At around 800 lbs I had one foot in the grave. I jumped into strict carnivore 2 years 2 months ago and down 500 lbs. I failed keto because there were too many options for me. Carnivore gave me that food freedom, the “off switch” I never had. I was in such a bad place pre carnivore so started seeing benefits immediately. That’s my experience anyway :)

Similar here! 2 years carnivore, and just got my foot through the strict carnivore door a month ago and loving it! Are eggs allowed on the lion diet? If it's not, that's the only thing between me and the lion diet right now. Just meat, eggs, sea salt, and water. And if it is, then I'm lion now. However, I found that I must drink homemade electrolyte water to accomplish this. The surprising discovery I made a month ago and how I finally arrived to strict.

I dove right in to carnivore 6 mos ago from straight up, whole-food plant based vegan.... no soda or major sugar addictions, etc... hit the electrolytes hard the first week and despite one day of loose stools I made it through without any other issues. I don't have major health problems and I don’t have much weight to lose. Different for everyone, I suppose . However you need to get started, just do that; ease in or dive. You know yourself better than anyone. But don't talk yourself out of trying!

Hi Dante, ya.. idk if I agree with this guy. But what do I know! Anyway, I commented on your documentary over a month ago, and said I was going to start the diet on March 1st. Well, I didn't...I didn't want to wait. I started on 2/14/24 Valentines day, now tomorrow is day 30 for me. I jumped right into it! I have so many things to say about it.... in 2 days I could already feel changes as far as aches and pains are concerned. when I commented, I said I was 215lbs. Then I actually weighed myself and was 201.6 lbs. to start with. Anyway, this has been amazing for me...I am 54 years old and feel so much better in 30 days...knee pain is going away, multiple body aches going away....I feel like a new man already! Thank you sir for the motivation!

Dr Bart Kay is a physiology expert and nutritional scientist so he knows what he's talking about right down to the cellular level, he is a wealth of knowledge, you need to watch more before you judge this man because he is very straight to the facts, you also need to understand that there are a multitude of reasons to why somebody "craches" depending on what underlying conditions they may have, so without knowing those the best thing to do is to give generalized answers to generalized questions because jumping to a solution without knowing the facts about a specific persons conditions can be directly or indirectly harmful to someone else with different conditions. There are a lot of carnivore UA-cam channels recommending their own anecdotal solutions and while it's a good thing that they want to help people to get healthy again it's also a huge problem because people don't generally do their do diligence and jump straight in and try the first thing they hear and then later give up because of it and think it doesn't work when in fact it can if they get the right information for their specific needs, this is especially important for those with more severe medical conditions which is something way too many channels don't think about when they hand out anecdotal solutions like candy without knowing the facts of their audience, most don't even mention what kind of audience they are targeting and that's really bad when talking about health, it's one thing wanting to avoid medical problems or heal minor ones but it's a whole different ballgame trying to cure or heal a medical illness, that's why all this is important to know and think about when doing content about health, and too many don't,

I was in terrible health when I started Carnivore coming from a vegan/fruitarian diet for many years. I was eating all organic foods, mostly raw and I was always bloated and had pain all over my body all the time. I took about 2 1/2 wks to transition but I don’t think it was enough, even though I had cut out most carbs even before that. Intuitively I’ve realized I need to add back in a tiny bit of fruit and maybe lettuce just to trick my system until it settles down. Not happy about that but 10 yrs as mostly vegan will mess the body up. It’ll take time to get back to normal. Love carnivore lifestyle and appreciate your channel. Thanks 🙏🏼

    @mattunwin 2 місяці тому +10

A few points of context to help you understand exactly what Bart is talking about here. This clip seems to be missing a very clear statement that would help you understand what Bart means here.
#1 He's talking about gut/microbiome issues that can show up after suddenly changing your diet over night. These issues don't happen right away, sometimes they can take months before they show up. The issue is the microbiome eats our food and the type of bacteria in our microbiome can get sick, angry, and cause ALL kinds of issues with our bodies if our microbiome goes to war. This includes low energy, bowl issues, pain all over the body. The gut is FULL of nerves, neurons, and basically your entire body can have issues if your gut goes bad.
How does it go bad? Simple, the bacteria start fighting for resources (the new diet), which can include them fighting each other, eating your gut walls, under digesting food, over digesting food, excreting toxins, all manner terrible things happen depending on the kind of microbes we are talking about.
This can be avoided, if you don't change your diet overnight. You give your microbiome time to adjust to the new diet and for the bacteria that was living off plants, fiber, sugar, etc.... to slowly down regulate, die, or go to sleep. Changing your diet overnight can be really bad.
This is true for ANY diet change, and what he is saying is ANY major change in diet should never happen overnight. Some people can get away with it, but for those that cannot, the negative effects can be a disaster. Some people just have runny stools for a week and then it's over... others 6 months in start to have major issues, all of which can be avoided with a transition.
It's much safer to take 6 weeks to allow your microbiome to adjust to the food changes so that you don't end up with bacteria fighting or digging into your gut walls.
Taking this seriously is important because MOST people who cite that carnivore didn't work for them, changed overnight! We can avoid people thinking "carnivore doesn't work because it made me feel worse" by simply giving them this advice to change slowly. I get that people want to just rib the Band-Aid off and start tomorrow... but that's exactly what people shouldn't do and we should help people do this right if they want consistent good results from a diet change.
#2 Oxalates can take YEARS to leave your system. So I just want to clarify that he's NOT talking about oxalates here, and in fact 6 weeks would not be enough for any person to detox from Oxalates, this is a completely different issue from what Bart is talking about.

I agree 100% Not everyone consumes the amount of toxic foods that cause problems like this, before starting carnivore. If they are eating relatively cleanly, no sugar and lower carb, they may not have issues. But if you go from a toxic level SAD diet straight into carnivore, you may have some serious issues. Our starting points are so very different. I like hearing all opinions so that I can take what applies to my situation. Much love and support to everyone is needed.

I'm on keto - carnivore now for almost one year and will never change, but for slowly reaching the goal to get 100% on lion diet
On keto - carnivore i am because i really suffer from oxalate issues, but it's getting better and better
I also reintroduced milk products for that reason, because the amount of calcium they contain is binding the oxalates and so this complex can safely leave my body
What really helps me a lot since the transition is to drink almost 2 l a day a water which contains naturally solved magnesium (102mg/l) to have the perfect stool. Adding magnesium as a salt didn't help me drinking enough, but for that magnesium rich natural water i feel a kind of "craving"
Another point: being a female in my end fifties, 5 years after cancer treatment milk products help me to gain muscle mass
But the most satisfied I feel after I enjoyed my 3 days lion diet 😊, but for preventing oxalate rushes i still have to interrupt...and it's getting less and less
Thank you for this video 🙏

I really appreciate how everybody asserts that all problems are always down to one thing. It's the timing of the shift, it's not nose to tail, it's cheat meals, it's oxalates, it's electrolytes... I don't check any of these boxes and my health has still been a wreck despite a lion diet for well over a year and a half, and mostly carnivore for plenty before that. There's so much more going on in each one of us, probably unique the damage we've sustained from this wicked environment. Sweeping generalizations are BS and demoralizing when you're forced to trudge through it alone. Of course, naturopath "specialists" and the like are equally demoralizing when they drain your bank account to no avail, assuming you can even attempt to afford it in the first place. Now can any of these bobbleheads take that seriously or what?

Hi Dante, I had started carnivore a little earlier than you. I had cut dairy and sugar out several years earlier followed by all grains for a year before I started carnivore. Then I went meat and green veggies, very low carb for about six weeks and then went full carnivore after that. My reason was my health not my weight and it’s the best thing I have ever done. I will always have an open mind though and if I was to ever feel something was going wrong with my health then I would make a few changes. So far so good.😊

I had spent a few weeks reducing my carbohydrates a bit at a time, while eating meat based diet 3-4 times a day. I found my first significant step was eating carbs in “intermittent fasting style”…. Only allowed carbs 6 hours between breakfast and lunch… then 18 hours no carbs. It was working really well.

Great video. Thank you. I can tell you from my experience, that I wish I had watched Prof Kay. I was coming to carnivore from years of Keto. However, I mistakenly added 100g - 200g of carbs, after seeing how Paul Salidino reacted to them. This spiraled me to gaining some weight again. I than dugg into the research and started following Dr Chaffe, Dr Baker, and Dr Berry. This pointed me to carnivore. And, I jumped right into it. I only ate meat, salt, and drank water. However, I had horrible bowel movements for 4 months. I don't know how I stuck to it, except I felt amazing and my body composition was amazing. I am probably around 10-12% body fat at 54 years old. I am on carnivore over 6 months and I struggle less in the bathroom, but still have bouts. Yesterday, I braised 2lbs of chuck, and an hour after eating, I had diarrhea. Luckily it was only the one bowl movement and didn't carry over. This also happens when I eat too much fatty brisket. So, obviously, after 6 months, my bile cannot handle a super amount of fat. I am also on electolytes and eat a decent amount of redmonds with my meat. I don't have any problems eating 2lbs of 80/20 ground beef, but the fattier cuts do get me.

Thanks, Dante, for sharing your experience, great videos, I have subscribed. Dr Bart Kay really does know what he is talking about. If we are not understanding him it's because we simply do not have the same depth of understanding about human biology. I definitely ran into very serious issues at the 4-month period going strict Lion diet doing everything correctly. I know a bit about Human biology with some higher education in this area but I am a moron compared to Dr Bart Kay. We need to keep in mind that Dr Bart Kay is one of the biggest supporters of the carnivore diet and is an absolute treasure trove for a lot of people who are working to better their health and cannot get local support from doctors when encountering problems while transitioning the body to an appropriate human diet.

Any clarification is greatly appreciated.

    • @ZiataGuitars
      @ZiataGuitars 2 місяці тому +2

Currently battling the adverse effects of transitioning to carnivore overnight. I will not go into great detail as I like my privacy but here goes:
Nine weeks of watery stools and not being able to keep any food in my body for more than a couple hours. The first 5 weeks of this period I was in severe pain which only eased with pain relief (very high inflammatory markers of 1448, normal is 100 or less or around about), then eventually pain stopped as a result of not eating for longer durations. I am now having some minimal success in returning my stools to normal using this fasting method that Dr Kay suggests in this video so hopefully it goes well, still in this process.
Making the decision to move to carnivore or Lion diet is great! however, at a cellular level you still have to condition the body to function on a proper food source. Most people I see are already naturally easing into carnivore eg. Dante mentions this in this video and people like Jordan and Mikhaila Peterson talk about how they eliminated foods over periods of time. My suspicion is that a lot of people are already doing what Dr Bart Key is recommending here unknowingly. This is the best advice to starting carnivore so as to avoid the nightmare I have gone through and still battling with. Put it this way it cannot hurt to ease into it if you can as you definitely do not want to be where I am now. However, I am staying positive and trying the fasting method.
I had little choice when I started because I was reacting very badly to plant based foods, but if I had my time again, I would definitely ease into it to reduce possible issues later. I am very happy that I have managed to remove many serious health problems (15+ health issues) like Crohn’s, 31Kg weight loss, Sleep Apnea, arthritis etc.… Some out there may say, well this is evidence that going carnivore is problematic but it is not the case. I suspect my body is reacting just like a drug addict’s body reacts to drug dependency (I left out my biology knowledge to make this comment shorter). Hopefully, I can resurrect to my initial carnivore glory in the first 4 months, God willing. I wish you well in your journey, God Bless.

I see a lot of naysayers in these comments. All I would say is it makes sense to transition from one diet to another slowly. Just because many people don't and don't see any issues is no reason not to be cautious. There is scientific literature on “Dormant gut microbiota” which could support the idea of bacteria remaining after a diet change but not being currently active - then ‘waking up’ 😱

25:29 what she meant can be really dangerous is if some cases it could happen that the amount of oxolates your body is trying to get rid of at one point of time produces an amount of kidney stones that may result in permanent kidney damage and / or acute kidney failure. That's why the phasing out is also sensible.

Maybe the happy medium for SOME is to first remove the carbohydrate foods you know cause issues AND the ones that typically cause issues. All the while keeping a few carb foods that you are convinced don’t cause issues until THOSE are completely phased out. IF AND ONLY IF you know that a cold turkey transition will present problems. Giving your personal biome a chance to convert to full carnivorous/lion/ketogenic. Any sweetener no matter how “natural” can present issues and from what I’ve read stevia is often synthetic in many of these large commercial soft drink products.
20 years ago I went on keto and walked about 4 miles a day and lost 65 pounds. 3 years later I did it again in an attempt to lose a further 65 pounds. Still doing keto I added a stevia sweetened drink and at the end of that summer I had gained 9 pounds. The only difference was the stevia drinks. The particular drink I chose had synthetic stevia. NOTHING ELSE was different. It’s anecdotal AND IMPERIAL evidence. Suggesting a valid reason to avoid a lot of these keto friendly foods. Jmho

I am an RN and have been carnivore for 3 years and 2 years of Keto before that. I’ve listened to all the people you talk about in the carnivore space regularly over the last 5 years and gleaned a great bounty of knowledge from them all. Bart doesn’t have the breadth of knowledge with the individual applications for different people. He definitely has the pathophysiological processes down and I wouldn’t want to debate him. But when I transitioned to carnivore I did not have near the adjustments that I did initially getting into keto. And also, the carnivore diet isn't just eating beef. Carnivore animals eat any meat they can get. They'll eat chicken and turkey if you give it to them. And the same thing is true for us. If the most you can afford to eat is chicken that's still carnivore. But I do agree with Bart about going into it gradually bcuz that's how it was for me. In the beginning I tried and failed at strict carnivore several times, and was like 90% carnivore eating apples at times. Not every day, but a few times a month.

  • @aceshigh235
    @aceshigh235 3 місяці тому +8

Anyone that thinks after “6 to 9 months” in your biome would have anything left from plants knows little or nothing about biome. I’ll bet the REAL culprit is these carnivores have added something back in like vis drinks or extras and it takes time to become toxic and fasting removes everything so it works. Has nothing to do with the biome balance unless that biome is being supported by a diet addition like sugar in a drink.
Electrolytes could be a part of the issue as he points out.
I think Kay is full of it frankly.
I went cold Turkey and it took about a week for a biome adjustment. 10 months and 90 pounds later it’s fine. Don’t wander, no cheat days. Fasting should be a part of it occasionally, I have fasted up to 8 days NOT for weight but autophagy and full system reset.
By all means cut out plants slowly if you eat a lot of plants or are transitioning off of vegan or vegetarian as you will not have cultures in your gut to grow. But max 7-10 days and take pre/pro biopics to add cultures for a couple days. The meat related cultures will grow and plant / sugar feeders will die off. Done.
If you eat meat normally then a couple days to a week tops and only low sugar plants.
6 weeks is pure BS. Your biome shifts far faster than that, and no they do not start eating your gut lining, that’s ridiculous.
Don’t cheat, you can introduce things that can give you leaky gut and inflammation. Your only cheating you.
And if your really hurting, I’d just go for it because the sooner you get away from the poisons the sooner you will get your life back. You got this.

I had to call Dr.Littells office and request my blood lab results because she said he only calls me if he has any concerns, which he doesn't! I just want to see all that improvement since being carnivore for over a year 😂 she's mailing them.

For future call the lab and have them mail you a copy of their blood results. If you get nowhere with your Doctor's office bypass those useless pieces of you know what and go directly to the lab and get them from the lab.

@Habanero777 thanks for that! I'll ask lab to do that next time for sure. For the record, my doctor is amazing and supportive of carnivore. I had to request results to see myself since he didn't find any cause to call me. Really just want to compare them to my pre carnivore labs 😂

This isn't a common experience for most individuals. It's been over a year, and my digestion has been excellent, with no problems whatsoever. There was no turmoil in my gut, even though I made an immediate switch. However, it might be due to the fact that I seldom consumed vegetables or sugar to begin with. That could be the reason.

100 % agree, no one should make a major diet change overnight. One issue can be oxalate dumping. Next, #2 item, a major change overnight for someone with severe type 1 or type 2 diabetes can and HAS caused death / car accidents from people passing out from low blood sugar. Have seen cases of death. #3 item, Yes, next are all the gut microbiome issues. It can take weeks or years for the encapsulated microbes to present as issues. If someone has a dysfunctional Liver, then their liver will NOT make sufficient glucose. Please go slow and be careful in the beginning. Even going from a vegan or vegetarian diet to carnivore should go slow, make the transition slow. All of these overnight changes and challenges can be harmful. Yes, some people make the change, no issues. But that is not the norm. We are all very similar but broken in different ways.

If it can take years for the microbiome to present an issue (what would that even entail?), then what does it matter if someone makes an immediate change vs taking 3 months to transition?

@@DroppingBearVictim slow transition helps to prevent the issue. Fast transition opens the door to possibly having issues. If someone has been eating a SAD diet for years, what's wrong with a gradual two or three month transition process? Slow transition also helps possible electrolyte issues, helps allow the gallbladder to start ramping up bile production, and helps the pancreas slow down on the insulin,.... So many great benefits by going slow in the transition process.

@@paratrooper73 what comments? Where? And why would someone be required to make a change from a past diet to a new diet immediately unless they have had a specific surgery or drastic medical change. Even after colon surgery or cancer surgery we try not to transition the person one day to the next.

Not for everyone. Some need to jump right in or it may never happen. In the end it is our choice and our consequences.

You would be surprised at the issues that people have just doing time restricted eating for as little as 14 hours w/o even changing their diet. Nausea, hypoglycemia, etc. Issues I’ve never had with such a low period of fasting. Ones I have a hard time even believing are possible. With humans and health anything seems to be possible.

I’m with you bro!! I ate cookies and toast and french vanilla coffee creamer! I only drank water and red wine. I just decided to go carnivore and I am doing great. Now I was taking supplements and a lot. 1 of them was florophage a probiotic that kills bad biotics. Maybe that helped. I think he’s wrong

Hello Dante. Do you have any itching on your body doing Lion Diet/Carnivore? I got some now. 3 months on carnivore diet. Someone say oxolate dumping or Histamine intolerance. I dont know. I start with C vitamin and vitamin supliments now. I do add sea salt or Himalaya salt in my food and water from when I started Carnivore.

If you come from a high oxalate diet like whole food plant based the dumping of oxalates can actually reharm you seriously.

Maybe the fact that you “cheated” every few days helped with your transition to carnivore. I’m having a tough time staying on carnivore because I’m a pig that loves everything, popcorn candy, it would be easier to list what I don’t like. I’ve historically baked a cake for my wife’s birthday and I already got the cake mix. I will eat the cake and ice cream; then jump back into carnivore the next day.
I feel so good on carnivore, no digestive issues whatsoever. Maybe as time goes on I’ll lose my appetite for the stuff that breaks the carnivore way of life. I have more energy, staying power, there’s no reason to keep jumping off of it.
I like your channel, thanks for bringing us with you on your journey.
My favorite drink has been Club Soda for a few years so there’s no transition there.

It's difficult to provide specific solutions to an issue that can have so many variables . . . some people don't even know they are intolerant of something like egg whites until they clean up their diet. One thing about fasting - it empties the digestive tract and lets it rest, which is a good healing modality - but other factors should be considered, as he indicated. I don't think he's recommending that someone just jump into fasting - he observed that after other factors are considered, this would be an approach that might help reset the body toward a more normal function.
