Every Monday I come running with my fingers to click on this video as fast as I can. I’m still waiting on the day that I see that my fish tank has been reviewed. When that date comes, I have officially lived. Favorite shoes. CROCS!
4:10 It's cool how PetSmart-type places can change, not from the top-down, but from the bottom up because of the young employees that work there and demand change. Keep up the good work PetSmart kids 💖🐟
I just got a car, largely inspired by needing to buy fish for my tanks from Amazon. Now I'm driving the hour to Ottawa and getting to know our capital a bit as I visit the 7 PetSmart locations and 2 other fish stores. Some are from different eras, some are so identical I thought I was at the same one again. And I just found a bunch of interesting little guys at Big Al's that PetSmart doesn't have. Hillstream, Honeys, rabbit snails! Green Neons, dwarf cories, Purple Harlequins! Awesome staff at all. Fishkeeping is helping me come out of years of depression and despair and feel like myself again.
13:30 the best time to take fish videos or pics is at night i just turn off the lights and sit on a stool in front of the tank for 30 minutes and the main part to get good pics is that u have to move with the fish to get good pics
If you can, increase your shutter speed so that the fish don't come out blurry. There are apps that allow you to adjust camera settings more thoroughly on your phone.
Hey Chris! I'm a long time watcher and have a scaped tank myself. My dog has recently lost his vision and one of the things that was recommended to us to help him adjust was for us to play media for him when we aren't around. He seems to prefer FTR for the music and your voice. Since he's started listening to your channel he has been far more relaxed and happy. Thank you for helping our boy, Donny Donnowitz, feel like himself again.
That sign should definitely be mandatory for any place that sells fish edit: That 3 gallon is mindblowing! Doesn’t look like a 3 gallon and doesn’t look like it feels like one either, and lots of plants and floaters too, stocked with little guppies That 47 is just a *background* poster in terms of imagery! 😮 edit 2: Eesh… people say 55 for one oscar and 125 for a pair but *this*. This shows the truth And for the goldfish, *that’s* how you do it if you want a beautiful display tank for your hotel or restaurant or whatever Beautiful, natural, thriving, (doesn’t hurt to look at)
Hey Chris! Your everlasting love for corydoras inspired me to pick up a school of Pygmy Cory’s. They’ve only been in their new tank for a few hours and I’m already obsessed 😂 thanks for the recommendation!
12:04 I actually got my Jetta at pet co the women who helped us told us river the five gallon tank with a pump a heater a light and she told us to get plants get sand showed us whifh foods we should get and told us how the cycle goes how I should wait at least three days to put my betta in the tank after doing all the stuff she was very helpful, thanks Briana
One time I was at petco getting some stuff cuz I was redoing my leopard geckos tank and someone was buying a spider and the worker seemed very knowledgeable and that made me happy
I worked at Petco and was actually yelled at for telling a customer that I recommend at least a 5 gallon tank for a Betta instead of the .5 gallon bowl they had because "some people don't want to spend that much" then don't get a fish or a pet for that matter. They ended up getting a 10 gallon starter kit so still don't understand wtf
Love these shoes, they´re too cool!! I´ve had a pair of those ages ago! Now one of my BJD´s wears replicas of black Doc Martens because he´s customised as the 12th Doctor from Doctor Who.
1:51 "Who told you?" - like salvinia is some government kept secret 🤣 tbh my favourite floater, although I've only kept salvinia (forgot which one specifically), red root floaters (extremely sensitive IME), and the glitter of the aquarium hobby - duckweed.
My only issue with the new Betta home is it’s proximity to the stove. Those beautiful floaters will be covered in grease quick and aquarium glass isn’t going tp handle any huge heat fluxuations.
Happy Monday!! Thanks for the reminder about floaters, I over-culled my water lettuce last summer and now I just have one teeeeeeeny piece. I keep waiting for it to grow and make a baby, but I think it's feeling too much pressure. Favorite shoes are my Hoka Compton 9 running shoes because they take me on ADVENTURES!
in 13:32 you say Movement means food, you can chance that, i tap on the glass only when I feed, this way they chill, when i watch them. sorry for bad english
12:50 good sir, those are not glofish, those are painted glassfish QoTW: I don't remember the last time I wore shoes, I usually wear slippers (this might go by a different name depending on where you're from) or just barefoot when I go in the yard to touch grass. I have a pair of gray sneaks, some offbrand pair I got from lord knows where, maybe Ross, so I guess they would be my favorite lol
I have a friend who has a long finned betta in a fish bowl I noticed her fish had dropsy and told her. It was pretty obvious she didn’t care too much but after I sent her a few of your vids and I hope if she gets another fish she changes her ways. Thanks
Our petsmart has tags for all their fish telling you how big they get along with some other basics. I was very happy to see that the smallest tanks they had were like 1 gal, and up to 5 gal they all have pictures of one betta on them. Some even had light flow filters. Maybe they're a mess still, but it at least looks like they're kinda trying.
My son received a Betta in a cup from PetSmart, as a gift from someone who thought it was a great idea. And yes we're (mostly me) fish keepers. And we love Bettas. However we where looking to go in a different direction of species. But we knew we had one aquarium that would be a great home for this guy. It is a 31.5 gallon. That has a Buddha theme with ohko stone and of course, lots of plants, wood and thick substrate. Which is a aqua soil capped with soft sand. We think we is ok with this home we have made for him. He looks good and happy.
Qotw: fav shoes are my Doc Marten Chelsea boots. Real leather, so they’re water proof. I got the no slip tread, so great in bad weather. Just took a winter trip to Northern Japan and they kept me nice and toasty in the snow, and I live in Louisiana and so far no swamp feet. Also, they look great. Y’all, get yourself a good pair of leather boots. If you keep them maintained they will last forever.
My favorite pair of shoes is a tough one. Cold weather is my Muck boots. Had them 6 years and still as warm and comfy as when I got them. Warm weather is flip flops or barefoot. Momma's feet need to breathe after being crammed into boots during the cold season lol.
I forgot about that Keanu Reeves moment, so adorable. QOTW Not a shoe person but my Reebok Classic Legacy sneakers are my favorite, very cool colors. I don’t remember the official color name but they are various shades of teal/light blue with orange laces and accents. Very comfy, too.
My Ariats. Really comfortable and durable. My current betta is really easy to take pics of- he sees the phone aimed at him and poses. I swear he's the reincarnation of a model lol. He looked rough when he came home though, he'd absolutely shredded his tail in the store. He's a stunning little guy now and has earned the right to pose.
Only recently discovered this channel, but I'm really enjoying the content. Keep up the great work! Shoes: New Balance; I need a wider size, and they're one of the few brands that actually have wider sole molds rather than just adding extra material to the stock mold and calling it wide.
Dunlop volley steel caps. 🇦🇺 steel caps in a tennis shoe. Sole lasts forever too. Really good if you have to do a lot of driving but go to sites where you have to have steel caps. 😊 luv ya work.
Floaters are great but sometimes I go with pothos or other plants growing out of the top for a cleaner look with less clumpy roots and equally effective. Depends on the esthetic I'm going for and whether or not it's a breeding tank. Floaters are a must for fry.
Our local petco is pretty good too. They have size charts with tank requirements for the fish posted. Right to refuse sale posted and other signs .one example "pea puffers need other peas. Must be adopted in groups"
I have a question about corys that google cant ansewer the bottom fins and the bottom of my corys have white bumbs that cover the edges of them what is is? Should i be concerned? How do i treat?
I'm genuinely so jealous of that petsmarts sign I worked at my local petsmart and it's ok, the petcare folks and managers try their best to make sure people know what they're getting into when buying fish but man oh man I'd love if they could put up a sign like this dfhsf
I was the one who made the sign in the video! I'm so excited that a customer posted it on Reddit and that Chris found it 😭 Pet care just has to ask their GM if they can make a sign. I currently have a poll going for my dept to decide the next fishy facts theme
My favorite pair of shoes is this Nike pair i've worn since i was ten lol. Anytime they get too beat up to wear I just buy the same pair. I haven't ever worn another
That's why I love shrimp. They don't care about me being in front of the tank. They do their thing and I can just take videos or snap pictures of them being silly. :D
Imagine having cool infographics like that in every pet store. I would go in just to read it and admire the art! Heck, they can even MONETIZE it with art collabs, merch, POSTERS. :D
Aw hell yeah happy Monday lads Also I’m starting up a 30 gallon tank, been cycling for a few days and I’m starting to see some nitrites and nitrates! Super excited
my betta sadly passed away a few weeks after almost 3 years in my care and when i thought things could'nt get worse my oldest fish, a common goldfish named steve, passed away after 11 full straight years (had him as a fry he was a rescue fish) i started to repurpose the betta tank (a 21 gallons) for a pair of dwarf gouramis but now i'llo have to also repurpose my goldfish tank :/
You guys, I'm a science teacher. Inherited the classroom fish tank, 65 gallon long. Knew nothing. Went to my local pet store, guess what they told me? Guess? "Oh, everything in this row are non-aggressive school fish, you can get any combination". He then helped me pick out 6 goldfish (regular "feeder" goldfish, 6 Platies, and 6 rainbow fish. Four months later I'm on Zoom with my dad, he sees my fishtank in the living (brought the fishtank home), he starts laughing so hard. Then he tells me the gold fish are going to get huge...eat all the other fish, and live forever. Great. Just great. (the goldfish are now as big across as my palm and so are the Platies)
my favorite shoes are my lems cause barefoot shoes make my feet hurt less, but a close second are my tuks witch are the exact opposite at a 3 inch platform
I bought my first fish tank because i thought fish would be an eazy pet. I got 20 gallons and came home to try to watch some videos. It's been 6 months. I have only one betta
I would love to get goldfish and/or plecos someday but I simply do not have the space for fish that grow that big at this point in my life. Not gonna try and keep them in a 10 gal lol
QOTW: sneakers for the gym, driving the stickshift Subaru...Muck Boots for Tiny Farm Problems except for summer when I can wear ...river sandals in the kayak... Does a mermaid tail count as shoes????
So now that I know what hydra look like, I guess I need to figure out how to get rid of them. I've been noticing tiny, threadlike green things on the glass of one of my betta tanks, and wondering about them. I looked them up, and it says they can get in on plants or other decor, or even just with dust in the house. I suspect the last, because it's an open tank, and I haven't put any new plants or hardscape in there recently. I had no idea they could be so tiny, but I looked very closely and sure enough, that's what they are, alright. Crap. QOTW: I'm totally obsessed with sneakers and boots. I don't think I can pick just one favorite pair, though. I might be able to list my 10 favorites, but even that would be pushing it! Fishkeeping is one obsession. Fashion is the other. Oh. And cats.
As a pet store employee, i cry inside everytime i hear a new employee tell a customer the wrong thing because i know it will be near impossible to convince them what the first person said is wrong. On the flip side I love when random customers eavesdrops on a conversation im having with a customer about why 3 neon tetras a guppy 2 mollies a dwarf gourami and a pleco would be a very bad choice for a 2.5 gallon tank that shows pictures of all of those fish on it and pokes in to back me up
I feel like decor should be more important than fun, though it is fun I've seen people get multiple fish species, and have one hiding spot that the dominant one controls. Also, that 3 gal long is awesome, I love long tanks
I wear cowboy boots all day everyday lol it keeps it easy to get ready cause it always goes with my bluejeans and i dont have to think about what to wear on my lower half just have to figure out my shirt
Oh! So my husband and I have a pokemon & Trading card shop (His hobby) I saw this as a perfect opportunity to get another tank. I want to have a large, planted, water pokemon themed tank with two fan tail goldfish that hopefully look close enough like goldeen and seaking. (I have seen goldfish change color with age so close enough works) I love the idea of a full forest of plants on the top of the tank like the tank that was shown at 9:25. What would be the suggestions for plants? Nerd out if you can to make suggestions that remind you of the pokemon show. Also I kind of want to make this a learning opportunity as well because we have tones of kids that come to our store. So if they see a beautifully planted tank, themed to look like two pokemon they will want to do the same.
@@FishForThought Thank you. It was the only way I could get another tank without my husband giving me the "Not another one" look lol. But I am having fun with the idea. I have been studying up on what crystals are safe in tanks. I found one that is safe to use and will look just like a water stone.
My Oscar is in a 90 with a feather fin catfish they share the space well but I’ve been saving up to upgrade them to a 1000-2000 gallon L tank have always felt bad for my Oscar being in these large tanks he’s went from a 5gal when he was an injured baby to a 55 to a 75 to finally a 90 with his tank mate next will be the big upgrade
Happy FTR day everyone!! Let's recharge our FFT batteries and take Chris's anti-fish abuse philosophy out into the world! 🙏💙✌️ Edit; Chris bringing in the Naruto sadness and sorrow track when talking about how difficult shipping those super long narrow tanks is. 👏👏👏
Never kept my predatory fish in bare tanks.. always planted and decored. Black aro's, peacock bass's, stingrays etc :) Harder work, but testing testing testing untill you find plants you don't give a flying pig for :P
Hydra will also take down shrimp. I've seen it with my full grown neocaradina. They ended up swimming all over the tank, twitching. And intermittently will fall and just lay, paralyzed... then repeat... until the hydra finishes them off.

I used to have a gold fish named biggey I had that mf for 9 years

On the flip side I love when random customers eavesdrops on a conversation im having with a customer about why 3 neon tetras a guppy 2 mollies a dwarf gourami and a pleco would be a very bad choice for a 2.5 gallon tank that shows pictures of all of those fish on it and pokes in to back me up
House shoes of course.😊
I feel like decor should be more important than fun, though it is fun I've seen people get multiple fish species, and have one hiding spot that the dominant one controls. Also, that 3 gal long is awesome, I love long tanks
Ditto on the long tanks!
My paddock riding boots are my favorite shoes
I wear cowboy boots all day everyday lol it keeps it easy to get ready cause it always goes with my bluejeans and i dont have to think about what to wear on my lower half just have to figure out my shirt
QOTW answer would have to be any demonias with the "stack" platform. I'm 5'2 so they make me 5'9 and it's fantastic 😂
Noiceee
That Oscar is stunning, but still needs a bigger tank.
😂
3:02 what's that plant in the back right corner?
Frogbit does remind me a bit of Carnivine when its roots start growing long, though I'm not sure if the goldfish will try to eat it or not.
@@Ariento I forgot all about that Pokémon! That’s a great suggestion.
Cool concept!
Edit; Chris bringing in the Naruto sadness and sorrow track when talking about how difficult shipping those super long narrow tanks is. 👏👏👏
Naruto got the best sound track haha
My Monday is made!
big fan of the air force walmarts
HELLO A THIRD TIME, CHRIS!! :D
Never kept my predatory fish in bare tanks.. always planted and decored. Black aro's, peacock bass's, stingrays etc :) Harder work, but testing testing testing untill you find plants you don't give a flying pig for :P
I love my steph curry shoes omg they're amazing
Hydra will also take down shrimp. I've seen it with my full grown neocaradina. They ended up swimming all over the tank, twitching. And intermittently will fall and just lay, paralyzed... then repeat... until the hydra finishes them off.
I had a petco employee refuse to sell me White cloud minnows for my 10gl because my water was too cold, I have it at 70, she wanted 80.........
Love your videos, you even inspired me to start my own channel :)
AWESOME
Midnight blue soft leather Doctor Martens 😁👍
Qotw: my pair of well- worn, “bluntstone” leather boots. Comfortable, and they look good with my usual jeans/flannel attire
the common pointed mud snail actually eats hydra so you don´t have to worry about them at all
Spent $30 on floaters from Amazon....no one told me goldfish AND platies eat them. They are gone. Gone.
