I now use specialists for my BMW, so much cheaper, and it has no effect on the warranty as long as it's done to schedule using BMW parts. Had a first service (basically an oil change) dealer wanted £370, specialist £180! Those fancy showrooms have to be paid for somehow!
£399 for an oil change and inspection on an s4 sounds like good value, as my wife has an a1 1.4 tfsi cost £399 for the same job! Looks like one price fits all models. 🤔 Love the two dogs!👍
Shop around. You were ripped off. Phone around and you will make a saving. Bigger savings then go to an independent garage; use of genuine part won't invalid warranty.
My S5 has been serviced by an Audi garage. It’s now well out of warranty and developed a water leak...it’s a cab.Because I had it regularly serviced by them, they have a ‘goodwill’ system and they covered the full repair.Have it done by a non Audi garage and there is NO goodwill.So..spending the extra (ie £150 per service) at the main dealer meant ‘Audi goodwill’ covered the £2000 repair !!!
Very informative video. I've had my 2017 B9 S4 for just over 3 years now and the last service I had at 33,000 miles was done by a local VW/Audi independent specialist for £250, that was for an inspection and an oil service, including a loan car for the day, very pleased! It's out of warranty, but I am planning on keeping the car. I am pleased that the ex-demonstrator we bought does have the matrix LEDs, amazing at night! I am fairly new to watching videos on UA-cam and I am embarrassed to say that I have just found that there are further settings in the "individual" drive mode that I didn't know about! Thanks to your videos!
When ever I take the RS4 in for service I supply my own oil. You will find that is a big chunk of the cost. My car takes 9 litres and at Audi price of about £14/litre that is quite a bit. Not all dealerships let you provide your own but ask them.
Good feedback. My 140i has enjoyed free servicing for the last 3 years and a very thorough inspection and oil change all for free. Obviously I now have to start paying for stuff as the vehicle is now out of warranty.
I have packed my '17 Clubman to just what you did. 3 times San Francisco to Seattle. 760 miles. Last month got my 2020 Clubman JCW. First time in 40 years I have had 2 of the same make and model. Absolutely love it.
Just watched this for about the 5th time... Love it! Just had my 2016 320d touring serviced at Sytner and cost £426 for a major service on 53k. Going to miss the daily vlogs
Really enjoying these updates. I'm another subscriber who's bought a petrol S4 avant without driving one based solely upon yours and Sam Moores' videos. We regularly drive from West Sussex to Somerset with 2 kids (bikes, luggage etc.) and I take it for occasional blast around the countryside to clear the head! I'd find it difficult to consider many other cars which tick all the boxes as well as this car, particularly in the winter. Thanks again.
Hello Peter, Thanks for another informative and interesting video. I owned an Audi a few years ago from new and like you I did wince once or twice when I was handed the bills for simply routine servicing at my local dealer. The dealer was good though and very thorough. It paid off for me when it came to sell it as a neighbour wanted to buy it. They had seen how well the car was looked after and with a full main dealer service record I didn't even have to try to get a really good price for it. I used to live not too far away from you but now live in the South West of France about 40 mins inland from Biarritz . The one thing I notice is how busy the roads are in the UK compared with here. There are some amazing roads heading up into the Pyrenees and over into Spain and most of the time they are virtually empty. I have enjoyed watching your channel over the past few months. Thank you for all of the hard work and the hours you put in to make it so enjoyable. Have a great Christmas and enjoy the New Year with your wife and pooches !
My 2015 BMW 116d needed an oil change a few weeks ago. My local BMW main dealer would charge around €170 for the oil and filter. Instead, as it's out of warranty anyway, I bought 5l of Shell Helix Ultra and a filter for €55 and did it myself. The brakes will need doing soon and for front and rear pads and discs, the main dealer charges nearly €900 for the normal brakes. I mean, seriously? As others have said, the ridiculously high service costs on premium German brands are a bit much to be asking for.
To all those arguing for a specialist for service work I would say that you either pay the main dealer price to get a credible stamp in the book or just DIY if your planning to keep the car long term. You control the quality of materials and, if you use a 12v oil pump, you don't even need to get dirty. Maintaining the mfg warranty seems less compelling to me than maximising resale value.
Your videos have been priceless about the S4 Avant and suffice to say I’ll be buying an S4 Avant later this year with a view of having certain spec on the car like matrix lights, virtual cockpit, internal lighting pack and panoramic sunroof if I can get it. Keep the videos coming, Tony. 👍
It's an oil change AND inspection service. Just having an oil change will be less, but then going to an oil change every 12 months will cost you more, than staying with the long life service regime. Providing your own oil (VW group approved) will help lower that cost - there is a main dealer near Horsham who will accommodate that and also provides exceptional service.
In my experience a service inspection, which includes an oil change and filter, will cost the sum of parts, and labour. Therefore the cost is understandable, because its not just the oil change. Surprised bi-annual serving too.
I have a 2018 2.0TFSI A5 and was quoted just shy of £400 from Audi CAMBRIDGE for the same Oil & Inspection Service. Turns out most dealers will match a local (within 10 miles) Audi specialist. Little bit of a faff as they need to see an email from the specialist with the price and a statement that they use genuine Audi parts but got the price down to £235. Which was nice.
Hi Ped Enjoyed the run down to Cornwall with you, recognised the roads, cannot wait until next May when we go down again. Service cost steep, yes, but like you I prefer main dealer service history. Have opted for annual service & inspection together with MOT, giving me reassurance that all is well. You pay your money and take a choice. Great to see Pooch & Pup enjoying first class travel.🤗🤗 All the best to you & Mrs PP for Christmas and New Year. Hopefully may catch up at Members Meeting.
Merry Christmas to you to my friend. I will be at MM, I'm taking my eldest brother as he is a Jaguar racing nut and the are doing a tribute to TWR this year 👍
"Like" for the thoughts on getting snow tires. Even if the UK is not getting too much snow like we do in Russia, when I lived in UK, I felt like if I happen to own a car in UK, I'd get a winter tires for the mild winter just due to the avg. temps and traction in the cold.
7 speed Auto makes a nice difference to MPG when it gets to use it on a run. My B8 S4 hit 36mpg on a run up to Wales whereas my K1 Cupra and Mk3 Focus RS on similar trips only saw low 30's. Great to hear though that the S4 B9 is good on MPG for if I spot a great spec one when prices start to drop.
I have just just taken the fixed service plan package for my Q5. The cost is £468 which will cover the next 2 x oil servicing and this is with Audi which is a good deal.
Main dealer service stamps vs second resale price. Don't think it's worth it these days. A nice to have but not a deal breaker when I'm buying. Great video. :)
Loved the trip to Cornwall,in the fabulous S4,, we live in Southern California (Carlsbad) where we have access to mountain roads and desert blasts..I bought the S4 for my wife a few months ago ,and can't keep my hands off it,,I drive a BMW M235i which is fun with the M sport exhaust and Hankook tyres , I miss my 1998 E36 M3 ,which I had turned into a track car ,and had 15 years of fun track events .Its still doing well with my young talented friend Bryan winning both races recently at Laguna Seca. I used to spend every summer as a boy on relatives farms outside St Columb Major ,5 miles from Newquay and still miss Cornwall immensely.( when i was very young a D type jag came flying down the narrow road outside the farm ,the driver's elbows were working over time ).Love the petrol pups,,drop in and see us when you are ever in California Cheers Richard...
Great Review and a great mix of Performance & Practicality! Would love to see you do a review at the other end of the spectrum a totally & completely impractical car no room at all, no storage, no roof box or Bike carrier BUT highest Smiles per Gallon ever! It's time for a Morgan Three Wheeler review!
Great video as always. At 46k my A6 popped up with brakewear yesterday. I'm told both pads and discs are ok but the edge of the disc has cut the sensor wires hence error. Advice, change pads & discs. Apparently this is normal now 🙄 Audi would charge over £1k, national chain, £300 less. Bonkers. Happy Christmas to all Peddlers 🎄🎁❄
Just to add to Robert, I'd be a tad annoyed that a safety system(s) sensor "can be disabled " by the brake disk cutting the wires. Personally, and fully IMO I'd be creating a MASSIVE stink about that at the service desk..
I wasn’t expecting to see this one thru to the end, but I was wrong. I started listening to the narration, while looking at the English countryside pass by, and was taken by how similar it is to Northern Piedmont Virginia, USA. Fascinating.
Once again hello from Peru. I love these videos you do - slowly catching up!! I must be having the best or worse mid life crisis!! My last 2 cars have been BMW X5, I fact I have had BMWs since 2008. I have been without a vehicle since January this year but my time in Peru is coming to a close and I find myself looking to what to get next. I loved the video on the Audi TTS and through that would be great, then I realised I could do with rear seats that could be used so watched the videos on the S3 thinking that would do. Now I’m thinking is the S3 going to be as practical as an S4 avant. Like I said - proper mid live crisis mode!!
Great video I really like your car....life doesn't get much better cruising in a nice car with mans best friends....love my dog too.....merry Christmas p.p
Heh, I just Googled "Car for sale £400, and newsnow came up with 336 results under £400!!! LoL! But I've also just spent well over that on an Xmas pressie for someone. Not me, I already bought mine! 😉
I've not had experience of Audi Peter but when I buy JLR I always negotiate a service package in with the deal for the car. 32mpg with that load is brilliant and I'd be chuffed myself with that. Thanks for a great years vids and have a great xmas. Taking the hybrid RR to Verbier in January so that should be interesting
Did oil,oil filter, pollen filter and air filter myself on my 2008 audi s5. Oh and also spark plugs and all of that was less the £400! Eurocarparts have 50% off sales regularly. No way would I use audi dealers they wanted over £100 just to code a new battery to my car....outrageous!! Knowledge is power and it was surprisingly easy to do. One thing to add, when you do it yourself you know it's really been done........just saying :-)
A lot of money... That's an understatement... IT'S TAKING THE PISS... A suffient amount of top grade oil... and filter can be purchased for under £60... So £335 just to inspect(or take a look at it) on an almost new car (less than 1hrs work) is outrageous and fool those that purchase an Audi.
Biggest issue is that if you break down pricing, Audi charge around £20+VAT for 1litre of oil. In these instances either eBay or Opie Oils is your friend where you get the same VW504.00/507.00 spec oil at around £5 litre. Oil & Inspection service on my RS7 is around £400 which includes 9 litres of oil, when I supply my own the price is sub £200. So long you supply the right grade which is Castrol Edge Titanium FST 5W-30 Audi can't refuse to use it.
Firstly... I hope you have a great Christmas, and guessing by the amount of booze in the car, you will. :D I've not yet serviced my TTS but I'm now thinking to avoid the main dealers. I remember Ford wanting to charge me £220 for an inspection and an air filter change on the ST! I average 25mpg in the TTS but I mostly do short journeys and I use the loud pedal as much as I can. Still not changed the tyres despite a lot of miles and two track days. They have worn really evenly and still have some tread however, the car doesn't feel as planted now as I'd expect it so I might have to change them soon. Have a safe journey back Pete!
Have a great Christmas and New Year! I used to have a miniature schnauzer called ted, :) Current Have an S3 sport back at the minute (java green) , hope your enjoying the car
Another classic for a family with a dog. making my mind up to have a clubman jcw to replace my clubman S and keep the wifes jcw roadster as as classic. Just need to have a digital dash in the new clubman before purchasing
Words of warning. Coming from a Cornish farming family some members have holiday cottages for rent. Last year one holiday family did £2000 of damage to one property and this year another group over £1000 damage. Kids jumping on beds. Also some locals are getting quite militant about second homes for rent. So make sure you have a local management group to oversee the property and minimise the risks.
Thanks for the heads up Roger. We have indeed got a local management company, have used local trades and Mrs PP is from Cornwall. We can see her first house from our new one 👍
Morning pal. I am amazed how fast the year has gone. I remember you contacting us here in Lincolnshire about Hallie Pirelli. I do like this S4. I’d consider replacing our 5 series with one even. I’m impressed with that economy. I always enjoy ya vlogs.
The oil cost alone is about £180 via Audi. Then add labour on top. It's a rip-off. The oil itself from Opie is about £100 less. My local dealer used to allow me to take my own oil but they refused this last service so I went to an independent. Much cheaper and they still updated the electronic service history, much the same as Audi would. I am out of warranty though on the RS6 so perhaps not as critical going away from Audi for the service work.
I never use the main Audi dealers for servicing either of my two Audis - they rip you off and treat you like shit. Use an independent garage and they use the same parts, but charge you WAY less. Warranty is unaffected in the UK if you choose not to use a main dealer, as long parts are Audi approved. Service is also much more personable as well.
Warranty may, resell value however might be a different issue. Also, if you lease the car it is likely mandatory to go to a main dealer. I am waiting for my stupid non-Audi lease to run out before going back to Audi - but my current car (Ssangyong) don't have a service schedule per-se - they always say - every 10k miles and the service is always 350-400 .. annoying.
Hi Peter, Another interesting video as usual. Quite shocking to hear the cost of an oil change from Audi, but if you drive a big car, expect big bills! I say that as a small car owner! 🚘 Regarding your fuel consumption, I get quite upset if mine drops below 56mpg! 🤣🤣 As an aside, I topped up the fuel in my boat yesterday to bring it back up to full - £103 for 93 litres of red diesel. Quite happy to pay that, as I’d sooner have a boat with a 287hp straight six diesel (which is supercharged and turbocharged) than own a big car, but thats my choice. 🛥 So, to close, I’d like to wish you and Mrs PP (and the hounds) and all the Pedlars out in UA-cam-land all the very best for Christmas and the New Year. To coin a phrase, “drive safe” (if you have to drive at all). 👍🏻 from the Wirral.
Yes I have the same problem with my display changing back to non google map and having to go back into menu to change it.I don't no the reason as sometimes if you flip the nav button on your centre console after about 10 or less seconds it goes back to to google maps! My 1st service on my 2017 A5 SB 252hp TFSi cost €350.They wanted €65 for new wipers but went to Halfords and bought the same type Bosch set for €45.
Pete the Audi service plan is great value for money. £20pm gets you an 18m plan with 2 services; one of which is a major. You save £100’s. Available up to 100,000 miles. Check it out - we run 3 Audi’s this way.
Hi Pete just want to wish yourself and all of your family, friends and fellow UA-camrs an awesome Christmas and healthy and prosperous New Year. Thanks for all your great reviews this year. I'm looking forward to 2020s content already I expect Ernie will be seeing more and more Evs next year lol. Hope Santa 🎅 brings you all you desire I told him you've been a good boy this year so 🤞. All the best Pete 👍🏁
Paid £316 at BMW for an identical service on my M2. Note: Lost £800 at trade in on a company Audi we had (wherever we took it), by having taken it out of dealer network servicing JUST ONCE. As soon as they saw service history - wallop! Didn't save that at the independent garage.
@@PetrolPed Just looking at the invoice oil was £117.00 (6.5 x £18 per litre which seems to be over 2 x online price!), filter £18.67, screenwash £2.65, Microfilter £22.50, oil change labour £33.75, vehicle check labour £22.50 and then VAT on top. But hey ho the sheer fun of ownership makes this irrelevant...
I just don’t do main dealer anymore, A- I want to save a small fortune and B- I want it done properly. Got a brand new M240i, had a stage 1 remap and don’t want BMW resetting anything like they sometimes do, I’ve found a great bmw specialist and have it serviced annually instead of two yearly. As far as warranty goes I needed a whole new rear light cluster as the indicator had a brain of its own, called them up and it got changed no questions asked. If the engine failed i wouldn’t have a leg to stand on as it’s had the remap, the B58 is invincible so I’ll take that risk.
That's why I use a Skoda specialist for my Octavia 4x4 and we agree whats going to be done.My neighbour had a really bad run in with Mercedes over them refusing to do the work he asked for and insisting on an " inspection ". They missed loads and made up other stuff that didn't need doing. They wanted to flush the auto box when the auto box specialist said don't flush it whatever you do, just change the filter. I've just fitted four Goodyear Vector 4 seasons all weather tyres. I've just done 1500 miles on them and OK so far.
Yeah that seems well over the top, here for oil changes I take my own oil in because you can obviously buy it considerably cheaper than dealers charge but I’m not sure all dealers would wear that, I do buy the same oil they’re using though.
That service price is outrageous! If we're being generous and say the oil and filter came to £95 (which is far to expensive) what did you get for £300? An 'inspection" which is basically have a look under the car for something else they can charge you for, usually brakes, especially if there is a child's seat in the car. In the end it's only really another Audi dealer who cares about dealer services, as if the car has been serviced by an independent they can pull a long face and offer less when you come to trade it in. Any other dealer marque is not that bothered as they are most likely going to punt it off to BCA so they can sell it via Cazoo.
BMW wanted £330 for my M240 oil change. I bought my own oil from the same dealers parts department and saved £50. I watched the car on a tracker app. it's wasn't in the workshop 45 minuets.
The Nav drops back to standard when the car loses the LTE connection. Was never an issue for me in London but happens all the time up here on the Fen. The service cost is unsurprising - what is disappointing is that the techs are not really that competent in my experience. I had an intermittent but occasional total brake failure in the RS3 witnessed by Audi Assist but Audi Watford couldn't diagnose the problem and wanted me to take the car back. Thankfully they stacked it (not known whether this was a braking issue or and overcrowded yard thing) and I managed to reject it. To be fair to them, they replaced it with a car with an increased spec (including Matrix - how cool are they?). I decided that I would prefer the car to be serviced by a quality indie - I intend to hold the car for a fair while given the direction of travel in the industry. I think the quality of the techs and work is far higher than will be found at a main dealer.
Hehe, you covered a lot of my homeward, after visiting family in the South East, journey in this vid. And I reckon that section @ 12:20 , where you said how much you enjoyed the sound in sport mode, was performed on that mile and a half dual stretch, which passes famous places, such as Long Bredy and Little Cheney. It's a nice bit of road than can be made to seem twisty, if one pushes on somewhat, to, erm, seventy one, er, officer.🚔 🥺
Hi Ped, it's funny but both the things you wish the car had are things that I wouldn't want, also you could have the Cooper JCW if you just brought your food & drink from local Cornish shops (putting money back into the local community) so you wouldn't require the extra space in the car when travelling down. If you consider the effort in changing the oil that is a truly extortionate price and I suspect that it was all completed in well under an hour too. Thanks for the video
You mentioned mevigessy ! I love it there, are you renting the holiday home to friends and family only ? If it’s the general public too I’ll be interested as we visit every year, me the Mrs and the two kids. Let me know 👍🏻
Yes, it will be rented out in the New Year. I'll be doing a video walk around once it is done and will give details then. It is going to be very special 👌
Love my Audi’s I’ve had a few now, just changed my SQ5.. That dash is looking very (very) dated.. I really don’t like how (not just them) they stick the infotainment screen on the dash, it looks like it’s just blue tacked on😞😞 Though they save money on all those retraction motors 😉😉
£400 for an oil change is rip off. Our X5 first oil change which BMW say needs a replacement pollen filter at wait for it over £100! But you get a “free inspection “ total bill over £600😳 absolutely ridiculous. Merry Christmas to you and petrol pups.
Wow. My car is out of warranty so there's a saving but £400! I now use oil that costs £90 for 5 ish litres supply my own (oversize) Mann filter, cost from local indy £45. oil change every 2 years. Every 2 years. vorsprung dur technic my ARSE!
Hi Pete, at the price you paid for your service, they should have included a few shares of stock from the oil rig it came from! Whew. Good to see the "pup" and "pooch" as always. They behave magnificently for your trips. I enjoy these "family" type vids' as much as the others. Have a pint and please give the girls a scratch or two as usual. Have a great day mate. Cheers from Michigan in the USA.
I don’t trust trip computer for consumption. My car does at least 2mpg better than the trip reads. I have created spreadsheets showing individual tank, yearly & lease term (3 years) cost and consumption. Great video as always. Have a great Christmas & New year.
MrTinkx It is software I created myself. Very easy formula to work out. Brim the tank and make a note of the mileage or reset the trip. Drive as normal. Next time you fill the tank make a note of how many miles you have driven, then divide that by the number of litres used to refill the tank. Finally times that by 4.5467 (the number of litres in gallon) in the uk. Eg 418 miles/40 litres x 4.5467 = 47.5mpg.
Andrew Gibbs Thank you Andrew. I think my father used to do a similar thing in the days before fuel consumption computers! I’ll make a spreadsheet on my mobile and record and see how this real world consumption compares with the computer one.
FcpEuro here in the states is $89.99 for the oil change kit, when you send back the used oil they will refund the $89.99 back to your account.. oh and it literally takes 10 minutes as a diy project.
Evening ! Love the S4 wouldn’t love that bill whilst renovating a house 😂 speaking of which, a cheeky request please don’t be some of these landlords who don’t accept DSS ! As you’ll stop so many even those with disabilities renting from you ! We all get tied to the same brush as not paying etc etc but there are plenty In need of a Home with additional needs who are stopped because of this who will Pay
I bought a 240i that had been serviced at 4000 miles by an independent dealer, when I part exchanged it they could not sell it as an approved used car fortunately for me then didn’t find out until I picked up the new one.
I have an 18 month old S4 and just had the inspection and oil change. It cost me £507 from the Audi Dealer in Nottingham. I should have clearly shopped around.
First 6 minutes is the best commercial for getting an EV lol. I love badass cars but holy crap that's a lot for an oil change. Keep the awesome vids coming!
Go to JKM Performance in Portsmouth as they're an Audi/VW specialist. Great bunch and will really look after you and may even put the S4 on their rolling road for you if you mention me (I used to sell Snap-On then Mac Tools) You don't need to go to a Main Stealer as block exemption was brought in years ago and so long as you use OE parts for the servicing etc. then the warranty will be valid
Block exemption does mean that you will not only have to use OE parts, but you will need to adhere exactly to the manufacturer schedule. The best way to do that is to keep it at the dealer! (But supply your own oil for cost sake)
That is a bit exessive Pete That's why I use an Audi indipendant to service my RS7 PE & the wifes RS3 who does have access to Audi erWin so that the service can be logged with Audi. As an example I only paid £180.00 for a service & oil change ony my RS 7 PE ;-) All the Audi's we owned have always been serviced by my Audi Indipendant, this has never affected the re-sale value or any warranty claims on the following cars with Audi. RS6, 2 x RS3's 2x S3's I trust my Audi indipendant more than I trust any audi dealer!
How are the exhaust chrome plated tips looking on your S4? Seems like an ongoing issue with the plating peeling off the base material. Pitting, peeling and cracking is common place.
Hey Pete, I had the issue with the navigation loosing the Google Maps setting with my RS4 B9 as well. In an Audi Forum, I‘ve been told, that it‘s an known issue and there‘s a fix for it (Update 1329). I had the update a few month ago and the problem has not occured ever since. Ask your local dealership for it.
Well, I'm afraid that those pricea are to be expected with any of the big german brands. And going there to get the car serviced is like giving away money. The hourly rates are insane and the competence is usually sub par. In short, the brand and it's dealers are in it for as much of your money as possible. Switch to a well rated independent as soon as possible. Cheers and have fun during the snow season!!😍
You are right , £400 is way too much for little more than an oil change , i think Audi , BMW & Mercedes in particular get more profit from accessories , parts & servicing than they make selling the standard car when you consider that individual buyers can get 15% off most models , surely fleet & hire firms can get nearer 20% off & thats before the weak pound that must be costing hundreds of millions extra to import vehicles in such vast numbers , as a result depreciation will be high for some due to the used market being swamped with half a million German cars every year especially those that are over 3 years old & out of warranty , they may have to be reduced further if current supply & demand is anything to go by !. I would only buy these cars on finance & let them take the residual hit !.
@@aidanwilson6035 I get the urge for a new car. But acquiring one in whatever way you can think of, through financing or leasing... just does not make sense. If people would buy what they are actually able to afford and own within a few months, you'd see even more Golfs, Polos, Fiestas and co. To me the idea of borrowing money for years until you finally own a car that is now worth less, is highly unattractive. And that does not even take the horrific environmental effects into account that producing all these useless new cars are.
@@y4nnickschmitt Good point , if you are able , it makes much more sense to buy outright then depreciation is not such a big deal if you are keeping the car a long time of course , i don't think most owners realise how much they are paying in total , they just prioritise the monthly payments. Hard to believe that the majority of cars on the road are not owned by the driver but by the finance company until every penny is paid off !.
I’ve got the V6 petrol SQ5! The google maps always remain on regardless of the car being switched on and off! Might be worth speaking to the dealership when it’s next in👍
I was told it’s to do with the Audi Connect and every time the google maps update it defaults back to normal maps. Haven’t found a function to stop it updating and only do it when you request. Annoying thing I find is wanting virtual cockpit showing maps but what would you have on main screen at same time? Looks a bit daft having both screens showing the same thing? Like having 2 TV’s with the same program on in the lounge?
Hi Peter owning an S4 you have to take the highs with the lows but mate 400 quid for an OIL CHANGE Audi are taking the piss. Anyway happy Christmas to you and mrs pp. Regards Simon.
I am currently living in Switzerland, in Geneva, and driving KIA Rio with 1.25 naturally aspirated engine, on my first service which includes only changing the oil and oil filter they gave me offer of 400 chf in KIA official service. In France across the border 200 euros.
Hi Pete. Only just watched this video after being subscribed to your channel for only a couple of months, but have watched and enjoyed your Car-vid 19 series. I own a 5 year old Scuba blue A3 and am thinking it's time for a change. Love your S4, and the blue is very similar to mine. I sadly can't run to an S4, but am considering an A4 black edition as there seems to be a few around on Audi's official used pages. One of the things you've said was desirable was the sun roof. I agree, I had one on a Civic S Type I owned. Searching for a Navarra blue with sunroof I found two of the latest A4s, but they only the 150ps engine (I have that in my A3) so think it would be a little underpowered. The more powerful 190ps engine, again a few, but none with the sunroof! Would you agree the more powerful engine would be the better option? Thanks again for the videos and keep up the great work. 👍
Lovely car. I know it has been some time since this video was posted. So Audi do anything to prevent carbon build up on the intake valves as part of the prescribed maintenance schedule? I have been reading some forums and not seen Audi tackle this problem by means of any preventive maintenance. I have only read of owners tackling the problem themselves or using carbon cleaning specialists. Seems to be flaw with all these direct injected engines.
Wow seems very expensive! Back in October I had my old S4 B8.5 for a major service and s-tronic oil & filter for exactly the same price at £395 which was also at an Audi main dealer.
Love the two dogs!👍
rip off all day long this is why dealerships shoudl be avoided they have no shame
Shop around. You were ripped off. Phone around and you will make a saving. Bigger savings then go to an independent garage; use of genuine part won't invalid warranty.
Make a bigger saving and buy and EV next time around.
Another cracking vid,very informative 👍
My S5 has been serviced by an Audi garage. It’s now well out of warranty and developed a water leak...it’s a cab.Because I had it regularly serviced by them, they have a ‘goodwill’ system and they covered the full repair.Have it done by a non Audi garage and there is NO goodwill.So..spending the extra (ie £150 per service) at the main dealer meant ‘Audi goodwill’ covered the £2000 repair !!!
But that will have bigger impact of resale. Bad advice.
Petrol ped! The only person who packs his roof box like it’s a display cabinet. 😉 that’s class for you.
Probably the boxes were empty.
I have had 4 Audis with 3 litre engines, both diesel and petrol over 20 years and all the onboard computers have been at least 5% optimistic.
I have packed my '17 Clubman to just what you did. 3 times San Francisco to Seattle. 760 miles.
Last month got my 2020 Clubman JCW. First time in 40 years I have had 2 of the same make and model. Absolutely love it.
The new JCW is an awesome car 👌
Just watched this for about the 5th time... Love it! Just had my 2016 320d touring serviced at Sytner and cost £426 for a major service on 53k. Going to miss the daily vlogs
Thanks for the views 👍
Really enjoying these updates. I'm another subscriber who's bought a petrol S4 avant without driving one based solely upon yours and Sam Moores' videos. We regularly drive from West Sussex to Somerset with 2 kids (bikes, luggage etc.) and I take it for occasional blast around the countryside to clear the head! I'd find it difficult to consider many other cars which tick all the boxes as well as this car, particularly in the winter. Thanks again.
Wow, that is great to hear 👍
Hello Peter,
Thanks for another informative and interesting video.
Thanks Richard. I love driving in France for that very reason. Merry Christmas to you and our family too 🌲🌲🌲
My 2015 BMW 116d needed an oil change a few weeks ago.
Those are diy jobs and not so complicated.
Awesome cars 👌
It's an oil change AND inspection service. Just having an oil change will be less, but then going to an oil change every 12 months will cost you more, than staying with the long life service regime. Providing your own oil (VW group approved) will help lower that cost - there is a main dealer near Horsham who will accommodate that and also provides exceptional service.
Thanks for posting that. Have a great Christmas.
And the same to you 🌲🌲🌲
In my experience a service inspection, which includes an oil change and filter, will cost the sum of parts, and labour.
Good to know for next time 👍
Hi Ped
Enjoyed the run down to Cornwall with you, recognised the roads, cannot wait until next May when we go down again.
I will be at MM, I'm taking my eldest brother as he is a Jaguar racing nut and the are doing a tribute to TWR this year 👍
Oil service on my Panamera was £400, but that also included a few other bits n bobs. So 400 quid for an S4 sounds steep indeed.
Wow 😳
The B9 is even better than the B8. So much faster and sounds better too 👍
Hey Peter. Have an awesome Christmas and a very great new year. Love the channel and thank you for making great entertainment and informative films 👍😎
My pleasure Mark and the same to you 🌲
I have just just taken the fixed service plan package for my Q5. The cost is £468 which will cover the next 2 x oil servicing and this is with Audi which is a good deal.
That sounds like a good deal 👌
I used to spend every summer as a boy on relatives farms outside St Columb Major ,5 miles from Newquay and still miss Cornwall immensely.( when i was very young a D type jag came flying down the narrow road outside the farm ,the driver's elbows were working over time ).Love the petrol pups,,drop in and see us when you are ever in California
Cheers Richard...
Thanks for this Richard. I would love to get over to California again as the times I have been in the past I have really enjoyed 👍
I would love to get my hands on one of those 😜
@@PetrolPed If you ring Morgan or Krazy Horse at Bury St Edmunds I am sure they would be happy to assist!
I'd get pads done at an Audi specialist 👍
Just to add to Robert, I'd be a tad annoyed that a safety system(s) sensor "can be disabled " by the brake disk cutting the wires.
Personally, and fully IMO I'd be creating a MASSIVE stink about that at the service desk..
I wasn’t expecting to see this one thru to the end, but I was wrong. I started listening to the narration, while looking at the English countryside pass by, and was taken by how similar it is to Northern Piedmont Virginia, USA. Fascinating.
Hi Rick. That is great to hear. I'd love to see your part of the world one day 👍
"thru", you mean "frois"?
I agree £395 is taking the piss.
Get a brake down next time supply your own oil I better that cuts the bill in half total
Great video I really like your car....life doesn't get much better cruising in a nice car with mans best friends....love my dog too.....merry Christmas p.p
Thank you, and a Merry Christmas to you too 🌲
My R8 costs the same for an oil change at Audi!!! Sure you weren’t overcharged Pete?
We've noticed the same with the main dealers, over the last year they've hiked their service prices.
“£400 is a lot” says the guy with a second home in Cornwall 🤣
Heh, I just Googled "Car for sale £400, and newsnow came up with 336 results under £400!!! LoL! But I've also just spent well over that on an Xmas pressie for someone. Not me, I already bought mine! 😉
£400 is a bargain!
Doesn't matter if he has a house on the moon, £400 is a lot for an oil change/inspection
You never know, he might have been absolutely horrified at having to buy a second home in Cornwall.
numbereightyseven and what is the relevance between his xxxx properties and the cost of an oil change?
I've not had experience of Audi Peter but when I buy JLR I always negotiate a service package in with the deal for the car. 32mpg with that load is brilliant and I'd be chuffed myself with that. Thanks for a great years vids and have a great xmas. Taking the hybrid RR to Verbier in January so that should be interesting
Verbier in January sounds idyllic 👌
@@PetrolPed I have a little house there Peter. We always go after new year for 2 weeks.
I'll do that next time 👍
Happy Christmas to you too bud 🌲
Have a great Christmas and New Year!
I used to have a miniature schnauzer called ted, :)
Current Have an S3 sport back at the minute (java green) , hope your enjoying the car
Schnauzers are the best 👍
Another classic for a family with a dog. making my mind up to have a clubman jcw to replace my clubman S and keep the wifes jcw roadster as as classic. Just need to have a digital dash in the new clubman before purchasing
Try the JCW Clubby...it will sell itself 😜
Words of warning. Coming from a Cornish farming family some members have holiday cottages for rent. Last year one holiday family did £2000 of damage to one property and this year another group over £1000 damage. Kids jumping on beds. Also some locals are getting quite militant about second homes for rent. So make sure you have a local management group to oversee the property and minimise the risks.
Thanks for the heads up Roger. We have indeed got a local management company, have used local trades and Mrs PP is from Cornwall. We can see her first house from our new one 👍
@@PetrolPed Proper Job!
Morning pal. I am amazed how fast the year has gone. I remember you contacting us here in Lincolnshire about Hallie Pirelli. I do like this S4. I’d consider replacing our 5 series with one even. I’m impressed with that economy. I always enjoy ya vlogs.
It's more like 10 months but a year made a better video title 😂
I am waiting for my stupid non-Audi lease to run out before going back to Audi - but my current car (Ssangyong) don't have a service schedule per-se - they always say - every 10k miles and the service is always 350-400 .. annoying.
Hi Peter,
Another interesting video as usual.
Quite shocking to hear the cost of an oil change from Audi, but if you drive a big car, expect big bills! I say that as a small car owner! 🚘
Regarding your fuel consumption, I get quite upset if mine drops below 56mpg! 🤣🤣
As an aside, I topped up the fuel in my boat yesterday to bring it back up to full - £103 for 93 litres of red diesel. Quite happy to pay that, as I’d sooner have a boat with a 287hp straight six diesel (which is supercharged and turbocharged) than own a big car, but thats my choice. 🛥
So, to close, I’d like to wish you and Mrs PP (and the hounds) and all the Pedlars out in UA-cam-land all the very best for Christmas and the New Year.
To coin a phrase, “drive safe” (if you have to drive at all).
👍🏻 from the Wirral.
Thanks Darren. I hope and your family have a lovely Christmas too 🌲
I ran audi s for 20 years and got so fed up with the cost.dont have them know.
I have had someone comment that it is a software issue that an update can fix. Have a chat with your dealer 👍
Pete the Audi service plan is great value for money. £20pm gets you an 18m plan with 2 services; one of which is a major. You save £100’s. Available up to 100,000 miles. Check it out - we run 3 Audi’s this way.
Thanks for the info 👍
Hi Pete just want to wish yourself and all of your family, friends and fellow UA-camrs an awesome Christmas and healthy and prosperous New Year. Thanks for all your great reviews this year. I'm looking forward to 2020s content already
I expect Ernie will be seeing more and more Evs next year lol.
Hope Santa 🎅 brings you all you desire I told him you've been a good boy this year so 🤞.
All the best Pete 👍🏁
Happy Christmas to you too Ralph 🌲
Paid £316 at BMW for an identical service on my M2.
Note: Lost £800 at trade in on a company Audi we had (wherever we took it), by having taken it out of dealer network servicing JUST ONCE. As soon as they saw service history - wallop!
Didn't save that at the independent garage.
Wow...very interesting 👍
Great work👍 you have a skill of making all your videos interesting even if it's just driving to Cornwall 😝😝
LOL...thank you 🙏
Currently at the hospital with my 3 month old son watching this waiting on test results. Great video
Hope all goes well my friend. Thought are with you 🙏
Petrol Ped things are still rough for my little boy we’re looking at a couple day stay at the hospital. Hopefully home before Christmas.
Very interesting to hear (read). Thank you for sharing that about the Merc
Happy Christmas to you and Mrs PP.
And the same to you 🌲
Yeah that seems well over the top, here for oil changes I take my own oil in because you can obviously buy it considerably cheaper than dealers charge but I’m not sure all dealers would wear that, I do buy the same oil they’re using though.
Great idea 👍
WOW 😮
As a telecoms trainer I should have probably thought about that 😂
Deposit placed this afternoon for my 2017 S4 avant...... look what you’ve done !!! 😂
Awesome...you will love it 👍
Hehe, you covered a lot of my homeward, after visiting family in the South East, journey in this vid.
That's the one 👍
Glad to see that you've got the Doom Bar in prime position so it will be the first thing to be unloaded and ready for action 🤣🍺🤣
Oh yes 👍
Hi Ped, it's funny but both the things you wish the car had are things that I wouldn't want, also you could have the Cooper JCW if you just brought your food & drink from local Cornish shops (putting money back into the local community) so you wouldn't require the extra space in the car when travelling down.
If you consider the effort in changing the oil that is a truly extortionate price and I suspect that it was all completed in well under an hour too. Thanks for the video
Thanks Dean 👍
Always always supply your own oil it will save you a fortune!
I always use an Audi/VW specialist, the law changed your warranty is not invalid if you chose not to use a main dealer. My last service £250 S4 Avant
Yep but I still think lots of people will want a main dealer service history 😬
You mentioned mevigessy !
I love it there, are you renting the holiday home to friends and family only ? If it’s the general public too I’ll be interested as we visit every year, me the Mrs and the two kids. Let me know 👍🏻
Yes, it will be rented out in the New Year. I'll be doing a video walk around once it is done and will give details then. It is going to be very special 👌
Petrol Ped look forward to it 👍🏻
Love my Audi’s I’ve had a few now, just changed my SQ5..
That dash is looking very (very) dated.. I really don’t like how (not just them) they stick the infotainment screen on the dash, it looks like it’s just blue tacked on😞😞
Though they save money on all those retraction motors 😉😉
£400 for an oil change is rip off. Our X5 first oil change which BMW say needs a replacement pollen filter at wait for it over £100! But you get a “free inspection “ total bill over £600😳 absolutely ridiculous.
Merry Christmas to you and petrol pups.
Merry Christmas to you too 🌲
These video's are so helpful thank you
Glad you like them!
Wow. My car is out of warranty so there's a saving but £400!
I now use oil that costs £90 for 5 ish litres supply my own (oversize) Mann filter, cost from local indy £45.
oil change every 2 years. Every 2 years.
vorsprung dur technic my ARSE!
LOL 😂
Hi Pete, at the price you paid for your service, they should have included a few shares of stock from the oil rig it came from! Whew. Good to see the "pup" and "pooch" as always. They behave magnificently for your trips. I enjoy these "family" type vids' as much as the others. Have a pint and please give the girls a scratch or two as usual. Have a great day mate. Cheers from Michigan in the USA.
They are both very good in the car and I've just given them a scratch from their friend in Michigan 😜
Go Audi Specialists, it's the way to go. Main showrooms love to hike their prices because they know you'll pay
I don’t trust trip computer for consumption. My car does at least 2mpg better than the trip reads. I have created spreadsheets showing individual tank, yearly & lease term (3 years) cost and consumption. Great video as always. Have a great Christmas & New year.
Andrew Gibbs a spreadsheet for fuel economy? Really? You must be fun at parties.
I've not got the time to do that 😜😂
I was looking for a fuel economy iOS app for my S4 TDI. Most seem to be US focused. Anyone recommend a good European focussed app?
MrTinkx
It is software I created myself.
Wow 😮
First 6 minutes is the best commercial for getting an EV lol. I love badass cars but holy crap that's a lot for an oil change. Keep the awesome vids coming!
Thanks Justin 👍
Cant beat the practicality of an estate!
Indeed 👍
Go to JKM Performance in Portsmouth as they're an Audi/VW specialist. Great bunch and will really look after you and may even put the S4 on their rolling road for you if you mention me (I used to sell Snap-On then Mac Tools)
You don't need to go to a Main Stealer as block exemption was brought in years ago and so long as you use OE parts for the servicing etc. then the warranty will be valid
I'll check them out 👍
Block exemption does mean that you will not only have to use OE parts, but you will need to adhere exactly to the manufacturer schedule. The best way to do that is to keep it at the dealer! (But supply your own oil for cost sake)
Great vid again and omg them dogs are so cute.my Mickey says woof woof 🤗🤗😂
Thank you. My girls say woof woof back 😂
PP, nice video...looking at getting an S4 myself (probably the petrol version). Can I ask....how many miles do you get out of a full tank? Thanks
350-375 👍
That is a bit exessive Pete That's why I use an Audi indipendant to service my RS7 PE & the wifes RS3 who does have access to Audi erWin so that the service can be logged with Audi. As an example I only paid £180.00 for a service & oil change ony my RS 7 PE ;-) All the Audi's we owned have always been serviced by my Audi Indipendant, this has never affected the re-sale value or any warranty claims on the following cars with Audi. RS6, 2 x RS3's 2x S3's I trust my Audi indipendant more than I trust any audi dealer!
I'll check mine out 👍
How are the exhaust chrome plated tips looking on your S4? Seems like an ongoing issue with the plating peeling off the base material. Pitting, peeling and cracking is common place.
They were chrome once...now black and manky 😮😂
Hey Pete, I had the issue with the navigation loosing the Google Maps setting with my RS4 B9 as well. In an Audi Forum, I‘ve been told, that it‘s an known issue and there‘s a fix for it (Update 1329). I had the update a few month ago and the problem has not occured ever since. Ask your local dealership for it.
Thanks for this. I'll get on to Audi. The joys of UA-cam...put a problem out there and someone is bound to have had it too 👍🙏
Well, I'm afraid that those pricea are to be expected with any of the big german brands.
And going there to get the car serviced is like giving away money. The hourly rates are insane and the competence is usually sub par.
In short, the brand and it's dealers are in it for as much of your money as possible.
Switch to a well rated independent as soon as possible.
Cheers and have fun during the snow season!!😍
Absolutely. Can't beat these guys and for location www.jkm.org.uk/performance/service.htm?LMCL=lyG5WB
I will 😜
@@y4nnickschmitt Good point , if you are able , it makes much more sense to buy outright then depreciation is not such a big deal if you are keeping the car a long time of course , i don't think most owners realise how much they are paying in total , they just prioritise the monthly payments. Hard to believe that the majority of cars on the road are not owned by the driver but by the finance company until every penny is paid off !.
Pollon filter is also replaced in the inspection service
I’ve got the V6 petrol SQ5! The google maps always remain on regardless of the car being switched on and off! Might be worth speaking to the dealership when it’s next in👍
I think I will 👍
Petrol Ped oh, forgot to say we’re about to pick up a new f40 M135i from Vines in Crawley! Your review had a lot to do with that😂👍
I was told it’s to do with the Audi Connect and every time the google maps update it defaults back to normal maps.
Cheers Simon 👍
Run a couple of straps around the roofbox for safety and you don't have to worry about it opening on the motorway
Good shout 👍
I am currently living in Switzerland, in Geneva, and driving KIA Rio with 1.25 naturally aspirated engine, on my first service which includes only changing the oil and oil filter they gave me offer of 400 chf in KIA official service. In France across the border 200 euros.
Wow 😳
If it within your budget it think it would give you a more dynamic drive 👍
Damn thats what you call a fully loaded car!.
Also, oh the irony of taking Doom Bar to Cornwall, cos it's hard to get down there!!!
Just playing is safe 😂
On the back of these vids - I pick mine up at the weekend!
Awesome 👏
Very enjoyable and informative. The oil change and inspection cost at £400 is outrageous.
Cheers David 👍
Wow seems very expensive! Back in October I had my old S4 B8.5 for a major service and s-tronic oil & filter for exactly the same price at £395 which was also at an Audi main dealer.
That because it was 😂
