I have done everything in this video and more to get my resident 14-year-old female and my new male cat who is 18 months old to get along. It has been 6 months that the new cat has lived in my home. My resident female goes into defense mode as soon as she sees the new cat, hissing and growling, until the new cat back downs and she is able to hide. Both cats have a history of being socialized with other cats. It is heartbreaking as my new cat is so sweet and friendly. When I am not around, they have to be kept in separate living areas.

Same here. I rescued a female kitten who was under a car , my resident cat is 8 yrs female and very much a nomad. It’s been about 4 months and there is slightly less aggression from resident cat but new cat is rambunctious and will be a bully sometimes Hope you have luck with yours, I just give them few minutes together until I feel the tension build up. But for now one up and one downstairs, they will break eventually. My resident cat hated me for almost a year and refused to come downstairs except to eat.

Thank you to everyone who watched our video! Our dear clinic cat, Jack, crossed over the rainbow bridge at the beginning of February. He was almost 20 years old. We have had lots of comments regarding the litter box and water bowl placement in our video. We kept the litter box and water bowl right next to Jack's tower when he was still living. He was very old with a stump foot and had a hard time getting around. We did our best to accommodate him by keeping his water and litter box as close to him as possible. Our staff members gave Jack fresh water numerous times a day. He also had other litterboxes placed around the clinic for the days that he felt like getting a bit more exercise. We will do anything we can to keep our pets comfortable! RIP Jack

Unfortunately my two rescues will be enemies till the end. Female is 17, male is 10, and they've been together for 6 yrs, I already follow all of your suggestions, but anytime they cross paths in the house, it's full-on war. The female is a "growler" and sounds ferocious but is 1/3 the size of the male, who really wouldn't mind having a playmate but the female is old and grumpy so she won't change. I keep a water bottle nearby and just seeing it makes them disappear into different rooms.

Nothing works with my oldest girl and my ginger boy. To be honest I think I may be the problem. All 3 cats in the household are more sticky with me and tend to seek my attention over my wife's. Since there's only one of me and those 2 don't like sharing property, it gets difficult when one sees the other getting more attention. Thankfully the middle child is more free and easy and often acts as a bridge by being friends with both.

If the cat has a whole room, don't put the water bowl next to a litter box and don't put the food bowl next to either. No they don't want the water next to their food. Humans do it for human convenience.
My problem cats are all boys and they are all fixed. One boy thinks he has to attack the girls because it's fun to chase them but they get upset. The other boy is happy to play with him but they get to playing too rough and it turns into a squall unless I distract one of them with the laser pointer or catnip.

I have 5 cats, of which only the 4 can tolerate each other. The other one is incredibly territorial. For background info, he’s 7 years old, as well as his companion who is a female. Anakin(male) and Asuna(female). They’ve been together since day one. When we got another cat, he could not get along with her. Super aggressive, possible introduction gone wrong. Soon after, we got another cat(a kitten this time). Same situation but when we introduced this new cat to the previous new cat, they got along just fine. So, we separated the four cats. Anakin and Asuna share one side of the house, and the other two have the other side. We had this dynamic for about 2-3 years. Now recently, we got ANOTHER cat(this time a kitten again). We have yet to introduce this one to Anakin due to previous outcomes with the other cats (extremely loud fights and chases, horrifying). Now we are genuinely considering putting him up for adoption. The only thing holding us back is the fact that we’d be separating his long-term companion(Asuna) from him. We feel like this would seriously impact both of them and we are not cruel enough to do that. So, we’re stuck :|. I had considered giving away this new kitty so that things could go back to the way they were, but my mother is too attached. I have no clue what to do and this is extremely frustrating.

We even manage to do this in the tiny quarantine rooms/boxes we have at the shelter, surely it would be possible in a lobby. Also, pretty sure most cat behaviourists advices against using a spray bottle....

Ive had 2 feral kitties (sisters from same litter but diff fathers) since birth on my porch. They were so protective of each other. They played and cleaned each other everyday. When they turned a little over 1yr old I moved to new apt. From that moment on they have become sworn enemies. I've done everything suggested but I'm worn out trying to reintegrate them in new space. They each get jealous over any time I spend with the other kitty. So I end up doing everything twice while the other one glares from sidelines. They have totally opposite personalities and I try to adjust my interaction to each one I've accommodated for all of it. I just really wish they could be the loving sisters they were or very least cordial...I feel like and they act like I'm betraying the other kitty when I spend time with her sister...if ANYONE has ANY advice on what might work...I would be eternally grateful and huge bonus will be stacked in your karma bank!

I am not sure how long ago you moved, but it can take pets up to a year after a major life change to return to their normal behavior. When we moved into our new house 2 out of 3 of our cats developed behavioral issues/health changes. One of my cats shredded the garbage bag every single day. He would get in horrible fights with our other cat. It was difficult but we were persistent with breaking up fights, scolding our cat for shredding garbage bags, using scented bags and child safety locks to deter that behavior, among other things. After about 5 months, this behavior stopped.
If you are still dealing with behavioral issues between your cats, it is a great idea to visit your veterinarian. They can make recommendations and prescribe medications when needed. You can also look into a veterinary behaviorist!

I even constructed a gate in my hallways to prevent the male from getting at my EXTREMELY shy female (it took me 6 months to pet her). We can feed them treats right next to each other without issues but as soon as the food goes away you can feel the tension rising. HOPEFULLY in the near future I can take the gate down, remove pet carriers/pens, and just allow them to coexist.

An electrical malfunction meant I slept in the studio for the first time, and I sense their territoriality kicked in. I woke up to a fight that I broke up with a loud sound. But the mom ( who is the tinier one ) keeps beating on the male catc every opportunity she gets. I have separated her in an enclosed balcony space with her own food, water, litter box and sleeping space. She likes the balcony, and usually sulks there when we come back from the vet. The 5 years old cat (Diana) has really bad experiences with meeting new cats and she’s VERY afraid and angry when she sees the new kitten, she doesn’t attack at all just hisses at him. and when she attacks the kitten lets her hit him. The new kitten (pumpkin) is really sweet and really playful when he saw Diana he was ready to play with her even tho it was his first time meeting her. They already met but we didn’t do any steps or anything :( I know that's the problem. for some reason pumpkin doesn’t like to eat from his bowl he likes to eat from Diana’s bowl, the same thing with the litter box he usually goes to HIS litter box but I noticed sometimes he goes to Diana’s litter box. every time he sees Diana he runs after her he really wants to play with her but he plays aggressively and Diana thinks he’s attacking her. we got pumpkin 2 months ago so when we first got him, he was 2 months old, he was abandoned that's why we got him at a really young age. they’re still like this to this day it’s been 2 months!! :c i don't know what to do now! Diana hides most of the time because he’s around. pumpkin is not around all the time because he's with my mom that works out of town so he comes at the weekends and holidays only.

My older cats have never shown sign of aggresiveness but it has been 3 vet visits for stiching them and 1 ER visit for stitching my hand after trying to separate and save my older cats. It is so stressfull for all of us. And I have to keep this new cat on cage 24h and he is howling almost every night and I have to apologize to my neighbours. When I release him around the house, I have to keep my older cats in another closed room. He is affectiones to human only. Can anyone suggest how to approach this? We want them to get along and want him to roaming free in the house.
Animal advisor has suggested us to open addoption on him. But no one comes due to his deaf. And we do love him regardless.

    Thank you for your video.
We have too cats really hate each other.
Too bad they are mum and daughter, but they seem to have forgotten.
We used to have a third male cat (Obama) and he was very peaceful towards other cats.
He was the brother of the mum, but he was on good terms with both cats, and especially the daughter cat really loved him:
when she was a kitten she only went to her mum for milk and then went to Obama.
Interestingly Obama and the mum cat raised her kittens together, Obama made sure they didn't escape from the garden, groomed than and sometimes disciplined them if they were misbehaving.
It was really cute to see how they were coordinating this, as they both seem to agree on rules for the kittens, such as forbidding them to leave the garden and to go out of their eyesight. We really did not intervene, the cats decided themselves when the kittens were ready for the next expansion of their territory.
We kept one kitten, and unfortunately she never became friends with her mum, just with Obama.
After Obama died, they got very hostile and are fighting all the time.
Obama was not quite a dominant male; sometimes the two female get pushed him for food, and he would then just wait for them to be finished eating to show up in the kitchen.
He always tried to avoid conflicts and did not seem to take a side when the two were fighting.
I really have no clue why the two females are so hostile, nor do I know why the presence of Obama made sure they were calm.
I guess they feared he would intervene if one would attack the other.
They both like different food so there is not much of a competition there.
They did not seem to be annoyed when we were giving attention to the male cat, but if we were petting one of the female cats the other one looks angry.
The only thing I can think of is introducing two similar litter boxes, now we have two different ones. Aside from that, I have no idea what we could do. Introducing a third cat that is sociable to other cats may be an option, but I think because the female cats are quite old this will give them a lot of stress.
Oh, all three cats were spayed or neutered.
I wonder if someone has an idea of why they are so hostile and in what way they might feel they have to compete and most importantly what else we can do to make sure there will be peace.

With my now ex we got two cats, something like two years in between them (and cat #2 is two years younger, too). Now, thing is, cat #1 was used to be always alone with humans, granted. But cat #2 was said to be friendlier and likes cats better than he does humans. He clearly doesn't act hostile towards cat #1, mostly seems to want to play is all. Cat #1, however, NEVER liked him, still don't. She'll tolerate him but he mustn't come closer than paw swatting distance, or there will be hissing and growling (to which, sometimes, cat #2 responds to by play fighting). It's kinda sad they don't get along any better, but then the personnality difference might just be it. Never saw cat #2 hiss or growl at cat #1, not even once in about 4 years of them being together, it's always cat #1 doing the hissing and growling (sometimes to the point of screaming).

I'm a little surprised that as a professional you are still advocating the use of spray bottles. The majority of experts believe that it is a punishment and will create a negative association, so breaking up a fight has that but then you are also creating a fear state. Not only are the cats going to be unhappy, they're not going to trust you anymore

Sometimes they are just playing with each other, but if it seems like they aren't playing I will break up the fight and they go their separate ways. If you are really concerned you could schedule a behavioral consult with your vet.

You can try giving your cat a toy or blanket from your new cat to introduce their scent. You can keep it with them for several days, until it loses scent of the other cat. There is no perfect solution, unfortunately. It requires a lot of trial and error when introducing cats to each other.

      @molitorpetclinicstaff4990  3 роки тому

Many of the steps you can incorporate into your cat's routine all at once. For example, providing multiple hiding spots and litter boxes is something to start right away. Keeping your cat's separate at meal times and slowly easing them into meal times together is a process that will depend on each individual cat. Some cats start to get along very quickly, while others may always need to eat their meals separate from one another. A lot of it is trial and error as well as monitoring your pet's behaviors. I hope this helps!

I locked my sisters two cats in a dog kennel for a week because they did not get along and it became very annoying. It took 3 days for the hissing and spitting to stop then on day 6 they were laying together peacefully. Because of that I let them out and problem solved. Now when they walk by each other there’s no hissing or spitting. That way worked for me but maybe not other cats.
