Apparently they changed a lot of stuff in the game -- for one, Stark's Machine WAS an optional enemy midway through the first stage, and wasn't the boss -- Primeval was the boss. The original arcade game wasn't very long to begin with (but still very tough), so I'm guessing they fleshed it out for the benefit of home players. Music's good -- as I found out, the same three composers who would write the score for "Shinobi III" arranged Toki's original arcade music for the Genesis version.
I was a little child when i played this game and i was afraid of everything back then, just reach the level 4 and died hahaha but such good memories anyway :) Now i want to play it again!!
I still have this game in my sega collection, but it's been a long time since I last time played this... One of my favorite sega games! =) Brings back some memories!!
I beat this one sometime in 1992 on a rental. I first played the arcade version in 1990 at Cedar Point and didn't realize this was the same game until I started the first level. It was a nice surprise at the time.
This game used to terrify me when I was a kid. Also, why is it that so many old Genesis game bosses were freakin' creepy as hell? Wiz'n Liz and Dynamite Headdy come to mind...
I first saw this version of the game but when I finally tried the Arcade (I assume the original version) I realized how much superior that was in comparision to this. In the arcade graphics are better, whenever you kill enemies it looks more detailed, you fight each boss on different places rather than that boring and simple grey room and every stage has just one part rather than having three parts everytime.
i just played it for the first time since 12 years of so :D and got to the endboss, butt he is so badass, no chance for me.... youre right, great game, great music!
okay eather i missed something or the story line is a tad...not there really can some1 explain to me a few things and depending i'll give you a story on what i see basicly.
Is there anyone who can help me? I've ben looking for a genesis/md game that I used to have, but the problem is I've forgotten the title. The game is about a guy (he wears a straw hat, btw) who's gotten cursed and anyone that's around the guy attacks him. He uses a frisbee (or something like it) to defend himself. Anyone who can help me?
Harley Keen I actually have the NES game, and it's an exact copy of the arcade game. The only difference is that the NES version only gives you 3 credits (plus the one you start with), while the arcade game allows you to continue as much as you want until the final stage where you're limited to 5 continues. Another difference between the NES and Arcade version is that Toki is a one hit kill character in the arcade game while the NES version gives him hearts as hit points. One other thing is that during the water stages, Toki doesn't have his goggles when he's in the water in the NES version while the arcade has him wearing the goggles (which resemble a diving mask without the nose portion).
I see, well i know the NES version pretty well myself as i played it years ago, but i recently saw the arcade version, and it has different graphics at least. Characters are larger and more detailed. As for other things - i'm not that familiar with arcade version, but i think i did notice a few other differences in the obstacles at least on the first stage.
my mom used to play this b%llshit when i was like 6 years old and when i saw bashtar i burst into tears
i love sega genesis
1:21 Tony Stark built this. It's Stark's Machine afterall.
Can't believe Mr Bruh stole Toki's girl

At least these type of adversaries didn't even scare me at all when i was a baby
Nov 26, 2018 came back here after a long time to reminisce because this game got remade for the switch. It has yet to release in North america(Dec 6)

The Genesis version makes this game scary, Arcade one might looks better but it's way too cute compared to this, same with the music
@@DarknessIsThePath definitely. I looked at the remake and thought wow thr Sega one was darker
i think this version has the best opening
I dunno but when I see "Stark" on the boss names' the only thing that pops to min mind is Tony Stark.
Same
Probably the hardest game I've ever played.
Stark?
So it seems that Iron Man is now "exploring" weirder stuff .
Greendog : The beached surfer dude?
Submarine boss looking cool
i just played it for the first time since 12 years of so :D and got to the endboss, butt he is so badass, no chance for me.... youre right, great game, great music!
Ape Spit huh, I see what they did there lmaooo
dude!! a toki boss rush!!! awesome!! i've always loved toki! weird game!!! nice job on the boss rush!!
I could never get through this game when I was little, now I'll have to try it out now!
This game is my childhood.
@mranonym4 It's "Games you might don't Know- TOKI"
Pity that version was not faithful to the arcade but it is very playable as well.
I beat the Amiga 500 version when I was 6.
Still hard to believe for me.
The Boss music in the genesis version is alot better than the Amiga.
okay eather i missed something or the story line is a tad...not there really can some1 explain to me a few things and depending i'll give you a story on what i see basicly.
Best game !
sounds like micheal jackson moonwalker or decap attack
Aaaah Toki ! I know a hilarious video about this game xD

0:31 Ah reminded me of Sigma's transition from megaman x 2 XD

lol yeah the one from benzaie xD That was hilarious indeed :D
Looks a bit like the Congo's Caper intro
Is this the whole game? or is this just the bosses? It is so different from the Amiga version...
just bosses. the genisis version was probably the most changed verision
who know the name of menu song?
@JesusIsMyHomie777 Green Dog the beached surfer dude
Stark.
what a great game
I like the NES version better, but this one is pretty grotesque too
Harley Keen The NES version is a direct port of the Arcade while this adaptation was more of a puzzle-platform game.
figment1988 Arcade version looks different than this or NES one. Have you seen it even?

Fucking Hell, that color palette is atrocious.
Not the worst, but still quite a horrible version.
