
Danke für den Review !
Bro nice video good knowlegde thank love from india
I knew you would be first!
They are both quite different yes. The Pro i has the better main sensor. Ultra and Tele are better on the 1 IV. IMO the Pro i is still better for landscape shots, especially because of that awsome dual aperture of F2 and F4.
The 1 IV is better in Portrait shots. The focal length of 85mm to 125mm is usually the prefered range of profesional photographers that want to take portrait shots.
I thought 70mm is widely used in the photography world and as far as i know it is one of the holy trinity of lenses.
@@johnroyvincent isn't it 50 mm?!
Well I bought a Xperia Pro-I. Once the bugs are gone, I'll get a 1 IV
Something else to note is the Pro-i can save pictures in RAW. So it saves almost 20x the information. It gives you a lot more to work with for post processing.
Yeah the 1 IV can do that too
@@lltechview GSMarena says it doesn't just the Pro-1
@@joshmayne2853 From the 1 II all 1 and 5 series devices can save raw
5 III can too
If you want convenience you have to sacrifice performance. iv for me because of the 4k 30fps selfie.
I found out on the video pro the Sony Xperia 1 Mark 4 has the ability for you to use the front face camera on the Xperia Mark 4 but you don't have one payment on the pro I
Great video like always! I wanted to get your take on the haptic vibration motor. Is it the same or similar to the motor used in the older Xperia 1 III or would you say it is more on par with the upgraded motor that the Xperia 1 IV uses?
It is the older 1 III one
@@lltechview Thank you so much for the info!!
Hi, I really do love your videos. I have the Sony Xperia 1 IV also and I've been thinking of selling it to get the pro-i. I'm more if a videographer rather than stills. In your opinion, is the pro-i better for video and is it noticable?
Yes the Pro i is bettet especially when using the main lense. In less ideal lighting conditions the Pro i shines in comparison to the 1 IV. Also the background blur is much nicer with it. When it comes to zoom then the 1 IV is the clear winner
@Techview Podcast is it possible to get Hdr on 4k60fps?
Yeah even 120 fps HDR on all three lenses but only with "seemless Zoom" disabled
pls do video nothing 1 model
camera sensor Sony IMX766
For photography which is better? Can i take 120 fps 4k video in all(Wide, ultrawide, teliphoto) camera by pro-i?
Pro i only allows 4k 120fps on the main camera. For photos the 1 IV has the better zoom. The Pro i the better main.
I amazed by low light quality with HDR HLG and imagine that Sony will add pro 2 phone this fall .It will be 2x 1 inch cameras .Absolute monsters
you may also see differences when you compare the same phones. 2 times the 1 IV and 2 times the 1 IV pro. Certainly with automatic focus and other settings, in my opinion, there can still be differences if you compare 2 of the same devices. If this is the case, you can no longer really make that comparison between different phones. Because then you have a wrong equation.
Is there optical image stabilization for both front and back videos at 1080p 60fps? Thanks
Main back has OIS. Front only EIS
@@lltechview super thanks for the quick reply. One last non-Sony question. Would you know if the Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra front camera uses EIS or OIS? I’m comparison shopping and having a hard time finding detailed specs. Thanks.
@@BrightRedStar It should be using EIS aswell
Is this with all the new updates to the camera that sony released? I don't know when it was released!
All updates to that date
The Xperia Pro I has aptX HD sound quality streaming over Bluetooth. You can stream 24 bit sound to your headphones or sound system. It was what made me choose the Pro I over the IV. It also has a better flash.
Flash differences I did not see. Both are weak. As for AptX HD I did not even notice. Used LDAC for most of the TWS I have.
@@lltechview no need to use a separate DAC with the Xperia Pro I. It has superiour sound. (I am a pro musician and I have bat hearing.) The Pro I has Dolby Atmos, 360 Reality Audio, LDAC lossless wireless listening and Sony's DSEE Ultimate to upscale compressed files for higher quality listening.
Bottlenecks in audio are mostly headphones, amplifier, dac, and then audio… but the problem is if you avoid the first few bottlenecks mentioned, you will hear how inferior your Bluetooth connection is compared to wired or Wi-Fi streaming done right. Bluetooth is rubbish in my experience when it comes to smooth sound. Especially class-a amplification ;) hence, I chose iPhone which streams Airplay over Wi-Fi hotspot to my Chord mojo2poly. I also sometimes use my Sony Walkman zx507 which has all the lovely eq features of an Xperia, just even more optimised for audio. Very nice and musical sound… I honestly would get the new zx707 if I were looking for a noticeable upgrade from 24bit Bluetooth.
3:14 it looks like it’s using digital zoom until it switches to the new camera. Is this correct?
Yeah
Very nice skin tones 💯💯💯
A combination of both with a macro lense and it'll be perfect, pro I 2 maybe?
I can't get in my head why sony has not done it already. Macro capabiities like the S22 Ultra would be so awesome.
it is actually now certain that a successor to the Pro i will come.
i have the pro i and i love it. Best camera ever in a smartphone. The pictures are so realistic. The IV is the second best on the market... but no chance against the Pro i😅The zoom capabilities are great on the IV but I use the 24mm on the Pro i 95% it's so superior.
how about portraits?:) 50mm good for them?:)
@@wolandphotography In terms of quality, the 50mm cannot keep up with the 24mm. Sometimes I prefer to use the 24 mm with crop.
@@sosiehtesaus2652 but 24mm is good enough to portraits? there is no longer face of model or hands?:)
@@wolandphotography no, The characteristic is of course different you get more on the picture has less depth of field but everything looks pretty spatial...And we're still talking about a cell phone and not a camera with interchangeable lenses. The 50mm is good and also better than many other devices. However, the quality of the 24 mm is really enormous for a smartphone. That's why I almost exclusively use the 24mm also for portraits
@@sosiehtesaus2652 great thx, do you also like me working only on raws from xperia?
another good video
thank you
thanks i will join the fire brigade soon, i had to reboot the X 1 IV because of overheating :-)
You said the 1 mk IV has the larger sensor? I'm confused? Thought the pro-i unique selling point was a 1 inch sensor?
Exactly. The Pro i has a 1 inch sensor
@@lltechview thanks, but you say in the video the 1 IV has the larger sensor?
@@Deezla Not the main probably talking about some other one
These videos are very useful, thanks. Since you preferred the Xperia 5 IV camera, would you say the Pro-i is still the better one for overall picture and video quality or 5 IV can be the better option?
Pro i
He did not compare Pro I and Xperia 5 IV. He compared Pro I and 1 IV.
The Pro I looks better for still pictures.
I am looking for that
Speaking of Xperia Pro-i
I am expericing "Shutter Lag" issue , this happens even if the phone has just been rebooted. I am saving all my pictures to internal storage (I don't have SD card plugged in)
Exhibit 1 (all scenes are pretty bright, around 1/50 to 1/100 kind of shutter speed, in P mode, single shutter mode, )
When I take a picture on Scene 1, press the shutter, the photo comes out quite instantaenously (thumbnail generated at the left bottom corner) , then quickly point camera to Scene 2, press the shutter, this time it take awhile before the photo comes out (generated as thumbnail at the corner bottom corner), if at any point of time while the thumbnail has yet to be generated and I moved my viewfinder to Scene 3, the final photo capctured will be the photo of Scene 3, rather than Scene 2.
I believe, that the writing speed either takes a dive when shooting back to back pictures in single shutter mode and that result the camera not initiating the shutter, (right at the moment you press it) until the photo is saved (and thumbnail generated).
Exhibit 2 (S mode, constant shutter 1/100 shutter, single shutter mode, DRO, no DRO, Auto HDR)
I repeated the above in S mode, with 1/100 shutter speed to ensure the capture speed is prertty much instantaneous. It's the same issue, the shutter is not really initiated (at the time you click the button w/ confirmation sound) until the last photo is saved and thumbnail is generated, and the picture captured will be where your camera is pointing during the time when last picture was finally saved and thumbnail is generated, not the moment when you pressed the shutter button
Are you experiencing the same thing? It's really annoying, I am practically missing some shots of my son because of this. And continous mode is not really applicable for all occasions (not to mention a pain to seeve through the right picture later on)
I can confirm this behavior. Only workaround is burst mode. In low for example.
@@lltechview oh sigh, trying to get Sony's attention by launching bug report, let's see how it goes.
@@nebousuke any feedback? I also have same issue. Also I have noticed that the camera app has just stopped responding a few times and I had to reboot the whole phone.
@@Jyrgen. I didn't really get much meaningful feedback from them. They are asking more information from me (refer below), some make sense, but some are quite meaningless like RAW pictures of exhibit 1 and 2. I haven't provided them those.
1 IMEI
2 Place or purchase
3 Few RAW images of Exhibit 1.
4 Few RAW images of Exhibit 2.
5 Which Lens does exhibit 1 use and 2 use when taking the picture as the phone has 3 cameras, which will be used depending on the user's zoom level.
6 Are you using a hand or Tripod to take the picture?
Hope next pro - i will have a better telephoto lens!
hello bro, i like take mobile photography, i like take building, nightmode, portrait and professional mode, so which one recommend i take? xperia 1 iv or pro-i or 5 iv ? or waiting next pro-ii / 1 v 😅 thanks bro reply
All of them are great. I personally prefer the Pro i for the better main sensor.
which is best Portrait mode ? 1 iv or pro i
Portait mode as in fake bokeh. On par. Otherwise the 3.5x zoom has more natural bokeh for portraits
Great video comparison. The pro-i and The xperia 1 iii are currently have similar prices. Which would you recommend in 2023? Which is better for basic camera use?
Pro i just because of the better main cam
@@lltechview thank you
Am thinking about picking up the pro-i but worried that the software support will end in 1 year so I might get the mark iv
Upgrades but not updates.
@@lltechview so did it receive the final android update or will it get the next android version
@@hayatomoe1 It should get Android 13. Not sure about 14 though. You will get however security patches
How about overheating on both?
Pro i tends to not heat up as the 1 IV. Both however after all the updates on the same level I would say
Sony Mobile my favourite, video is super ultimate
which one is better for vlogging and video recording??
My personal favorite is the Pro i because of its mono mic and quality for vlogs.
@@lltechview Thank you.
I think all mobile photography can be improved with third party tools like filter attachments .
Night photography is a bit of an oxymoron. There is no light at night only artificial electric or reflecting from moon light.
I was considering one of these are an external monitoring for linking to a dedicated camera.
I think colour science is irrelevant if you shoot using the raw image format. But I don't think everybody edits their photos. However the majority of sony users probably are.
What's about the macro mode?
There is none. The ultrawide has AF but cannot do macro.
@@lltechview thank you
Someone on r/sonyxperia said that there is a new update for the xperia 1 iv recently and said that that seems to have improved the overheating issue of the phone. Did you receive for your phone? How did the phone operate when you were filming and taking pictures? Did it constanly overheat? the xperia 1 iv
And the video recording where you can switch between lenses without having to the stop the recording is a good quality of life improvement
I did had to do some pauses. But this video came out before the new update arrived. As for the update I did not notice an improvement for the camera app. Just the switch to 60Hz for the display does not happen anymore
@@lltechview Das bedeutet, dass wenn man das Handy einfach normal benutzt oder mal ein Foto zwischendurch macht, dann bleibt das Display bei 120 hz und man muss nicht 2 Minuten warten? Das wäre ja immerhin schon mal was. Danke für das Review!
@@lltechview was there any improvement on the telephoto softness?
@@mattyanderson1938 Still testing. I expect slight improvements
Thanks for the comparison which had me veering from one phone to the other.
Any possibility of some night time photos?
I wonder if Sony is using a higher level of computation in the 1 IV to compensate for the smaller sensor.
Besides the few shots seen nothing much. Sony tends to control bright spots a bit better on the 1 IV in night mode but thats it
@Jonathan Andrew A few days ago I gave into temptation when I saw a well known retailer, which offers a 2 year warranty on it's items, had a 'Grade A' Xperia Pro-i for £785.
The 24mm lens which uses the cropped 1" sensor really does produce lovely images.
On the other hand the omission of longer focal lengths is a real loss.
@Jonathan Andrew It really is a matter of ' horses for courses'.
With regard to your use of cameras what constitutes the majority of your photography, and videography, and how much of that utilises focal lengths longer than 50mm?
@Yowq Bams so which phone did you get? For me same dilemma, cause now pro-I is cheaper than IV.. 😐
@@gywas seems like im not the only one who can’t decide to pick which one 😅

@@lltechview what month do you think ??

Nope
The value of a used Pro-i appears to have plummeted.
A UK wide retail chain which specialises in selling used electronic goods, with a 2 year warranty, has a Grade A Pro-i for £785.
Temptation won.
I got one used for £500 at one of those high street phone shops. Mint condition with a screen protector applied and perfectly aligned. Came with a bulky case though which I don't really like.

@@lltechview thanks 👍
What's the best Sony for video?
Xperia Pro i imho because of the large main sensor.
location plz...
Cologne, Germany close to the river rhine
My other thoughts were that rather than having multiple cameras which use lesser sensors. Why not have one larger lens which can function as wide to a telephoto.
You also have android onboard which can be less cumbersome than some camera operating systems.
So you could also including other applications like motion stackers for astrophotography, smooth textures in landscapes etc.
Then you might ask yourself can't buy a camera instead. Well yes, you could compromise in some areas to keep prices down however anybody who takes this sort of thing seriously won't mind paying a bit extra. Nor will they care about that iPhone has more instantaneous pleasing results.
Even the best hasselblad needs imaging tweaking.
Would make it a lot thicker though. Kind of reminds me of the Samsung Galaxy Zoom
@@lltechview it's a compromise. Style over aesthetics and therefore a physical limitation. I believe the only alternative could be interchangeable camera lens modules alas you are basically in pro gear territory. With a 2.75 crop factor it would be lesser than aps-c but better than current tech available.
I looked at the Samsung k zoom...never knew it existed. Imagine sony implemented this using current fabrication sizes. Even if it was limited to 120mm focal length it would still make a great pocket camera.
Will there be Xperia pro ii
I hope so. Maybe with another name like Xperia 1 IV Pro or something like this
Why is it that only iPhones can zoom slowly and stably like in the cinema. It puts me off when I see this jittery 'zoom' on Huawei and Sony. Quite useless.
Huawei has a slider and you have to do it manually. Maybe my skill is not so good.
@@lltechview maybe so but anyone can zoom smoothly on an iPhone. It's a software thing. (and I hate iPhone)
@@armsby You press buttons there and don't slide
@@lltechview Ok, put it this way = the iPhone prevents jitter when zooming. The others don't. Jitter is not usefull so why do you have to learn how to slide like a pro? Don't even know if it's even possible.
Maybe you could do a video on that topic. If I want to make a nice Video I swap my Huawei with Leica cameras for my wife's iPhone 11 Pro. Because it zooms properly as you'd expect in a film.
If I'm wrong - prove it.
@@armsby Yeah will check this out if I have the chance. But I do not own a iPhone that has this capability
Pro-i does almost everything right, I wonder why they discontinued it
They did? Probably because a successor is coming soon
Sony ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love sony
2:53 well it wasn't focused on your face so maybe not perfect for blogging lol
It looses focus sometimes in harsh lighting conditions. The same issue other phones have aswell if the sun light hits the sensor in a special angle.
Only way to fix it would be adding a Laser AF
Compare 1 iv with 13 pro max. I want to see video capabilities of both devices cuz iPhone is said to be the best for the video
I do not have the 13 Pro max here
@@lltechview ok
